7 Chapter 7

"Josie, Tammy, Kate fall in", Maddy said. It was Friday after school. Time for tryouts. We had a little practice before. Being the first week of the school year, we didn't really do any heavy routine, just basic warmups. Anyway, the four of us, that's the three Maddy called plus Maddy herself are gonna be on the panel for tryouts. "The rest of you can leave. Practice is over", Maddy instructed. "Okay now that practice is over, tryouts start in 30 minutes, we have to go change into our uniforms".

Currently we were all in work out clothes but we have to look official for tryouts. We went to the locker room to change. Today was our tryout Friday. Our school, Lakeview high, had only two sports teams, football and basketball and our school was the home of the foxes. We cheerleaders got the gym for our tryouts, the football players got the field and the basketball players got the basketball court.

We changed into our cute cheer uniforms. A sleeveless, orange and white mini dress that stopped mid thigh. It came with sewn in tights and matching bows for our ponytails. We wore matching white sneakers and orange pompoms. When we were done getting dressed, we walked out.

"Alright, are you girls ready?" Our cheer instructor, Miss Harper, asked. She's really nice and laid back and we all love her. She was also sitting in on the panel which made us five. "Yes Miss H", Maddy replied. "Okay Madds, let me see who you chose to be on the team". We all lined up so she could look us over one after the other.

"Miss Griffo", she nodded when she got to Tammy.

"Miss Delgado", she did same when she got to Kate.

"Miss Bolton", she said with a smile when she got to me.

"Excellent choice Miss Diamond", she said to Maddy. We sat at the table while Maddy went to meet the girls lined up outside. A couple of minutes later, she came back in and sat. We tried out a bunch of girls, some with potential and some who should never in their lives try cheerleading again.

When we were done, we, the panel, made a list of all those with potential. Turns out they were a little bit more than we needed. "What do we do?" I asked. Tammy and Kate looked at Maddy. I was looking at Miss Harper. Maddy turned to look at Miss Harper too. "We'll hold second try outs. You'll go paste this list outside and ask everyone who's name is on the list to wait for a second tryout", Miss Harper said. Maddy smiled excitedly. "Josie you heard her, go do it", she said snapping her fingers. My eyes widened. "What? Me?" "Oh you'll be fine", Tammy said.

I turned to Miss Harper for help silently pleading with her with my eyes. She shrugged. I huffed. "Fine then". I stood up, took the list and went outside. "Alright girls, you all did well but sadly we can't choose everyone. Congratulations to those whose names are on the list and better luck next time to those who aren't". I pasted the list. "If your name is on the list, get ready in 10 for your call backs". Then I took my leave. I felt the girls push each other to get to the list and I heard a bunch of yeahs and nos.

I sat down at the table. "It wasn't that bad now was it?" Kate asked. I glared at her. "They'll be ready in 10", I told Miss Harper. "Excellent", she replied. Kate and Maddy excused themselves to use the bathroom while I was scrolling through my phone. Ten minutes late we started the second tryouts.

Maddy stood up to give a speech. "Congratulations to all of you here now. You're here because each of you have the potential to be an amazing cheerleader. But unfortunately we can't take all of you. So this is where you'll have to give it your best if you really wanna be on the squad. Good luck". She finished by raising her pompoms and one leg high at the same time. Then she sat. "You may begin", Miss Harper said.

In the end, we chose the best girls and wished the rest better luck next time. Miss Harper left us after that. Maddy congratulated each girl with their very own pompom. She asked them to wait to get measured for their uniforms while I left. I decided I'd go to the football field to check on Jordan then I realized I was still in my uniform and went to change into my outfit of this morning. I was dressed in jean shorts, a brown spaghetti strap top tucked in and a brown jacket that stopped at the hem of my shorts. I paired it with brown low heeled sandals and a blue necklace. I took my hair which had been straightened, out of it's ponytail and I walked to the field.

When I got there it looked like they were already wrapping up they're tryouts. I saw Jordan walking towards the bleachers. I called out to him. He turned to look at me and smiled. He grabbed his backpack and came jogging towards me. He was about to hug me but I stopped him. "Shower first", I said to him. He rolled his eyes at me and I shrugged. "Did you get in?" I asked hopefully. "Of course I got in", he said with a smug expression.

"Yey!! You know I would hug you but you're sweaty and all". He scoffed at that. "Let's go find the others and then we can take a shower". We entered the basketball court. They weren't exactly done yet so we went to wait for them on the bleachers. I was scrolling through my phone, passing time when I felt the impulse to look up. I did and I saw him and our eyes met. I smiled shyly and gave a small wave. He smiled and waved back then abruptly looked away.

How could I not have thought of the possibility of him being here. Of course he'd be here he's a star basketball player. Jordan apparently saw our exchange. "What was that?"he asked. "What was what?" I asked evasively. "Don't play dumb with me Josie, you know what I was talking about". "What are you talking about?". He scowled, "Fine then. I'll just wait till the twins are done with tryouts and we can badger you together". I felt the blood drain from my face and I gulped. Well I guess that was better. At least I didn't have to repeat the story twice.

About half an hour later, tryouts were over and we saw the twins talking to some guys on the team. "You guys were awesome. It's great to have you on the team". They did the guy handshake thing. "Hey", one of the guys greeted me. I smiled back at them as they left. "So I guess you guys made the team", Jordan said smirking at the twins.

"What can we say? We're amazing", the twins said in unison. Jordan and I looked at them weirdly. Sometimes, their inner twin unlocks and they do weird shit like this, saying the same thing at the same time. They high fived and they told me to wait by the car while they went to take showers. I did as I was told since the court was already empty anyway.

I unlocked my phone to continue reading the novel I'd been reading all day. I was scrolling through my phone while walking. It didn't cross my mind that other people might be trying to walk. I wasn't looking where I was going and then suddenly I hit something hard. I was about to fall down when I felt hands steady me. I looked up and guess who I hit. It was him, the guy I've been crushing on, the guy I was staring at during practice. Tony Stryder.

I mentally face palmed. Just my luck to bump into the cutest boy at school. I was lost staring at him. His dark hair looked tussled and a little bit wet. I had to clench my hand into a fist to repress the urge to run my fingers through it. He smelled freshly showered which explained his wet hair. His dark brown eyes held a bit of amusement in them. I wonder what was so funny.

Then it hit me. I was still staring at him. I instantly moved out of his hold even though I missed the feel of his hands. I had to crane my neck to look at him since his height of 6"3 towered over mine. He cleared his throat and my vocal cords opened at that time. "I'm so sorry. I should have been watching where I was going".

"You should have", he agreed with a smirk. He shoved his hands into his pockets. He looked so perfect at that moment. I wanted to say something, anything but all I did was open and close my mouth. The smile dropped from his face almost like he remembered something. "I'll see you around Josie", he said as he turned and left. I felt my heart drop. He probably thinks I'm some kinda weirdo now. On the bright side I got to be in his arms for a few minutes. I sighed then turned to walk away too, more carefully this time. I wouldn't wanna bump into any more hotties.

I went to the car, unlocked it and hopped in at the driver's seat. I turned on the radio to pass the time. I was listening to songs on the radio when I heard the doors open and the guys hop in. Jake sat beside me on shotgun, Jordan and Justin at the back. "So", Jake started, "Jordan tells us you were making googly eyes with a guy on the team". I face palmed. "Thanks a lot Jordan", I said the sarcasm oozing outta my voice.

"Anytime", he smirked. I narrowed my eyes at him. "So who is it?" Justin chimed in. "Ugh", I groaned. "Let's get to Sweeties ice cream parlor. I'll tell you guys there. Also ice cream is on you guys". "Sure". "Okay". "Yes". I drove off as soon as they replied.
