2 Chap. 1 The Cells

( Rain POV )

I jerk awake to the sound of a scream. Another day in this hell hole. I sigh and curl up into a ball and lay my tail over my nose, trying to go back to sleep. I may be blind but I wasn't deaf so I heard and knew everything that happened down here in the cells. The only difference between me and most of the other wolves here, other then me not seeing, is that I'm left alone more now then I use to be. Now, except for the accessional torture session here and there, the most I see of anyone is when they toss food into my cell every three days.

I still remember when I first came here. They would beat me, torture me, and pass me around like some play thing. It went on for years until I shifted into my wolf one night and killed the man that tried to touch me. Now they just torture me with whips and chains. They use to poison me too but now, after so much of it, I am immune to them all.  It was also a little harder for them to torture me when I first shifted because I didn't know how to change back, nor did I want to. Once they got the muzzle on me though it was back to the torture and, don't get me wrong, it still hurt just not as much as it use to. I shake my head to clear my thoughts and hear screaming from a different cell. The females here always scream. There are a few that don't but once that happens they usually disappear.

The torture went on as usual for a few more years. Until one day it changed. A new sent had entered the cells, a clean sent, smelling of peppermint and sugar. It was so different from the normal, nasty, sents the cells carry. As the sent grew close I smelled a small hint of food but also something else, something alive. I stiffened up when I smelled the sent coming closer to my cell. I sit as still as I can with my head down as the sent gets closer until it was in front of my cell. I never have liked new things because they can be unpredictable.

"Hello there Mr wolf." A male voice says. 'Just great,' I think to myself, 'a new man to go with a new sent.' He continues to talk. "Everyone told me to leave you alone cause you are mean but you don't seem mean to me. Ever since I got here I've seen you here and there always acting like a beaten dog. Excuse the expression." I flick an ear at him, saying I was listening. "Anyway, a few days ago while I was out I found a wolf pup all alone and after talking to the boss he finally agreed to let you take care of her." He said more excitedly at the end.

I jerk my head up and face in the direction his voice had come from. I sniff the air again and this time catch the sent of the wolf pup he mentioned. I hear him open my cell and then let out a small, but gentle growl as the small creature crashes into my side. I sit up and listen to the pup's tiny paw steps. I turn and growl at the man. 'Go away!' I tell him. He just chuckles and closes the door of the cell and leaves me alone with the pup who I decided to name Rōzu because she smelled of roses and was a small light in a place of darkness.

After that day, every day he would come down and talk to me, take Rōzu out for a walk, then come back and sit by my cell and talk to me. He told me his name was Sabastion and, when no one else would be listening, he told me about the pack he is from. The Savage Moon Rose pack, where he was from, sounded amazing! So many different mythical creatures living in harmony, helping each other. Getting to travel whenever they wanted but always having a place to call home and as soon as the Alpha calls being there for each other to face whatever the danger was.

This continued on for about a year, his clean sent becoming a comforting one as he was allowed to stitch up my wounds after a beating or torture session. As the year came to an end I knew I would be turning 19, in human years, in a few weeks. And in this time I started to notice a new, even more calming sent, coming off of Sabastion's clothes. When I asked him about it one day while he was stitching up some new wounds he told me it belonged to his alpha Yoru. When he finished and had left the cell, closing it behind him, he stopped for a second and murmured just loud enough for me to hear, "I will not be coming back to the cells in this manner. When you hear the snarling of wolves it will be time to leave this place." And with that he was gone.
