6 Chapter 6

Just like that, Rura and Anna's life started. Anna came and went from school, she occasionally brought Jonathan over, and they played together. The duo also went together to the mall to pick out some clothes for Rura, as it would be weird if she continued to live in the dress that she was wearing. Finally, one day, Anna asked a question she always had on her mind.

"Rura, why are you wearing those ears?" Anna has always wanted to ask this, but she didn't know how. Eventually, she decided to ask her straight out, rather than wait longer and finally find some lame excuse.

Rura turned her head in confusion at this question "What do you mean?" She asked

"Well, those ears on your head, why don't you ever take them off?" She said in a somewhat baffled tone.

Rura shook her head. "I can't take them off because they are a part of me."

Anna looked hard at Rura and sighed inwardly. 'They probably are a comfort item. I'll just not mention it.'

Anna slightly shook her head as she got up, "Never mind that you want something to eat?"

Rura nodded her head up and down extremely quickly. A drop of drool found its way out of her petite mouth. "I'll make you eggs then." She smiled as she went towards the kitchen to start breakfast.

Anna got to work and started making scrambled eggs for Rura and herself until she heard something shocking come on the news.

"BREAKING NEWS, The Atlantic ocean has stopped moving, all water on the eastern coast of America and some Coastal areas in Europe are witnessing a calm storm. All water has essentially calmed down, and waves have yet to be seen in the coastal areas. Some speculate that this is 'The Calm Before The Storm!' What do you think this may be? Then an earthquake shook the city. It wasn't a strong earthquake, just a few vibrations, but everyone felt it. Dust fell from the skyscrapers, and pedestrians stopped walking to look around. Then wind. Everywhere, Everyone felt a strong blowing force strike them. Most people fell, others stumbled. After a few minutes, the wind died down, and the earthquake stopped. The world returned to its regular routine, just like nothing happened.

Though that's not the case for most people, a change came along with the winds. Some people's eye colors changed, and other's hair darkened or softened.

Slight changes occurred to most people, but they were too subtle and unnoticeable from a glance. Nobody knew why or what had previously happened, but nobody really cared enough to question it. It was a small earthquake, so what? I didn't die, so I'll just go back to living my life.

Anna hurriedly ran over towards Rura to check if she was okay after that strange fiasco. "Are you okay?" Anna shouted anxiously as she saw the little gray-haired Rura tightly holding a pillow on the floor.

Rura slowly opened her eyes, realizing the disaster was over. "I think I'm okay." She scrambled as she got up and sat on the floor.

Anna nodded her head absentmindedly as she checked Rura for scrapes or bruises. "Good, I was about to tell you something, but that darn earthquake got in the way," Anna exclaimed as she sat down next to Rura. "I found a school for you."

Rura perked up at that. She barely knew what a school was. She knew little to nothing about what they do at schools and was kind of excited. "Really?" she asked with big eyes.

Anna nodded her head and lightly laughed at herself. "It's not anything fancy, but it's a start. You will be placed in 2nd grade."

Rura slowly nodded. Half the things that were being said to her went in one ear and out the other. She was previously told what a school was, but she had no idea what the heck it was after Anna's explanation. It's some sort of system of learning.

"When do I go to 2nd grade?" Rura asked as she slightly tilted her head

"I'm going to take you tomorrow morning with Jonathan! He wanted to see you off on your first day!" Said Anna as she rubbed Rura's head and got back up to discover soon her eggs got burnt. They had cereal that day.

The next day, Anna and Rura woke up early that morning. Anna brought in the school uniform that she received last week and solemnly gave it to the bright Rura. Jonathan came in through the door as Rura got ready and waited in the main room for the cutie to start her day at school.

The trio left for Wellstone Schools as the sun slowly rose from the sky. Rura unconsciously shed a few tears as she saw the sun rising from the horizon. She never told Anna about her parents. She didn't want to say something wrong and get sold again. She wanted to stay with her.

Eventually, the group found their way towards a large bricked school on the edge of the city. Children of all ages could be seen walking towards the school carrying bags with books in their arms. Anna and Jonathan said a long goodbye to the little Rura and made sure she had everything set. They made sure she knew which room to go to, where her lunch is, and precisely how to repel dirty guys. Jonathan said, you kick them in the balls and run.

They had a quick laugh, and Rura was sent towards the school where she would have her first day ever.

"Hello! My name is Jodie! I think your ears are adorable!" said a little girl who skipped up behind Rura. She had blonde hair down to her shoulders with dimples in her cheeks. Jodie raised her hand and pointed it towards Rura for a handshake. Rura looked back towards the girl and didn't know what to say. She had never talked to a girl her age ever since she left her home, and all of them here, for some reason, lack ears on top of their heads.

"Hi-elo, my nam-es... Rura." Rura managed to get out as she stiffly raised her hand for the handshake. Jodie giggled at Rura's behavior. "What class are you going to, Rura?"

Rura nervously took out a piece of paper and looked at the weird symbol that was on it. After a long while of question and answer with Anna, Rura finally figured out what the symbol means. "I thin-k im in class 9." Rura shyly responded with her head slightly down.

Jodie's smile got even wider at Rura's words, and she quickly grabbed Rura's right hand and started running towards the school. "That's my class too!" Jodie exclaimed in excitement as the duo zoomed towards classroom 9 in the Wellstone Intermediate School.

"Bang!" The door to classroom 9 flew open as Jodie, and a poor little girl flew through the new opening. "Here we are!" Jodie exclaimed happily as she looked back towards Rura who's cute appearance before turned into a complete mess. Her hair was everywhere, and her clothes were slightly out of place. "Oopsie daisy, let me help with that." Jodie awkwardly laughed as she helped Rura tidy up and lead her farther into the classroom.

There was an equal amount of boys and girls in the classroom. Groups were formed in every corner, though the occasional kid could be seen sitting at their desk reading a book or on their phone.

Jodie sat down at a desk near the front of the room and patted the desk next to her, signaling Rura to sit there. Rura flinched at that motion. She was kind of scared of Jodie. She didn't seem to have an end to that energy that she contains.

Rura gulped nervously, walked towards the empty seat, and sat down, placing her bag down, waiting for the class to start.

"Ring Ring Ring Ring" A bell went off, and a few kids ran into the classroom. At the end of the batch of late kids, a mediocre-looking middle-aged man with blonde hair and a slim body walked through the door and shut it, signaling the start of the class.

"Welcome to the first day of school, everyone! You can call me Mr. Robinson, and I will be your teacher for this year!" Mr. Robinson walked towards the front of the room and slowly wrote his name on the chalkboard. After he was done, he looked back at the room and sat down in his chair.

He softly sighed as he looked at a sheet on the desk. He was going to be teaching a total of 24 hooligans this year. "Okay then, let's do the attendance and get started."
