11 Break Off the Engagement

When the people in the Receiving Hall heard her words, their reactions were divided into two.

On one side, Lin Xiaomeng felt conflicted and pitied his granddaughter while, the other side felt stunned and displeased at the sudden interruption.

Lin Xiaofei walked into the Receiving Hall and stopped a meter away from the two different sides.

Her complexion was extremely white but looked healthy, her rosy cheeks gave a feeling of a delicate young lady and her red lips were slightly raised like she was smiling but her smile didn't reach her eyes.

However, this wasn't what made Chu Wang Ji and Madam Chu stunned. When Lin Xiaofei's figure came into their vision, they couldn't believe their eyes. Chu Wang Ji was secretly stunned with her extreme beauty and heard his chest 'thump' when he laid his eyes on her.

Wearing a black dress and robe, Lin Xiaofei looked like she had just come out of a painting. Her hair that was on her back was swaying along with her as she walked and the single silver hairpin on her hair flashed a small beam of light that blinded them momentarily.

On the other hand, Madam Chu was also shocked when she saw how Lin Xiaofei walked, her every step made flowers bloom beneath her, soft and soundless.

The elegance of her steps was extremely shocking and the way her eyes coldly swept towards them made their bones chill. And when the young lady got nearer, her features became clear and they couldn't take their eyes off her.

A woman could either have a beautiful face or a graceful temperament.

They could be as beautiful as an immortal but they would always be associated with mermaids that pull men to death. While a woman with a graceful temperament was someone that could be described as a fairy residing inside a flower that blooms.

However, no one could have both as it will result in a calamitous beauty.

And yet, the young lady in front of them possessed both of them.

Lin Xiaofei was already known for her beautiful face but it was covered because of her rude manners and spoiled attitude. This was also one of the main reasons why the Chu family and Chu Wang Ji pushed the breaking of the marriage engagement.

The countless nasty rumors surrounding Lin Xiaofei made the Chu family's face red whenever their peers and other higher-ranking nobles mentioned it in front of them.

When they found out and witnessed Lin Xiaofei's actions, they wished they could go back in time and stop the engagement between the two families before everything would be wasted.

But today, Madam Chu suddenly had a strange feeling rising inside her heart, but she didn't know what kind of emotion it was.

"Fei'er… What are you doing here? You're still recuperating, go back to your room and let grandfather handle this." Lin Xiaomeng said.

He noticed the Chu family's surprised expression but he didn't read the state of their thoughts and his attention was fully focused on his granddaughter's figure.

Lin Xiaomeng frowned when he saw her pale skin and stood up from his chair. He took his cloak hanging behind his chair and went to Lin Xiaofei's side to put it on her.

With his large figure covering Lin Xiaofei's slender and delicate figure, Chu Wang Ji and Madam Chu snapped out of their trance.

Chu Wang Ji was the first one who reacted first and asked, "What does the Fourth Lin Young Lady mean by that?"

When he heard Lin Xiaofei agreeing with the breaking off the engagement he had first thought he was hearing things and didn't believe it. After all, with Lin Xiaofei's attitude, once she heard of their engagement falling through, she would surely make a fuss about it and throw a tantrum.

However, Chu Wang Ji's expectation wasn't met as Lin Xiaofei remained still and didn't even look at his way from the start till now.

"That is right. Fei'er, what do you mean let's break off the engagement?" Lin Xiaomeng also asked.

Chu Wang Ji wasn't the only one who was expecting her to throw a fit since Lin Xiaomeng was also prepared to see her like that and demand Lin Xiaomeng to not agree with it. However, what's this? Lin Xiaofei actually agreed to break off the engagement herself?

Lin Xiaofei felt funny when she saw their faces. She didn't know whether she should laugh or cry for not meeting their image of her in their minds.

Was she supposed to scream bloody hell and beg them to not break off the engagement?

Lin Xiaofei didn't think so.

"Just as I said. Let's break off the engagement." She paused before continuing, "Wait, that's sounded too pitiful. So, let me rephrase it."

She faced the two guests who came to put more problems on Lin Xiaomeng and said, "I want to break off the engagement."

As someone that has lived two lifetimes, Lin Xiaofei didn't want to appear pitiful and become someone that tragically got her engagement broken off even after rebirth.

She wanted to live this life however she wants. Dangerously or Soundly. She didn't care since she wanted to wreak havoc and destroy the lives of those people who made her past life miserable.

Remembering her initial plan, Lin Xiaofei was feeling good.

However, the other three people inside the Receiving hall were silent. Their eyes were on her face and saw the indifference written on it.

Her calmness gave a restless emotion bloom inside Chu Wang Ji and Madam Chu's heart.

But why?

This question wasn't answered when they asked now, but it will be answered in the future as it would plant a seed of remorse inside their heads as they stomp their feet for letting go of this chance.

But it was only Lin Xiaomeng who felt conflicted. He was worried that his granddaughter said these words because of her anger and didn't mean it, so he asked her once again, "Are you sure about this?"

She turned to look at him and firmly said, "Yes."

"But, this will affect your future."

"Doesn't matter. The future and the past don't really matter to me." She said as she laid her eyes on Chu Wang Ji, "And I don't think I would want to be betrothed with someone who's blinded with greed. Be careful, one might find oneself in an eternity of darkness"

When Chu Wang Ji heard this, his face turned dark and ugly and his nose flared. His pride as a man was insulted when someone was telling him that he was a man who didn't see her value and was greedy to latch himself to a bigger prey.

Her words were dripped with ice and seemed to have a deeper meaning other than what it meant. However, they couldn't decipher what she meant by 'eternal darkness' and was left with confusion.
