2 Second piece of the broken cage : help them

Diana closed the window with a sigh of disappointment.

' I can't believe I forgot to close this thing '

no wonder the entire place was like it was covered in ice.

the door to the bathroom was open and as she turned she could see that Tia was crouched to the toilet or maybe she was sitting cross legs on the cool bathroom floor.

the dark rings under her eyes were even bigger than Diana remembered. her face paler than usual, her icy blue eyes were half-closed in pain as her lips parted again and with a breath that seemed forced, she vomited for who knows what time.

Diana made a disgusted face and padded over to the door. her red socks sliding on the wooden floor. the cold was settling on her bones, she rubbed her arms as she leaned on the bathroom door.

" just, why did you drink six bottles ?"

her voice was quiet and her breath left those white air you would make from the extreme chill of the air.

she hugged herself. Diana wasn't sure if she had to leave Tia on her own or grab a blanket and put it over her shaking shoulders.

Tia finally leaned away and set her blond head on the inner part of her left elbow.

her hands were busy gripping the edge of the toilet. her knuckles turning white with every breath she exhaled.

a flash of lightning struck. the whole apartment went white.

Tia was panting, one of her hands found Their way into her hair as she took another breath, which left her as soon as it came.

Tia's answer came late.

" to see who would mind my business "

Diana glared. just why did she feel sorry for her anyway?

she turned away from the door and left a sick Tia on the floor. she glanced around their small house.

a brown comfy couch, with hundreds of blankets on top of it, added with pillows of all colors. the floor covered by the only carpet they had that was green with black dots on it.

a dirty window that had a rain pad over it .leaving dirty lines all over it and a curtain which fell over the right side of it.

a small television that was always on, and a small tiny kitchen. two of them together wouldn't fit inside of the small room.

only one bedroom which belonged to Diana, because Tia was more comfortable on the couch as she liked to declare.

puffy was looking at her. his green eyes following her around as she moved to the television to change the channel.

puffy was Tia's cat. but was also Diana's cat. because he liked to claw her thighs when she was sitting on the couch.

he was orange and fatter than any pig you could've seen in your entire life.

Diana sat on the couch and as expected puffy went to her lab and started his clawing.

the big pant she wore made it hard for him to do it but it didn't mean he would stop. not until she was scratching the back of his ears.

she put her hand on his soft ears and forced her limb to move around his ear.

Diana had her hair in a bun. some strand fell from the back of her head but it was cold so she didn't put them back in the bun.

the sound of the small electronic box was low, so she could still hear Tia's harsh grunts.

Diana forced her eyes to not roll as she pulled the blanket over her lap and sat cross legs on the single and lonely couch of the house.

nothing was interesting on the television, it was seven in the morning so every channel had news on it.

she just settled for one and focused on the program when puffy was busy licking her hand.

there was a boy. skinner than any she had seen on the streets.

two bulky men were holding his arms with enough roughness to make Diana wince.

they were wearing masks that covered Their faces, with guns bigger than any she has seen so far in her life. their jackets were black and sticky from too much sweat.

the boy's brown frightened eyes were wide as he was eyeing all of the people around him.

that was when it hit her.

he was a Gifted.

the cuts and bruises that were all over his body were like a second skin to him. the remaining Gifteds if they weren't useful and the queen didn't want, were killed but if they were clever and quick, they fled from the sights and we're either starved from hunger or were killed by the angry drunks or street fighters.

then there was an interviewer who was dressed more like a stripper than her actual job her hair fell over her back, her lips red from all the make up she had.

she was asking questions to someone who was the complete opposite of her.

the woman was dressed in all black. boots were to her knees, her short black hair had some purple strand to them, her mask was off and Diana could see the scar that was running from her bottom lip up till over her left grey eye. she was blind in one eye but the gun she had dropped over her shoulder and the knife she was holding in her hand just made her appear even scarier. her lips were thinner than thread. she was Asian.

a black guy came and shove the boy to the wall, the poor kid just went along with it.

his already bleeding head hit the wall hard enough to make him dizzy.

the black man pulled his hands behind his back and twisted them, making the boy give out a cry of pain. Diana quickly covered her ears. her eyes were wide.

his cries were just like Adrian's.

his hands were cuffed and he was roughly pulled into the black car.

Diana felt her heart drop.

no one knew what happened to the Gifteds who was caught by the ' Black Hunters '.

the queen upon going to her throne in New York collected a group of people from all over the world. , so that they could capture and kill or lock up the Gifteds.

to the queen, Gifteds are monsters. they do not have feelings and were meant to be killed.

she has mercy and doesn't kill the useful ones.

She changed the channel....turned off the television and shook her head to clear her thoughts.

puffy was staring up at her twisted face.

Diana pulled the covers to her chin and closed her eyes.

the sound of rain was stronger now.

the couch dipped and made a groaning sound.

it was broken after all.

a hand was pressed on her hand and pulled on her bun.

Diana looked up from her hands.

Tias was looking at her with those icy knowing eyes. the never going frown on her face was telling her too much pain. a too heavy burden.

then, Tia smiled. her eyes shone like bright stars in the dark sky, her teeth were winking at her.

" don't forget to smile D "

Tia pulled on her cheeks and made her lips pull back.

Diana tried to get away from her friend but it was useless. you couldn't fight Tia off.

then suddenly as if a bolt had struck her Tia stood up. she had her usual hungry expression.

" hey, D ... I'm hungry. "

Diana narrowed her eyes.

" go make something then "

Tia's shoulders fell, she gave her, her best puppy dog eyes. by so far, puffy was not impressed.

" you make something, pretty please?"

Diana arched an eyebrow . " um question, didn't you just threw up? aren't you supposed to be sick now? "

" fist of all sweetie that was two questions and yes I should but I'm not, now GO AND MAKE SOMETHING !"

Diana got up and moved towards the kitchen.

Tia cried with joy as she hugged the living hell out of her.

funny how Tia looked like a person who was so thin, but she could lift a whole couch with those noodle arms.

Diana padded over to the kitchen as Tia went over to the window to glance at the streets.

the only light that was on was from the television witch Tia had pulled back on.

Diana stood in front of the fridge and sighed, she should think about cleaning this place. the front of it was covered with stickers of what they should do in the week.

some photos and some goals, she wanted to reach ... which she didn't.

" HEY! JOHN, WHATS UP MAN ?!"

Diana winced.

" Tia . " she hissed.

Tia had her head out of the window in the rain and was shouting something meaningless to someone named John.

Diana shook her head. just how did the queen come to the solution that the Gifteds were monsters was a mystery to her.

Tia was the type of person who cried over the death of roaches and Adrian... She sighed.

He will be alright.

She wouldn't let him suffer like that. all alone in that dark, lonely hollow.

she yanked open the door to the fridge and grabbed some eggs and cheese.

the best she could do was to cook oatmeal and keep calm while doing it.

another lighting struck.

Tia yelped and jumped back in.

the rain kept falling.

______________________________________________

Tia's body was covered in marks. she was wearing only her black sports bra and her thigh-length shorts.

she grabbed a knife and pulled her jacket over her shoulders.

" for goodness Tia, we're just going to market. what's the knife for? "

Tia glanced back at Diana who was on her green jacket and blue jeans.

" for protection? "

she gave her best friend a sheepish smile.

Diana just sighed and rolled her eyes.

" Get in your boots we're going. also, it's still raining, I'd suggest you to were some jeans but...."

Diana was eyeing her from the tip of her blond hair to her wiggling toes witch were in Their green Patrick socks.

Diana turned away and grabbed the key and the umbrella. Tia just shrugged as she always did whenever Diana decided that Tia belonged to a circus rather than an actual city.

Tia put her knife in the back of her shorts and pulled on her boots. they went up to her scared knees.

together, they went down the stairs. Tia was almost five inches taller than Diana.

the brown-haired girl, had her lovely, curly hair in a bun she had put, since morning.

they got out of the apartment and Diana opened the umbrella. Tia took a hold of the rain holder and then took Diana's small arm and started to move faster towards the market that was at the end of the street they lived in.

trees with red leaves dressed the wet street. a huge vessel with blood floating from it was in the middle of the street, breaking the world apart and creating a tunnel full of leaking liquid.

Tia pulled Diana closer to her. it had become a nervous gesture to her over the years.

by the time they both reached the market, Diana was cursing at the weather and how much did Tia need to eat, because every three days she had to come to get food.

Tia just smirked and let Diana walk in first. closed the umbrella and went inside.

long columns, heavy with the ingredients, and much more stuff were the only decoration that the small market had.

slowly she pulled her hood over her head and moved towards Diana who was busy getting bread.

Tia glanced around at the people. there were some children, tugging at their mother's sleeves to buy this and that for them.

but out of all of them, at the end of the column, was a child, who looked like 8 or 7, standing near her mother, no tugging or whining. grabbing the basket and putting the thing her mother told her to put there.

black feather-like hair braided over her back, eyes wide and blue, her skin white, not pale, white

she had those soft eyes that reminded her of the others who had that same soft eyes. the loving smile that only one person could offer. the kid's name left her lips before she could stop herself.

" ..sandy.."

no more than a whisper ....but she turned.
