Unfortunate Luck

A day of light or the brightness of it can cause problems for the eyesight; the rays that penetrate my fragile eyes seem to be brief and I got pretty used to it. But I unfortunately disliked the sunrise.

"Seriously, how'd this happen?" the thought came to mind after the promotion I somehow achieved as I got in my adventurer clothing that was handed out to me after a long process of gruesome paperwork at this guild.

Weak is what I classify myself as, and horrible as I already thought it was, nothing comes closer than this luck ability that randomly appeared on my arm while I was completing my first quest.

"Cheer up Vel, it's not remotely bad." Ariel, who was right behind me, spoke, which a screech terrible to men proceeded afterwards.

"You scared me!" I said, walking a few steps back and turning to the blonde female, "I thought you were already waiting for me at the guild, why are you here to begin with?" I asked with a strange look on my face.

"You're late." she calmly responded, "best if I, your trustworthy guild attendant wake you up and get you ready for your first S-Ranked quest."

"No need to-" before getting nudged on the head the moment I spoke.

"And who is responsible for your finances, hm?" Ariel asked with a scary look on her face.

"You are.." I replied with a sour look on my face.

"Off we go then." as she grabbed my hands and dragged me along to the guild, which was kind of nice.

By now, something cliched would've happened, and that is correct, which isn't a good thing for all that comes forth in my direction.

"Kyah!" Ariel shockingly tripped before knocking me down.

"Not again!" I yelled before falling.

Cliched moments usually have a negative or positive thing come after it, unfortunately I've been met with Ariel's one thousand punches in about a millisecond to which I feel immediately after and was the most guttural feeling that felt sharp.

"I only touched your breasts, it's not that terrible is it?" I asked as I was healing myself.

"Might not for you, but is for me, now I can't be married." She cried fake tears, which made me roll my eyes in disbelief.

Well, enough of the cliched moments, as we arrived at the guild moments later before again another unfortunate problem arose for me, is this luck or pure misfortune, well, it's not anything too bad or unfortunate, but I hated the feeling of superiority.

"It's him!" one of the guild members pointed towards me, "It is!" Another one looked in surprise.

"It's Velvet Goon Kaiser, our savior!" another one said while everyone got up and cheered loudly.

"Great." I sighed, accepting this as a token of my life in crisis.

Being famous is such bad luck, but again, it's not a bad feeling to have, which is saying a lot for a person like me, whose luck ability is only his greatest downfall.

"Why couldn't I just be a knight in shining armor." I fell onto the ground feeling depressed.

"Don't be that way Velvet, here I'll help you back up." Ariel gave me a big pat on my back, which only hurt and helped me up by holding my armpits with one arm while holding my hand with the other.

"Give me a quest already." I groaned.

Looking at me, she pulled out a quest out of nowhere and showed it to me, "Well, if you have nothing better to do than take this quest that requires you to go into a territory which is notorious for creatures that are named slimes."

"It's not an easy quest I presume." I stared at her seriously.

"I don't know." she answered while giving me that devious smile.

Without much to go by, I accepted the quest, hoping that it would at least let me come back to the guild and rest at home early; how wrong I was hours later.

"These slimes.." I huffed, trying to fend them off, "no one told me they were slimes with magic!"

Luck, a definition of benefit and chances for someone that is naturally not gifted, though what if I said that even with this ability that shouldn't be a skill, passive one at that, actually harms reputation and life of a user, well, that's what I always thought, but what if a goddess were to mess with a person's potential in life.

"What is this?" I looked in surprise while picking up an item a particular slime dropped.

It glowed dimly before flashing brightly and disintegrating, next the particles flowed around before forming into what looked to be, yes, a person that seemed like a female elf out of any other races out there in this vast world.

"Are you the one they call Velvet?" The elf stayed in a statue-like state while questioning.

"Yes, I am," I gave a swift response, "how do you know me?"

The woman stood in place, almost looking as if she was about to frown, before giving me an answer, "Well, how would you react if I gave you that luck ability?"

I also went into a statue like state after hearing that, hard to believe though that an elf that was inside an item that was in that slime and suddenly appeared just to tell me she's the reason why I got promoted, and who took the peaceful days away from me.

"So it was you!" I said before dashing at her with rage, which failed once I got knocked down by an unknown force that pushed me.

"Wait just a moment, before you go on about attacking me because I gave you an ability on accident, how about we go someplace nice and I can explain to you about this incident." she said as she teleported us to a magical space a second later.

"Wow! this is so.. Weird." I gave an honest opinion about the place.

"Don't call my sanctuary weird!" she pouted before proceeding to lightly karate chop my head.

"Joking, but who are you exactly?" I questioned while putting my finger on my lips, a habit of mine that I rarely do unless I'm actually curious.

"I am a goddess of this world!" she proudly pronounced.

"So you're not a useless one?" I jokingly said, and got hit again, but more or less painfully, "I'm sorry." I cried fake tears.

Once again. Luck is a form of benefit to anyone, but the way that chances are presented to be one hundred percent, it can either direct it to be a good outcome or a bad one at that. Much to the dismay of a passive ability that shouldn't have existed in the first place.

Don't know how auxiliary works, but this is volume one of chapter one as of now, so I'm not sure if I'm doing something right! but I hope you liked this chapter even if it was a short one!

If you did. ><
