16 New recruits

"Did you hear? The slaves are starting a rebellion!" A woman said.

"Really? I didn't know" Her husband replied.

"Don't act so casual, the slaves may be planning to attack us!" She screamed.

"Don't worry too much, a few slaves can't harm a goddamn fort city! This place have resisted attacks from hundreds upon hundreds of armies!" The man preached.

"Yeah, maybe I was getting worried over nothing" The woman felt relieved. She had good reason to, the city has resisted attacks from almost every kingdom and empire in existence! But, the city isn't what it used to be, the guards haven't told anyone, but the noble managing this place has decided to increase production instead of soldiers, so their strength is weakening. So I'm not really sure if this city will actually be able to resist any more attacks.

Maybe I'm just looking too much into it.

"Captain! It's time to go!" Three soldiers approached me, "Very well, let's give that young noble a piece of our minds!" I shouted to my men "Aye!" They replied.

Yes, I am a captain of the local guard, my name is Ligart. I am from the part of the guards that are against the new change, we had managed to get an audience with the new noble today, in order to discuss the new changes.

"So, you guys want to stop focusing on production, and put our efforts in defense?" Gilbert Silvertomb said, he is the Viscount of the city.

"Y-Yes, sir," I said.

"Hehehe, how ridiculous. Are you saying your troops aren't fit for battle?"

"N-No, my troops should be able to fend off attacks from small forces. But it's not enough, what if the slave-" I tried explaining.

"Slaves this, slaves that. Is that your only argument? Are you saying your troops can't fight a bunch of mud-bloods?" Gilbert said mockingly.

"Mu-Mud-bloods!? They are still human! I plead you don't use such words" I protested.

"Oh, could it be that you are feeling compassionate for a few slaves?"

"T-That's not it, s-sir, I just-"

"Send him out"

"No! Your greatness, listen to me!" Gilbert stopped the guards for a second, for a second I actually felt relieved.

"I've changed my mind, execute him" After Gilbert said this, the two guards came and dragged me off.

"Let me go! I am the captain of the gate guards!" I screamed and thrashed as I was dragged off to the executioner. "Shut up will you" after one of the guards said this, they dragged me to an alleyway.

"Here's a secret exit to the city. We want you to escape" The guards said.

"Wait, wasn't I going to get executed?"

"You were, but no one in this city wants it, except for Gilbert of course," Guard-one said.

"But what am I supposed to do in the woods?"

"I don't know, hopefully, something to make Viscount Silvertomb change his mind. However, we don't have time to chat idly, here, have some food and water" The guards threw me a leather bag.

"There are clothes in there too, make sure you stay alive" After the guards were done talking, they left me.

Seems I don't have any other choice but to escape. There's not much I can think of, however, I know of one thing that might change the Viscount's point of view. After leaving through the covered up hole. I set off to find the infamous slave rebellion.

"MASTER! There are reports of several individuals wanting to join the rebellion!" Isao stormed into my room

"Where are they from, and why do they want to join?" I asked him.

"Ehmm, most of them are from fort-cities, cities, castles and the capital. And most of them are exiles, fugitives or slaves." Isao said.

"Are there any exceptional individuals?" I asked.

"Well, most of them haven't gotten any good training, but there are few who comes from noble families and the knight order, there's even a guard captain among them!"

"Interesting, what's the name of this captain?" I asked Isao.

"His name is Ligert, he's from the fort city we were planning to attack. "I want to meet with these people immediately. Please gather them in the main tent"

"Understood!" Isao quickly went to get these people.

We have gotten far with our little 'project', seems word is spreading about us. That also means some of the people gathered, are spies, or people with ill intentions. I took a look outside my newly constructed house. The laborer slaves have been using their experience to build a small fortress. This poses a problem for secrecy, but the fort is good, almost too good. The fort is really well built, but the laborer slaves shouldn't be able to make something of this level.

Now that I think of it, Netis wasn't all that strong, only had the strength of a D-class adventurer. But after she came along with me, her progress skyrocketed. It was the same with Isao, maybe it's related to the book I'm studying? I haven't had that much time to study it lately, and my progress with magic is falling behind. I have only managed to learn one type of advanced magic. Explosion magic. ( https://me.me/i/ah-i-see-youre-an-arch-wizard-of-culture-as-13722497 )

Then Isao suddenly entered the room, "Master, they have been gathered"

Seems, I'll have to think about that at a later date.

I went to the place the recruits have been gathered and stepped onto the platform. "Now, I heard that you people wanted to join us in the fight against slavery? Well, I don't really care if that's the case, you don't really need a reason to join this small army of ours. There are only two requirements to join, which is: You have to be of some use to us, and you can't have any ill intentions. That's it"

I continued talking after a short pause, "You might think you're great at what you do, but I have already seen through 6 of you. Kebin, can you please escort the gentlemen to the interrogation room?" After asking this, Kebin came out of nowhere, and asked, "What about the ones that we can't get any information from?"

"Hmm, put them to work on the farms, we have enough guards there. If they become an eyesore, imprison them." As I answered the question, the audience was getting nervous. "It shall be done," Kebin said, "I call upon my loyal knights, that serves me until their own destruction! Summoning!" After Kebin was done chanting, several iron-clad knights appeared out of summoning circles and started escorting 27 individuals out of the 80 people gathered here.

"Now that that's out of the way, we can finally start focusing on the important thing. Team building, in here, we arrange our troops in several teams or groups that specializes in handling specific situations. Some of them are simply attack squads that are used to attack small towns and forces. While some are research teams that specialize in the research of magic and potions and finding ways to find a way to mass-produce them. As you can guess, you get assigned to a team based on your abilities and personality. And no matter what type of team you get assigned to, I expect you to get along with your teammates. I will personally assign you to teams so please stand in line by that counter over there." After saying all this, all the recruits lined up at the counter at the other end of the room.
