17 Introducing the elites

When I was making the squads, I took the very best people with me in order to make elite squadrons. The results have been great, some of them had to be sent to other squads since they weren't able to handle the training I gave them. Some didn't like the captains and some were just incapable.

I chose around 50 people and made squads that were from 4 to 6 people. Out of all those people, 34 people left. However, in the last few days, we got a lot of new people, around 53 people joined. Most of them were exiles that have heard the rumor of a rebellion, and most of them were capable fighters. So, out of the 34 people who left the elites, 9 were replaced. And after they were assigned to their squads, I ended up with 5 squads with 5 people each making it a total of 25 people.

Half of the people I started off with went away, but now I'm left with only the best. That can only be a good thing, right? I guess it's time to meet these individuals.

I went outside of my house and walked towards the training area for the elites. When I arrived, I saw that every squad except for one was doing teamwork training. The odd ones out were squad 3, where Drok became the leader. They were doing strength training, muscle was squad 3's specialty, no other squad could compare to them in raw strength.

I called every squad over to the wooden platform that sort of looked like a stage. One after the other the five squads lined up next to each other with the leader standing first in every row. I looked upon them and shouted "Name call!"

Squad 1 was the first ones to call out their names. "Captain of Squad 1, Itami!" Squad 1 specializes in close quarter combat. By using their swords, spears, gloves, and staffs they are able to eliminate enemies with ease as long as they can reach them.

Squad 2 was next, "Captain of Squad 2, Ouji!" Squad 2 specializes in ranged weapons. They mostly use bows and crossbows but have been seen training with long-range spells.

Squad 3 shouted their names, "Captain of Squad 3! DROK!" Squad 3 was the perfect example of muscle brains. Every squad member was gigantic and was wearing armor so heavy it would normally crush an ordinary person's bones. On the battlefield, they were excellent tanks and is almost like a wall for the enemy.

Squad 4 was next, "Captain of Squad 4, Elenaril!" Squad 4 was led by a female elf that used to be a mage before she was captured by human slave-merchants. Squad 4 overall specializes in magic and potions. Their team was very varied since they had all from priests, attack mages and defense mages. They were perfect for backup on a difficult battlefield or to protect from enemy magic attacks.

Squad 5 was the last in line, "Captain of Squad 5, Ligert!" Squad 5 was led by the guard captain Ligert who escaped an execution ordered by the noble governing the area. Squad 5 was the most varied out of all of them. They had Ligert who was an expert in close quarters combat, an archer, a tank, a priest and a thief. Which made them a lot more balanced than the other squads, allowing them to go on solo squad missions.

Since most of the squads consist of specialists in certain fields, they can for the most part only go to group attack missions. Group attack missions are basically doing stuff that requires a lot of people. However, with the strength of these people, they could easily wipe out a castle with very little help.

Ligert's squad is a different case since they are so well-balanced, they are able to go on solo squad missions. Solo squad missions are basically doing stuff like scouting, eliminating singular monsters, setting traps and so on.

"Leader! Why have you assembled us?" Ligert asked. Seems they are getting impatient.

"I have gathered you here for one reason. And that is to discuss the plans for the attack on the fort-city, Hartbrunn!" I answered them. "The current plans are to send three scouting parties including Squad 5 to take a look at their defenses. And when we have gotten information, we will start the attack by sending around hundred-foot soldiers and a siege weapon," I told them the current state of the attack plans.

Drok raised his hand and shouted, "I think we should push the gate open using our POWAH!"

Itami responded with "That's just ridiculous, however, having Drok and the other tanks work like wall shielding for arrows and the like isn't a bad idea"

Ouji raised her hand, "I think we should bring archers as well. Only having footsoldiers might put us on a disadvantage"

Elanaril agreed with her and said, "The mages can use defense spells in order to protect the archers against other mages or wall-archers"

Ligert also raised his hand, "I already know a lot about the city's defense, it's nothing but bad. There are little to no wall-archers and the gate is almost unprotected. So, I suggest using a ram as the siege weapon as I doubt we'll be interrupted" Everyone agreed that having a ram would be for the best.

"Alright, so the attack plans are now, Ligert and 3 other scouting parties will check out their defenses and report back to us. We'll then start the attack by having the tanks in heavy armor at the front and archers protected by mages in the back. Around 20 people will be operating the ram while another hundred people will work as foot-soldiers. Does that sound right to you guys?" Everyone agreed. "Well, then. The plan will take place in two days, so make sure you are rested and in shape. You can go back to training now" I said and left the stage; the elites quickly went back to their training.

I went back to check up on Netis and Isao. Both of them were training soldiers in the same spot. "Netis, Isao, I need to talk to you," I said and walked to a place where there were little people.

"What is it, Master?" Isao asked.

"I have just discussed the plans for the attack with the elite squads," I said and told them the plan.

"That certainly is an improvement from what Isao made," Netis said.

"Hey! It wasn't that bad, right?" Isao looked at me, I ignored him.

"However, I am going to check up on Raz tomorrow. The day before the attack" I told them.

"That's understandable, but what do you want us to do?" Netis asked.

"I want you two to tell your soldiers that they need to rest and stay in shape for the attack. And Netis, I want you to find 20 people that can carry a ram. Meanwhile, Isao you can find three scouting parties, understood?"

""Yes"" They both said in sync and went to give the message of the attack to the soldiers. Meanwhile, I went and prepared myself for the meeting with Raz.

(Note: I'm finally done editing all the chapters, I am truly sorry it took so long. However, here is a list of changes I have done: Wolfie is now Rank-4 instead of Rank-6, blood house doesn't exist anymore, I changed Ubel's 4 aptitudes into a singular god-magic called "Creation" which allows him to LEARN any aptitude and change between them mid-casting. He currently only has fire and iron. I also made Isao into a more serious character since I think it fits him slightly better. Netis is now a beast-man of the tiger tribe.

It isn't much else I have changed except for my writing style which separates dialogue making it easier to read.)
