Back to the story...

    Kofo's mouth dropped open.

"You can't assign me as his bodyguard, it's not part of my Job and it's not even in my resume." Kofo couldn't believe what the chief had just said. Why would she risk her life for someone who hadn't even given her a good first impression.

"He's also a jerk and an ass, what do you even need a bodyguard for?"

Mr drake said nothing. His green eyes just watched her carefully, uncaring of the insults pointed his way, which compared to earlier in the morning did not make sense. Despite all of this, kofo couldn't help but think about how beautiful his eyes were. Kofo felt uncomfortable under his stare and was grateful when the chief spoke again, grabbing both their attention.

"A word kofo." The chief said motioning to the door. He pulled out a file before following her out. In the corridor, he pulled out a photo and handed it over to her.

Kofo's face of anger changed into one of shock at the sight before her. It showed a naked woman in a bathtub full of red water, her limbs sticking out and the rest of her body submerged. There were two areas of bruising on each side of the woman's neck. She noticed the stitches and dried blood that marked her skin. Upon closer look, she noticed how carefully done each stitch was, not a single mistake. Kofo mulled over the picture. There was water and droplets of blood on the floor so she'd obviously struggled. Whoever did this planned everything and knew exactly what he wanted. Kofo closed her eyes as the chief spoke again.

"Imagine this kofo, no finger or foot prints, no evidence to point us in the right direction. This is not some crook we can outsmart kofo, this is a master at work. We can't just choose anyone for this job. We need someone focused and intelligent. We need you Kofo.

Kofo's ego would have swelled if he hadn't pronounced her name wrong three times. Three years working under him and he still couldn't get it right. Kofo sighed, knowing she was going to regret her answer in the future.

"When do I start?"

Two hours later...

Kofo sat at the back seat of a black Limousine with a small bag next to her. Mr Drake had given her enough time to hail a cab home and pack her belongings. It turned out, much to kofo's dismay that she would be living with him. It wouldn't make any sense for her to guard him from the comfort of her living room now would it?

Mr drake hadn't said anything when he came to pick her up, and he wasn't saying anything now as he sat beside her on the soft seats.. She figured she'd be pretty distant too if a murderer was after her. She remembered how he'd opened the door for her when he came to pick her up

'So he's capable of being polite' She thought.

Kofo was brought back to present when Mr Drake shifted beside her. Kofo tried to ignore the captivating smell of his cologne as he poured himself a scotch.

"Want some?" He asked, finally breaking the comfortable yet somewhat awkward atmosphere between them. Kofo shook her head no and then replied.

"I don't drink."

"Why? Not a fan of bitter substances?" He paused, waiting for an answer, but when he had none, he spoke up again.

"You're not going to answer?"

"Why? So you can insult me again?" Kofo snapped, clearly still upset about earlier.

"I said i was sorry." He said, feeling guilty. "I was annoyed and besides, I think your ass is quite wonderful."

Kofo sighed, deciding to ignore his comment. It would be better if she got over this now. Their detective team was supposedly good so she figured she wouldn't be living with him for too long   and if the chief was right about what he said, maybe two months. Just because the guy was smart didn't mean they weren't smarter.

"Look Kofo, I really am sorry-" Kofo tried to ignore the feeling deep down as he said her name for the first time.

"but let's start afresh, forget about this morning. We can even be friends-" Kofo scoffed at his comment.

"or something more if you don't want to be friends." He said with a suggestive wink. Kofo laughed and replied.

"This relationship between us is purely professional, after all of this, we go our separate ways. That's my only condition, deal?"

"So we're doing conditions now?" He asked with a bored expression but kofo pressed on.

"Deal?"

Mr drake rolled his eyes before leaning forward.

"Deal."

"Pleasure doing business with you, sir." She said as she leaned in.

"So we're on first name basis now, Liam?" Kofo guessed.

"Only if I can call you Kofo."

"You already did a while ago."

Kofo only just noticed how close they had leaned in towards each other during their conversation and pulled away from Liam.

"I did, didn't I?" Liam noticed her awkwardness and smirked, enjoying her reaction. He spoke up again.

"Let's get to know each other, what's your full name?"

"You wouldn't be able to pronounce it. Its not an English name"

"I have businesses all around the world, I've picked up a thing or two. Try me."

"Kofoworola."

He repeated after her and obviously didn't get it right, judging from Kofo's reaction as she laughed out loud.

"That's not fair, you should've said it slowly!" Kofo paused mid laughter and replied.

"As you can see." She said motioning to her skin colour. "I an dark."  Kofo launched into her full blown laughter again.

Liam smiled at her antics. Normally, he wouldn't have cared but something about Kofo intrigued him. It pulled him and he wanted to get to know the woman beneath the chocolate coloured skin, the almond shaped eyes, the small nose, the full lips and her gap tooth that showed whenever she smiled.

She was everything he wanted in a woman at first glance. Liam was a man curiosity. Right now he wanted to know the feeling that just bloomed inside of him.

What exactly is this foreign feeling and why was it happening now?
