Chapter 1.

The hot humid air rushed past her ears. Her short shallow breaths coming out in puffs of air. Trickles and beads of sweat beginning to form on her forehead.

Kofo pushed her muscles to go faster trying to catch up with the hooded man running away in front of her. He'd already gotten a considerable amount of a headstart. His form was disappearing between crowds of people on the crowded sidewalk. Kofo paused and avoided as many bodies as she could mid run. One thing was clear on her mind. She could not and would not lose this person.

Earlier this morning...

Kofo strides in through the automatic doors of the police station with a bounce in her steps. She was fairly happy in her casual clothes and her long natural hair in a tight up do. She'd figured she'd get her morning pick one-up on Alex's desk to go with the large chocolate covered donut in her hand. However, it seemed her morning would not go as planned when the barbie looking woman, kofo considered a monstrosity waltzed up to her.

"Kofo" She'd said as she looked her up and down through her long fake eyelashes.

"Ki le tu fe." Kofo had asked her in her mother tongue which meant what do you want?

Kofo sighed when she picked up on Marjorie's confusion. She tilted her head to the side, answering her question with another. The pure distaste evident on her face and tongue.

"Did you come to me to waste my time or did you actually need something."

"The chief asked for you." She said before reaching and promptly smacking the doughnut out of kofo's hand. She started to walk past kofo but kofo was upset. She'd wondered what the poor doughnut had done to deserve such harsh treatment especially since it had tasted so good.

Kofo reached out, grabbing onto the back of Marjorie's shirt. She felt around a bit before grasping her bra strap and then pulling it as far back as she could before letting it go. It smacked against Marjorie's skin and a yelp of pain of pain followed immediately.

Kofo swiftly turned on her heels, marching towards the chief's office before Marjorie could respond.

Kofo walked down the hallway on her way to her friend's desk. Kofo's job only consisted of stopping bad guys and thieves, criminals, junkies, all that sort. She couldn't imagine sitting at a desk, staring at a boring screen and doing even more boring paperwork. She preferred to be on the front lines and doing good with a whole lot of action.

Kofo sat herself on the side of the desk, watching her friend work.

"Morning!" She chirped, startling her. Alex pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose, something kofo observed she did a lot.

"Hey Kofo, how's your morning going?"

"Could be better, if Daniel was back with my hot chocolate." Speaking of the devil, said Daniel arrived with a tray and a large pink box with a doughnut picture. He set the box down and handed the two of them a cup with different contents. Coffee for Alex and hot chocolate for kofo. Kofo reached for a chocolate covered doughnut from the pink box just as another hand grabbed it.

She turned around already knowing who it was as she looked up at a pair of brown eyes.

Kofo's body immediately straightened as she stared at her squad leader. He was 25, brown hair, brown beard and (something she would never admit) quite handsome.

"Morning squad leader!" She said before saluting.

Rafael chuckled before his lips broke into a smile.

"You can just call me Rafael like every body else." He said before raising the sugary goodness to her lips, letting her take a bite. Kofo chewed before deciding she didn't like being fed and took the rest. Kofo turned as another presence joined the group.

He was Xander, short for Alexander and Alex's twin brother. Their mother wasn't exactly the most creative when She'd named the twins Alexander and Alexandra. Then again, it wasn't really her fault since her parents had named her Lady. Guess they were not so creative either. However, the group found their way around it and decided it was best to call one Xander and the other Alex.

"You sure you too aren't dating?" Xander asked, referring to kofo and Rafael's moment earlier on with a raised eyebrow.

"Positive, just friends." Kofo replied and being the only one to miss Rafael's look of sadness. Just then, an alarm rung followed by a voice over the intercom, indicating that there was a robbery in progress. Kofo nearly fell off the table, happy that finally there was something to do with her time. She raced of to change into her uniform and grab her equipment.
