Chapter Two

Uggh... Jessica grunts as she was flung backwards breaking the lotus posture she had been setting in and ramming the back of her head into the dense mass of pillows piled behind her. She sighed and thought about the quote from her spell book 'Mastering astral projection is a lengthy process, it can be easily disrupted when the caster's emotions run high.' The funny thing is this was a skill her family is supposed to specialise in, it's sad how much of a failure she felt right now. Blinking her eyes fast to try to clear her vision of the tears, she pressed hard on her red willow cheeks and tried to massages her temples to ease her raging headache. Pain is the consequence of breaking a spell early and this is a light punishment compared to some she has read about, which include death. Remembering a trick to focus easier she trains her vision on a single point on the ceiling next to a wooden stabilising support beam she has always thought looked like a strange fork she takes a breath in slowly regaining her calm and focus. Willing her thoughts on the 'Bridge of Lafay' comment the sleazy Jordon Parks was talking about so casually before her spell failed earlier. She couldn't help take a deep breath in the 'Bridge of Lafay' is an old story dating back to before mankind's recorded history. More to the point the story is a love story gone wrong, about mythical creatures named 'The Dragon King' and the 'Phoenix Queen Morgan Lafay' both were considered Gods of some kind. To try and make a long story short the Queen went crazy for some reason, that isn't fully explained in the story and wanted to destroy the world. The Dragon King being the kind and benevolent type uses his own body to breaks up the world and separates everyone from her evil rule. Some of this story is true Witch society has proven there are actually seven bridges separating this world. We unfortunately only have access to a lower realm filled with non-magic types and little to no mana the rest are blocked by arrays we have yet to figure out. Of the six other bridges, only one is close enough to be considered safe to get close enough to view by the masses of witches. To face facts although this realm has its advantages danger is its mistress, not just zombies but ferocious beasts and man-eating plants have almost as much potential to take a person's life. We don't really know what is on the other side of these bridges but the common theory is land richer in mana of resources that can improve a person's constitution the effect making a non-magic person to magic or someone who has already great magic ability into a genius. Honestly, it's all only theories and could be an actual disaster for our people but what has stopped us so far is one of our oldest laws. So Jordon casually talking about breaking the bridge although probably shouldn't have crashed the spell it only takes a little emotion to shatter my control. I don't want to admit this but this is the only spell that is giving me consistent issue.
