Chapter 14: First Date

Dell adjusted her off-shoulder blouse, took a deep breath, and stepped into the cafe. She hadn't been on a date in years. And truth be told, she was a little nervous. She didn't like being nervous. And she was 15-minutes late! She hated being late.

"Dell!"

Dell looked up and saw Sean waving from a table near the window. She smiled in relief that she found him right away, and headed to him. "Hey, Sean. Did you wait long?"

"Nah. You look pretty," he said as she took her seat in front of him.

"Thanks." She beamed. That was the reason for her lateness. She couldn't decide what to wear.

"You should wear clothes like this more often."

"Yeah, I just don't have a lot of chances to do so."

"Perfect, I can be your excuse." He smiled at hear meaningfully.

Dell couldn't help but laugh. "Thank you, I will use you as my excuse to wear pretty clothes, then. Haha!"

"The honor is mine. So, what is our date plan for the day?"

"Well… I was thinking of watching this movie."

"Sounds good. What movie?"

Dell hesitated. "Um… Flaming Hearts?" Cheesy romantic movies. Her guilty pleasure. "But if it's not your thing, we can watch MarsMan," she added quickly. "I know it's all the rage in the geek community."

"We can watch Flaming Hearts. That's what you want, right?"

"Well, yeah, but…"

"Then what my girlfriend wants to watch today, we will watch."

Dell couldn't help but smile. "You're so easy to be with, Sean."

"I will take that as a compliment."

"Oh, can we take a picture?"

"Sure."

Dell and Sean leaned close together as Dell extended her arm with her phone for a selfie.

"Did it turn out okay?"

"Yeah," Dell murmured. Sean was cute as always. But she… Hmm. "I look oily."

"No, you don't."

"Can we take another one just to be sure?"

"Very well."

Sean leaned in close and Dell took another one. She turned on an app and tried changing the color filters. That should probably do it. Hmm, what would Raph think if he saw this? No, wait. Maybe the first picture would be better. Dell discarded the edits of the second picture and loaded the first one. Okay, the colors took care of the shine. And she guessed the first picture looked more like a couple shot. But her cheeks...

"What are you doing?" Sean asked.

"Just fixing the pic a little bit." Oh, Max mentioned an app that can make a person's face look a little thinner. What was the name of that app again? "One moment, I'll just download something."

"Hey, I thought we were on a date."

"We are. We are." She glanced up at Sean, and he was looking at her disapprovingly. His fingers were drumming impatiently on the table. "It won't take too long," she told him.

She heard him sigh. "I'll just go to the restroom."

"I'll be done when you get back."
