7 Chapter 7

Rura was very nervous. She partially knew what to expect from school, but she didn't know what they did in school all day. Luckily she had the energizer bunny sitting next to her to keep her company, though.

Mr. Robinson dejectedly took attendance soon after he arrived in the classroom. Then he started his first lesson. Rura was super confused during her first lesson. He was reviewing something called math. Rura didn't know what math was, so she simply just sat there and listened as hard as she could, trying to understand what the heck was going on.

English, social studies, and science were all the same. She was super confused. Weird phrases and odd symbols were written on the board. Rura, at one point, thought that maybe the teacher was just writing random stuff. Apparently, she was wrong. Most of the kids besides a red-headed boy and a few blonde girls were all nodding their heads at the stuff written on the chalkboard like they were agreeing to what was there.

It's not far of to say that these lessons were all major headaches to Rura. She couldn't do much to try to understand what was going on. She eventually gave up. 'I'll ask Anna tonight,' Thought Rura.

This all changed when the last class of the day was announced at the end of the science. Most of the kids cheered in excitement when they heard the words P.E. come out of the teacher's mouth. Rura was even more confused, but she just got up and followed the tide of little children down to the field outside the school to discover soon that they were playing kickball.

Teams were quickly created, and Rura lined up behind home base. A few kids were in front of her, and most of them kicked as hard as they could out toward the field. Very few balls made it past the pitcher's mound, and most balls rolled on the ground. But one kid, a blondie, was pretty handsome for his age, launched the ball straight into the outfield. Cheers resounded as the ball soared like a dragon through the sky and landed in the short grass.

Then it was Rura's turn. She nervously walked up towards the plate as she stared at the person pitching the ball. She had seen a few examples of what to do, and she thought it was pretty simple. She just has to kick the ball as hard as she could.

"Swishhhhhh" The ball rolled on the ground as the pitcher launched it at Rura. Rura changed her position and stared daggers at the incoming ball. She slightly crouched and did a short run-up.

"BANGGG" Rura slammed the ball as hard as she could. If the last ball was to be compared to a dragon, this ball would be one hundred dragons. The red ball soared through the sky straight past the outfield and over the fence.

All the kids behind Rura cheered and yelled in surprise and victory! The kids on the bases ran their hearts out and eventually all made it back home, scoring a total of 3 points for their team. The children on the field stared at the faraway ball over the fence in astonishment.

A 7-year-old girl just kicked a homerun...

Mr. Robinson stared wide-eyed at Rura, who looked around, surprised at her accomplishment. He couldn't believe that so much power was packed into that little girl's body.

That was only the start. Kids started giving up their spots for Rura to kick again. So she did, and another ball flew over the fence. Mr. Robinson had to step in once she launched her 5th ball out of the school's property. That officially was the end of Rura's first P.E. class.

Sufficeth to say. That was her favorite class.

Her school day ended with a bright smile on her face. As she made her way out towards the school's front, Rura saw Anna waiting for her with a worried expression, but once she saw Rura's smile, Anna's face relaxed, responding with another smile.

"How was your first day?" Anna asked as she grabbed Rura's hand lightly and started walking down the sidewalk.

Rura frowned, then smiled again after thinking of the confusing day she just went through. "What's math?" Rura asked as she eventually responded.

Anna laughed at her question, "Don't we all want to know, kiddo." Anna let out a bright smile as she continued, "I'll show you once we get back."

Rura nodded her head up and down with a brighter smile on her face. She was happy that everyone cheered for her after kicking that red ball over the fence. She honestly didn't understand why it was so important, but apparently, she did a good job today! She made a friend and had fun.

As the duo walked down the street towards their residence, a black car was parked on a nearby street. Two men were sitting in the passenger and driver seat of the vehicle. One was a short, muscular man with a small afro, and the other was a tall, lanky man with a long mullet.

The man with the mullet looked out the window as he lazily sipped his straw. He choked as soon as his eyes landed on Rura and Anna. After coughing for a few seconds, he wacked the man with the afro, "Jerold! Ain't that the girl we actioned of last month?"

The afro man, who apparently is named Jerold, looked at where his buddy was pointing and stared with wide eyes as he saw the little girl walking down the street holding hands with another young girl. "What the hell?" He rubbed his eyes as he continued, "Did she escape?"

The mullet man continued to stare as he added, "If she did, we could probably sell her again for another mill."

Jerold started drooling at the thought of making a million dollars. He smiled as he picked up his phone and dialed his boss.

The door on apartment number 7 slowly opened as two girls, one around 20 and another around 7, walked into the room.

"Kiddo, I'll help you with your questions once I finish making some dinner!" Anna said as she took off her coat and hung it on a nearby coat rack. Rura nodded and did the same with her red buttoned oversized hooded jacket, carefully hanging it next to Anna's jacket.

The duo put away their stuff and continued with their day. Anna made some food for herself and Rura, and they ate and laughed as she helped Rura with math. They first started with figuring out what numbers were.

Anna was pretty surprised when she saw that Rura didn't know how to match numbers with their symbols. It was odd for a girl her age not to be able to do that. Once Rura figured out how to write until 10, she quickly got the gist of writing numbers.

Once Rura and Anna finished their study session, it was already getting dark out, and the duo quickly got ready for bed and went to sleep to start tomorrow bright and early.

The Sun shone through the large window in the living room, and a slight glare made its way into Rura's eyes. She squinted and slowly got up from her futon, groggily getting out of bed to get ready for her 2nd day of school. Anna was already in the kitchen with a smile on her face as she saw little Rura rubbing her big eyes and walking out of the bathroom with her school uniform on.

"Ready for school?" Anna asked as she flipped an omelet and placed it on a plate.

Rura nodded her head. "Yes!" and did a slight yawn after she answered.

Anna giggled at the little girl's behavior, slid the plate with the omelet towards Rura, and signaled her to eat. Rura finished her food a few moments later, and the duo walked their way towards Wellstone Intermediate school.

Anna asked Rura about school as they walked on the busy sidewalks of New York. Rura shyly answered as best as she could. She told Anna about her friend and the kickball game. Anna laughed and congratulated her on winning without putting too much thought into the absurd idea of kicking a home run.

The duo finally made their way towards the school entrance, and Anna waved Rura goodbye as she entered the Intermediate school and walked towards classroom number 9 to start her second day of school.

That morning a black car could be seen waiting in front of the school building. A familiar afro and mullet could be seen sitting in the two front seats of the vehicle. A smile could be seen on both of their faces as one of them held a pair of binoculars, continuously watching the children entering the school.

They were there for the little wolf-eared girl Rura.
