253 Ugly And Uglier #153

"Gotta love drama..." I muttered to no one in particular, chuckling as I turned to the energy sphere flying behind me in the air and the crazy woman inside banging on its walls and spewing profanities.

Who would have expected such a plot twist where the big baddie behind the ancient organization that wanted to sacrifice Batwoman was her long-lost sister?

Not me, but probably every single fucking person retarded enough to read Batwoman's comics.

In any case, Batwoman and the Question successfully managed to dismantle the religion, and I was watching over them every step of the way, so I was ready to intervene when I found out they intended to bomb Gotham to hell and back.

Still, if the bomb weren't so close to detonating, I would have likely remained hidden and let the crazy bitch behind me fall to her death, but winds don't go as sailors please, or so they say.

Don't get me wrong. I was familiar with these types of stories. I was more than sure that Alice would survive somehow, or someone would later resurrect her, even had I not intervened.

Ultimately, Alice would be Batwoman's problem, whether she did or didn't change her ways, so I didn't mind wasting a few minutes of my time saving and handing her over to the authorities.

"You bastard! Who do you think--" And that was all Alice could say as we landed in front of the nearest police station, as I promptly knocked her out and tied her up.

"Dangerous criminal, evidence included. Treat with caution," I muttered as I wrote my words into a sheet of paper and threw it at the floor along with some recordings proving her guilt.

'One criminal organization down, one more to go...' I muttered as I rose into the air and flew towards Metropolis.

...

Metropolis Docks

Aboard the SS Serenity's deck

Leaning on the ship's railing with his legs sprawled on the ground, The Questions coughed, blood spilling out of his mask as he looked around, noting the dead bodies around him.

He chuckled bitterly, unfazed by the bullets and energy rounds flying over his head as the ship's metallic deck shook more intensely under him as the giant murder machine piloted by Ugly Manheim approached.

"I guess this is it for me..." The Question said as he reached into his inner pocket with a shaky hand, retrieving a trigger device. "Better than dying of boredom on some hospital bed," He added with a forceful scoff that sent a jet of blood flying out of his mouth.

He slowly raised his finger to push the button on the trigger device but stopped as he noticed a shadow looming over him. "What are you doing here?" The Question said as he raised his head and locked eyes with the figure kneeling in front of him.

"I'm here to help," The figure, Grayson, said, raising an eyebrow. "You don't have to do this..." He added, his gaze turning to the trigger device in the Question's hand.

"And then what, kid? I have lung cancer, the terminal, too late to cure kind," The Question said with a careless shrug. "Get out of here and let me die in peace," He added with a scoff.

"Incurable by modern science maybe, but there are other ways. I have other ways," Grayson replied with a sigh. "Let me help you," He intently added, looking the Question straight in the eye.

"Who the hell do you think you're talking to, kid?" The Question said as he took off his mask and frowned. "I'm Victor fucking Sage! I don't need no one's help!" He added, firmly shaking his head.

"Now get out of here. I don't need the death of a little brat weighing down my conscience..." The Question said, grunting as he turned around and slowly climbed to his feet, to which Grayson could do nothing but sigh and disappear.

"Hey, Ugly!" The Question said as he raised the trigger in the air for all to see, causing Bruno Manheim's eyes to widen. "Things are about to get a whole lot uglier!" He blankly concluded as he pushed the button, and fire instantly engulfed the upper deck from below.

...

"Damn... now I have to break the news to Richard..." I muttered, sighing as I watched the fire devour Manheim's ship alongside everyone and everything on board.

Despite his stand-offish attitude, I didn't really dislike or hate Victor Sage. We weren't exactly friends, but we shared the same teacher, and I would have gladly helped him if he'd let me. Free of charge, to boot.

I could have bailed his ass and forcefully healed him, but nothing good would come out of it, and I doubt think Richard would approve, even if it meant saving his student.

Unfortunately, Pride was a deadly poison, and Victor Sage was as proud as they came. I could do nothing but accept his decision and let him go out on his terms.

"Hopefully, a shiny new arm would soften the bad news for Richard..." I bitterly muttered, levitating a sizable chunk of Nth metal in front of my face as I gave it an inspecting glance.

Nth metal granted many abilities to its wielder and would make Richard into a force of nature on its own. It was also a decent energy conductor, but there's some room for improvement in that aspect.

I should be able to make something presentable once I've researched it and experimented combining it with other metals; if and when I could get my hands on more bullshit magic and sci-fi ores, that is.

'Which reminds me... I really need to find Billy Batson...' I mused as I put away the Nth metal in my inventory and prepared to leave. However, I stopped as I picked up the sound of something or someone speeding toward me.

I moved aside just in time to avoid a fist, followed by a beefy-looking man in blue jeans and a superman t-shirt. "Well, that's one way to greet someone, I suppose..." I said with a frown as I watched him balance himself and turn to me.

"I don't know about Gotham, but that's how we greet criminals in Metropolis..." The man said as he turned to me, giving me a bemused glare, much to my confusion.

"You're flying over a burning ship with an alien go-gah in your hand that suddenly disappeared..." The man said as he noticed my confusion, causing me to chuckle.

"Now that you put it like that, I suppose that looks incriminating," I said, scratching my head as I chuckled. "I was on my way to a police station anyway," I added with a shrug as I turned to leave, but the man quickly got in my way.

"How stupid do you think I am?" The man said, his eyes shining bright red as he flew to stand in front of me, crossing his arms as he gave me a blank look.

"Do you really want me to answer that...?" I asked, raising an eyebrow as I looked into the man's eyes, causing his eyebrow to twitch. "I already said I'm heading to a police station, so kindly get the fuck out of the way while I'm still asking politely," I added, narrowing my eyes at the man.

"I think not. You'll go to the police station, but I'll be the one to take you the--" And that was all the man could say before I appeared in front of him and buried my fist into his face.

I merely dusted my hands as I watched him fall into the water, preparing to leave as a red laser emerged from the water, flying straight towards my face.

"For fuck's sake..." I muttered as I raised my hand and blocked the laser beam, materializing Ebony in my free hand and firing at the man as he emerged from the water and charged me.

The bullets hit, but he shrugged the energy projectiles like they were nothing as I dismissed the gun and flew down to meet him halfway. I avoided the man's fist by a hair's breadth and blasted him with a fireball in the face.

I took advantage of the flames blocking his vision to spin my body and kick the man in the side of the head, but he was ready for it as he didn't even budge this time around.

He quickly reached for my foot, but I raised my hands and clapped next to his ears with all my strength, the loud noise assaulting his super hearing and causing him to freeze.

I quickly moved back and retrieved the Leviathan's axe from my inventory. I raised the weapon and swung it down on the man's shoulder. However, a slender, feminine hand caught my wrist before the attack could connect.

"Fancy meeting you here... let me guess, you're here to pay me back for the roof you destroyed...?" I said, raising an eyebrow as I dismissed my weapon and turned to the woman floating next to me, her red cape fluttering in the air.
