1 We're Survivors

Chaos , destruction , death , suffering, doom , none of the words could describe what we felt and what we saw .

A blast , no one could imagine that a blast would ruin the whole world . In this world , there are only two types of people - the survivors and the infected .

We are survivors , the one's who escaped the effects of the blast and are fighting for our lives . The infected , are those innocent people who couldn't save themselves from that fatal blast and it's effects .

Why did the blast happen? What happened after the blast? Was the blast planned? Many questions will be flooded in a person's mind . To know how it all started and what is my part in this chaos , we must know what the world had turned into ....

The world , which was a beautiful place to live with greenery and nature , had turned into a machine world with junk and electronics everywhere . The world had changed , people achieved new heights and this brought competition . Competition is said to be healthy when in limits but I'm talking about the kind of competition which aimed to destroy the competitors . But the competition that led our world to chaos was not between several companies or people .

It was between two pharmas , One - The Hastings pharma , the leading pharmaceutical company from decades , many companies tried to take over the pharma but none of them succeeded . Two - The Bernard pharma , a new emerging pharmaceutical company with capability to take over The Hastings pharma .

The two pharmas were involved in continuous clash and sabotage . One would sabotage the other to get to the top most position . They were deeply involved in creating new drugs , experimenting and even researching on several radio active elements . Both wanted to make a revolution , something new , a creation that would make them the best in pharma industry .

How was I involved in any of this ?

Well , my name is Amara Hastings . I'm supposed to take over The Hastings pharma once I'm of age and my father is ready to retire . About my mother , I lost her when I was five . She passed away due to cancer and since then my dad spent each and every day of his life working in the laboratory . He believes to create a cure for every incurable disease . I have taken up medicine as my major , I want to assist my dad in his research and continue with his work . I study in an Ivy league college and No , I did not get into the college because of my dad's influence of any kind . I've always been an straight-A student and my grades guaranteed me a place there .

I was staying at the college hostel because the Ivy league college that I applied to takes hours to reach by car .

I spend most of my time buried in books , reading in the library . And when I'm not in the library I play games or go out with my best friends - Aria and Benny . Aria is my roommate , she's the sweetest and would never even hurt a mosquito whereas Benny is a football player , almost every girls loves him but he keeps his distance . There have been rumors about me and him but we don't bother to care . We three have been inseparable since the first day and don't let anyone interfere in our friendship .

Then comes the person I hate the most , Kyle Bernard . Yes you're right , he's the heir of The Bernard pharma and tries to make my life a living hell in every way possible . The rumors about me and Benny were also started by him . I believe , he does it because of our family rivalry but I don't care , I want to live in peace .

The Beginning

I was in the canteen , when my dad came to visit me and asked me to come home for a few days . I informed the college of my absence and left with my dad .

My dad had invented the cure for cancer , I was very happy for him because cancer is the reason my mother wasn't with us anymore . This invention could help to save the lives of many loved one's . The news of his invention had been spread worldwide , people from every corner of the world were contacting him for the cure . In the coming weeks , he had many conferences, meetings and parties to attend and he wanted me to stay by his side and support him during the most important time of his life .

Eventually weeks passed and I returned back to college . Things were going well until one evening , this was the evening my whole life changed . My dad's pharma company had caught fire and there was a big explosion . No one survived , not a single person . The pharma and everything within two hundred kilometers radius to the pharma was now destroyed . The pharma consisted of many radio active elements and highly flammable substances due to which the explosion turned into a blast , a huge one .

On receiving the news , all I could think about was that I had no one left . I was an orphan now , the only family that I had and loved was gone . I wanted to cry , but a single tear didn't come out of my eyes . I was in shock , I didn't believe it , I couldn't believe that I lost my dad . Everyone tried to console me even Kyle Bernard , I couldn't believe that he had it in him to console anyone . He has always been the guy , who's too cool to show emotions .

But nothing really mattered , no words could bring my father back , no words could give me peace and no words could make me forget what I lost .

By the next few hours , many students from college started receiving news of the death of their families . The college declared a leave of one week because many students lost their family . Everyone wanted to take time away from college.

Right after a few hours I drove my way to home and decided to visit the remains of the pharma . Aria and Benny tagged along. But as soon as we started going towards the pharma , people stopped us from entering , they were investigating the place . I asked them if they knew what caused the fire in the first place but they were in a hurry and wouldn't answer to my question .

They said that due to the radiations from radio active substances, it was not safe for people to enter . They stopped people from entering the places which were not destroyed in the blast as well since the radiations were spread wide across the land .

I tried to argue my way into the place , but they weren't going to let anyone pass through . That was when I saw it , something so unusual , so creepy but I didn't focus much on it as it could just be due to the blast .

I was right , it was due to the blast , but it wasn't something that should have been ignored ....
