Samuel’s warning

Jasper rubbed his temples, his eyes downcast. At this tense moment, it slipped his mind to counter how Samuel knew Ella was working in his house. It was a secret. Other than Elsa and the caretaker, no one knew about Ella living in his house. However, his mind was too preoccupied to question Samuel about it.

Jasper began to explain the intricate ties between Ella, her uncle Bennett Jones, and Paul. "Ella's uncle owed millions to Paul and was unable to repay the debts. Paul had his eye on Ella for a long time, and he demanded that Bennett give her to him in exchange for forgiving the debt. Bennett readily agreed to this and promised to marry Ella to Paul without her consent."

"I see." Samuel nodded, piecing together the puzzle bit by bit.

"The night Ella escaped Paul and his men, she accidentally ran into me," Jasper recounted. "It was raining heavily that night."
