34 Guard Shen Mo

A few days later.

The incident where a corpse was found hanging on a beam reached Lin Xiaomeng's ears. He was so enraged of the fact that someone was so brazen to hang a corpse inside the Lin residence and without being detected by his soldiers patrolling the area of the Lin residence.

On that same day, the soldiers who were scheduled to patrol that night were unable to escape military punishment and one of those soldiers was the poor soldier who had to listen to Lin Xiaofei's orders.

However, because he didn't want to end up dead for what he had done, Shen Mo, the soldier kept his mouth shut and treated it as if nothing happened that night.

He was also glad that the young miss he met that night didn't call for him nor did he get unlucky and encounter her again. He was so glad that after getting punished because he was among the soldiers who patrolled that night, Shen Mo rounded the residence with a smile on his face and hummed a song, until, his eyes landed on the fiery red dress in front him while he bent down to tie his knee guard.

The smile on his face paused for a moment and when he used his eyes to slowly trail upward, he could no longer bring a smile on his face as the same young lady that night was standing in front of him with a smile yet not a smile.

Startled at the sudden arrival of the young miss, Shen Mo almost jumped in fright. He wondered how he couldn't hear her footsteps when she walked next to him and how faint her presence was until he felt her right next to him.

Was this young lady really not the goddess of death?

Shen Mo shook his head from that thought and looked at the young lady in red.

"Young m...miss." Shen Mo unconsciously took a step backward as he said that.

With a slight smile on her face, Lin Xiaofei said to him, "Hello… We meet again."

Lin Xiaofei was standing before him wearing a red dress that made her complexion vibrantly pleasant and healthy. The color of her dress was similar to that of a dress worn in a wedding, however, she had no intention to become a bride today and only wore this kind of color along with black since blood wouldn't be too obvious once it splashed on her dress.

"Ye... Young Miss! Yes... We meet again!" Shen Mo nervously stuttered.

Slightly tilting her head, Lin Xiaofei took a step forward and suddenly said, "I heard you were punished."

"I was!" He answered loudly to which he received a frown from Lin Xiaofei. He lowered the volume of his voice and added, "Along with my other fellow soldiers."

"I see…" She nodded her head.

Shen Mo looked around and saw no soul was around and there were only the two of them in the back of a courtyard so he asked her where her maidservants were.

"I left them in my courtyard." Lin Xiaofei replied to his query. Looking at him with no emotion whatsoever in her eyes.

Shen Mo nodded his head, scratching his nose as he had nothing else to say. He wished he could go away and escape before this young lady in front of him, reminding him of what transpired that night.

Having witnessed her cruelty and the pain she inflicted on Ke Song, Shen Mo knew he had to change his views about the Fourth Young Miss of the Lin family.

Just like everyone else, he had heard of the infamous Fourth Young Miss of the Lin family and had spoken nasty things behind her. His fellow soldiers once had a discussion where they mocked and laughed at Lin Xiaofei's stupidity and how she was unworthy to be a part of the Lin family or be the granddaughter of their general, Lin Xiaomeng.

The soldiers under Lin Xiaomeng idolized him and wished they could be like him in the future and that's why they couldn't accept that a valiant and reputable general would have a waste as his granddaughter.

That was what Shen Mo was also thinking, however, until recently, his views on Lin Xiaofei changed dramatically after what happened that night. When he met Lin Xiaofei in the middle of the night, he really did think that he had seen a demon appearing in front of him because of how potent her killing intent and aura was, and with the blood staining her middle clothes*, it made him think that the goddess of death has come to take his life.

And after listening to her demands, Shen Mo almost had his eyes and ears popping out as he couldn't believe what he was hearing and seeing. He saw how a hairpin was sticking out of a man's eye inside her courtyard and wondered who did that, but he no longer thought about it when he saw the emotionless face of Lin Xiaofei as she said:

"A worm has crawled its way in my courtyard and I need your help to crush it."

When Shen Mo heard that, he had severe goosebumps after seeing this new side of the fourth young miss whom they kept laughing at for her idiocy. He had never thought that the fruit didn't fell from the wrong tree and he no longer doubted that Lin Xiaofei was Lin Xiaomeng's blood.

Snapping out of his thoughts, he asked the young woman in front of him a question he hoped he never asked, "Does young miss have anything she wants from me?"

Soon after he said that a genuine smile bloomed on her face, the opposite of the smile she showed earlier that never reached her eyes. However, this smile has brought an undeniable fear and regret growing inside Shen Mo.

"Guard Shen is not only hardworking but also smart. I am glad that I wasn't wrong with my choice."

"What does the young miss mean by that?" Shen Mo anxiously asked as he looked at the wicked smirk on her mouth

Stepping closer to him, she said, "I want you to come with me."
