2 The summoning

Inside of the grand library was an eerie silence. Rows upon rows of bookshelves stretched towards the ceiling, each with books of all sizes and colours. Intricate carving on the wooden shelves depicted the type and category of books on them. To call this place a masterpiece would be an understatement. But this place was almost completely devoid of life; except for our protagonist and a librarian.

The librarian was an old man with deep creases etched into his skin. If it wasn't for his white hair, one would think that he was rather young considering how toned his muscles were. Scars filled his skin from one place to another, telling of how many hardships he had been through. Though despite the rough look, he always wore a gentle smile while reading a book.

When Aoi first entered the library, it was as if he had seen a shooting star. His eyes widened in surprise as he immediately jumped forward and gave the girl the most vigorous handshake ever. Aoi was of course very confused of the whole situation but still managed to try and calm the old man down.

Right now, they were currently sitting across from each other, drinking tea and reading books. While the old man who goes by the name 'Helmut' seemed to be reading an advance magic book, meanwhile Aoi was reading one on the basics of magic.

It had become an unspoken agreement that whenever Aoi was free, she would go to the library and drink tea with him.

In this world, there were 3 categories of magic.

- Elemental

- Higher Magic

- and Ying-Yang Magic

Elemental magic consists of the basic Wind, Fire, Ground and water. Higher magic consisted of Ice, Electricity, Nature, Gravity, Blood and Lava magic. Whereas Ying-yang consisted of the most unknown type of magic: Light and Dark Magic.

Unknown not because they haven't been studied but because they couldn't. This is due to the fact that the last known wielder of light magic was almost a millennium ago. Until recently that is.

For dark magic though, every wielder has been part of the demon-kin and they are quite tight-lipped on their secrets. They are so tight-lipped that nobody knows when the last dark-magic user existed.

Looking through the window, Aoi spotted her classmates training. Some of them were training their swordsmanship while others were enhancing their magic capabilities. Unfortunately, Aoi herself was proficient with neither. Though thankfully, due to the king's kindness, she was given refuge in the kingdom itself.

=== [Flashback] ===

Cheers erupted from every corner of the church-like room they were in. The robbed figures hugged each other with tears streaming down their face, talking in what seemed to be another language.

"VORRA" A loud voice rang out.

Suddenly, what seemed to be a joyous occasion was immediately silenced as all eyes shifted towards the source of the sound. The figure stepped forward, revealing a chiseled face while wearing what seems to be medieval knight armour. This caused the people nearby to step aside. He made his way towards the group that had just been summoned, applying more and more pressure with each step.

Once in front of the group, he tapped his neck. Two green circles appeared with what seemed like thousands of symbols between them. Some of the people started whispering but the figure silenced them immediately with a deadly gaze.

Suddenly, he kneeled down and placed his palms onto his chest. "We welcome the heroes." He spoke and stood back up.

"H-huh?" One of the students spoke. "What are you talking about?" He stuttered as he tried to stand up. But he immediately fell back down as he was still feeling the side effects of the summoning magic.

"S- Sir. With all due respect. I think this a mistake…" The teacher, Miss Okada, said as she was still sitting on the floor, slightly trembling.

The knight, let out a slight sigh before explaining. "I would like to assure you that this is not a mistake. We need your help"

"Wh- what are you talking about?"

"This summoning spell summons the group with the highest concentration of talent. It is a spell that cannot fail." He explained. "We are asking you to save us."

"This can't be. None of us have fought a single day of our lives, this must be a mistake. Please send us home…" Okada tried desperately to ask for a way back. She herself had her own life, along with all the students here. They HAD to return home.

The man shook his head, "I'm afraid not. This summoning spell is a one-way trip. You are

the only hope for our kingdom."

"What?" In an instant, the hope of returning shattered. The reality of the situation started to settle in. It was then that one of the student pointed out how ludicrous the situation is.

"THIS IS INSANE!!"

"OI, THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!" Another one joined.

The air in the room thickened with tension as the rightfully mad students barraged the knight with insults.

Suddenly, the knight lowered his head and bowed deeply in apology. "I beg your forgiveness for summoning all here" He started, as his voice echoed through the building. "But please do understand that our situation is dire. We NEED your help."

The students were all taken aback by the sudden apology. Takeshi decided to take the initiative. After all, he was the most popular in the class, so they were more likely to listen to him. "Guys, lets hear them out. Sir… knight? Can you raise your head?"

The knight lifted his head

"Could you please explain?" He said with a smile.

"Thank you." He took in a deep breath and continued. "We are currently under attack by the demon-kin who threatens to brutally end humanity. In an attempt to get ourselves out of trouble, we have decided to summon heroes." He paused, allowing the situation to set in.

"We know that this is a lot to ask of you all, but we have faith in your abilities." The knight continued. "We shall give you the appropriate training time and equipment. This alongside with best instructor in the world. We only ask you to defend this country and then you are free to do whatever you like…"

The room was silent as everyone processed the information. The weight of the situation was not lost on anyone. Miss Okada finally spoke. "And if we refuse?"

The knight's expression became serious. "I fear that would mean the end for our kingdom and our people. The demons are relentless and show no mercy."

"Can you please give us time to discuss?" She asked.

"Of course. Take your time." the knight responded.

The group of students huddled together as the teacher started. "I don't think we should fight. We have families at home, we should find a way to go back."

A portion of the students agreed with Okada's take. "But we don't have any way of going back. The knight said it was impossible." A student named Emiko pointed out.

"Then what if we just go and explore the world? That way we wont have to fight in this stupid war." Another student pointed.

Takeshi took the stage and pointed out "But where can we go. If we don't help, then we wont be able to find a place to stay."

The discussion continued for another 10 minutes before everyone reached an agreement. They would help the kingdom much to the dismay of Okada.

If you are wondering what our protagonist was doing throughout this time, she was being useless. Her social skills were at 0, so she didn't know how to input any of her opinions, so she simply watched as the others debated. Aoi herself didn't really have much of a connection to her previous world, so she wasn't against staying here.

Waving to the knight, Okada told them that they agreed to help the kingdom.

"We thank you for your help." The knight bowed once again.

"I do apologise for the lateness." Suddenly a voice came from the left side as a suited gentlemen entered the building. Another person with what seemed to be a butler suit followed behind. They both had the same magic circles that the knight had.

"YOUR HIGHNESS." Someone shouted. Immediately everyone apart from the students kneeled down. "Raise yourselves." He ordered.

Everyone immediately stood up and made way for the king to pass. "So these are the heroes?" He said looking at the summoned.

"Yes your highness." The knight responded, "They have agreed to helping us."

"I see." He responded monotonously "I would like to first and foremost apologise for summoning you so suddenly." He said as he bowed.

"Your highness. You shouldn't." The knight spoke worried.

"No no. It is only natural that I show respect to the people we are asking for help." He answered.

"Your highness, please raise your head" Okada spoke in a rush. The young man raised his head and looked back at the teacher. "I am sure you've heard from our knight about our situation."

He asked, looking at the group of students who nodded their heads in response.

"We understand how grave the situation is and we are willing to help." Takeshi said.

"That is good news. Unfortunately, there is something that you must do that might be a bit painful." he said.

"Bring out the Identification card." he ordered. immediately, some people brought over what seemed to be a blank metal sheet.

"You will need to put some blood on top of this." He said. "That will allow this sheet to provide us with your class and magical affinity."

Although with some pushback, they all agreed and with some help, managed to put their blood into the sheet. One by one, the cards would light up and Aoi couldn't help but get a little excited at what she might get.

"A HERO. WE'VE GOT A HERO YOUR HIGHNESS!!" One of the clerks(?) shouted. The king rushed towards the source of the sound only to see Takeshi. "A hero? What a miracle." he said with enthusiasm. "May I see your card"

[Name: Teruya Takeshi]

[Class: Hero]

[Affinity: Light(Extremely High)]

"My goodness." He said, slightly in shock. This is the first time in recorded history that someone had gotten an Extremely high affinity to light magic.

"Your highness, we have also gotten a divine saintess, a swordsmaster and a Beserker" another clerk said, this time more calmly.

"MY GOODNESS!!"

While the students couldn't understand what they were saying, they could feel the excitement in the room so it had to be good right?

Aoi looked at her card as it displayed her class and affinity

[Class - Bard]

[Affinity - Wind(Very Low)]

"Shit…" she muttered.

=== [End of flashback.] ===

Thankfully, they didn't kick her out of the palace but instead offered her a place to stay. Aoi decided to repay that kindness by studying the various weakness of monsters that they would face in dungeon and help the heroes in defeating them.
