Zero Resistance

The winds blew on his body stronger as he jogged, so Milan slowed down even if he didn’t want to. He hugged his body and continued to walk along the downpour. The danger seemed to have passed since his body was paying attention to minor details again.

It’s just that when Milan gazed at the distant side of the bridge, he saw a person struggling to get on the railing. Since she stood next to one of the tresses, she managed to get on it despite the slippery rainwater. She looked down at the turbid waters underneath. It was a long way down, and even if she survived the fall, the water would surely drown her.

“What is she doing?” Milan hissed as he sucked in air through his teeth. He dropped his bag on the ground and quietly walked toward the woman. “Dammit, I shouldn’t have looked around. Now I can’t look away. Don’t you fucking kill yourself in front of me.”

The closer he got, the more details he saw. The woman had long hair that looked like the night descending onto the snowy mountains in the Alps. Her fair skin and bountiful bosom even resembled the mountains he was thinking about. However, she glared at the waters underneath the bridge. This woman was a jumper, and it was Milan’s misfortune to run into her tonight.

Her blue nightdress had already hugged her body, not hiding the desirable shape she had. It was even evident that she only wore a thin garment underneath. However, Milan couldn’t care less about what she was aside from being a bother.

“Hey! Just jump on another day! Get down from there!” He yelled at the woman as he managed to stand meters away from her. The rain even made his voice louder.

“What?” The woman gasped and turned to find the person yelling at her. She saw Milan’s figure under the rain. His black jacket and dark-blue jeans gave him a generic silhouette of a slender young man, but his crystal blue eyes made his face stand out from the darkness. He was also too beautiful to even appear male in her eyes.

“I said get down from there!” Milan yelled again.

The woman would react to his words, but her foot slipped the moment she leaned her weight on it. In an instant, she felt time slow down as she fell from the bridge.

Milan threw his bag to the side and went to jump to save her. He grabbed onto her waist and hooked his body from the railing using his legs. The woman screamed, but she only felt how she dangled from the height. Her hairpin dropped into the water, but her body was still suspended.

“Wrap your legs around me and tuck your arms in, idiot,” Milan growled as he tried his best to keep them from slipping.

When she did what was asked, he slowly moved a leg to hook a foot and get a better hold for both of them. With a deep breath, he shot up to curl and sit on the railing. The momentum was enough for him to get her over the railing… and be thrown to the ground.

It was inevitable for them to slip from the railing with that kind of force and surface.

The woman groaned twice—once for hitting the ground and another for having Milan fall on top of her. She then writhed on the muddy ground before looking at the man who pulled his body up to glare at her face. Of course, she also took the chance to glare back at him. If he didn’t know, she was more hurt by what he did than by actually falling down.

“How dare you throw me to the ground!” She barked and used a hand to push his face away. “Maniac! Pervert! Get off me!”

“If I didn’t see you, you would have been dead. Damn, I should’ve kept my head down!” Milan held onto her arm to get her hand off his face, but she quickly used a leg to kick at him.

The woman roared as she kicked him with all her remaining energy. She then crawled away as Milan curled up and fell to a side. However, with the rough cement ground of the bridge, she wounded herself just by leaning on her elbows to pull away.

Milan didn’t even resist his fate anymore. It was best to just lie down there and have the woman run away. He didn’t want to hurt anyone, and he was already too tired. Maybe, someone would pick him up if they found him there in the morning.

Fierce lights flashed at the two, and Milan could tell from the heat that those were high beams of a car. A car was headed to their spot? He should have walked ahead and hitched a ride instead.

“Anne! Are you okay?” The man who got out of the car yelled as he found the woman crying to herself as she weakly walked away from Milan. He grabbed the shoulders of the woman and then hugged her tightly. His eyes, however, glared at the man on the ground.

“Someone actually kidnapped her.” Another young man spoke and walked to Milan. He was going to kick the offender, but his hostile voice was Milan’s cue to lift his head.

The second man stared deep into those crystal blue eyes, his own dark eyes squinting soon enough. Then he gasped. “Shit, it’s Milan! Hey, what’s going on?”

Milan grew shocked as well. The man recognized him despite the time he spent outside the island. No matter, at least the second man leaned down to help him up from the muddy ground. He then glared at the woman who was now being wrapped in the first man’s jacket.

“That woman wanted to jump so I took her down. She then attacked me. Should I have let her die instead? Ridiculous.” Milan turned to the side to find his bag.

“There’s no way Anne would…” The second man, however, turned to find her hiding her face from him. He just followed Milan. “Hey, why are you out here in this weather? I heard from Corey that you’re coming home, but… aren’t you a little too impatient? You could have died walking out here like this!”

Milan then turned to the person when he mentioned a name Milan recognized. The second man then pointed at his face and said, “Corbin. It’s me, buddy. How could you forget my face? Psh, it doesn’t matter. We’ll get you home since we already found Anne.”

Milan only blinked and followed Corbin without a sound. He was now found by one of his childhood friends so he should be able to find his sister faster, no?

However, at this very moment, Milan felt how his body alerted him again. When he turned behind them, a small red glint appeared in the darkness. Since Corbin called him to ride the car, Milan just opted to hurry inside. Hopefully, it wouldn’t break down like the one earlier.
