Let's Make a Bet!

Aron decided to search for another job in the village. Roger didn't have many tasks for him and farming could be done inside of space.

The first choice was going to the carpenter, sculpting was basically related to carpentry in some way. Previously, his goodwill was rejected due to his body state. Currently, his body was stronger and getting a job shouldn't be a problem.

Carpenter was focused on his work and didn't notice an approaching white-haired boy.

"Good morning." Aron decided to be courteous and greeted him.

"Good morning…Ohh, it's you! What do you want?" His attitude immediately changed as he discovered that it's village beggar.

"The same reason as before! I am looking for work. I was weak and malnourished last time. Look at me now? Do I fit to work with you?" It was a little provocation from him, man rejected him once and made him angry.

Appraisal displayed interesting information about man and his personality.

[Name: John]

[Race: Human]

[Tittle: Big-eyed John.]

[Profession: Carpenter]

[Attributes: STR 1, DEX 1.4, END 1, INT 0.8, PER 1, CHA 0.8, ART 1]

[Traits: Calm, Greedy]

[Talents: None]

[Skills: Woodworking, Cooking, Cleaning, Unarmed Fighting, Handiwork]

'You are weaker than me. Try to reject me, asshole!' It was annoying if someone weaker than you talking about your weaknesses.

"I don't know. You don't know shit about carpentry. Forget about it and stop wasting my time!" Having a worker without any experience required to constantly control his actions. Teaching, managing his work would waste a lot of time and nerves. John decided to straightforwardly refuse without longer consideration.

'Do you mock my knowledge? I have higher intelligence. Let's rely on his greed to convince him.'

"Let's make a bet. I will work for you for a week. After a week passes, you will judge if I am useful or not. Obviously, what is a bet without stakes? If I win you will allow me to work and provide me some materials. Otherwise, I will compensate you with chicken from Roger's farm. So? Do you agree?" The boy said with a smirk on his face.

Many people could eat meat only once for the entire year, so offer like this was extremely tempting. Another thing was a free worker for a week. Greed overcame his prejudice against a boy and he agreed.

"Ok. You bet is interesting. I don't want to be in your skin when you try to cheat me!" He exclaimed while dreaming about chicken's meat, little of his saliva escaped his mouth.

His first task was simple chopping the wood for fuel. People without the capability to go and get wood by themselves exchanged with a lumberjack. The village had only John, so he needed to perform two wood-related professions.

Chopping was a simple job, using a hatchet to split wood into two or more parts.

[Chopping Skill generated. Chopping lv.0(12/1000)]

Getting skill was quite predictable and he only waited for notification. It was time to get a new profession, however, nothing appeared.

'Where is my new profession? Lumberjack? Carpenter? Anything?'

[Every profession has its own prerequisites and requirements. A host needs to fulfill conditions before getting a new job.]

This continued for three hours, and finally, he got a new notification.

[Lumberjack profession unlocked. Do you wish to activate it?]

'Stop asking every time. Activate it automatically.'

'What?'

[Kidding! You are still online!]

'…'

Two days of chopping wood allowed to level up related skills and profession. It wasn't enough, he needs more professions to increase his intelligence. John's job was to process logs into planks, bodies for tools and segregating wood by quality.

Carpenter left to eat dinner and boy remained to finish his task. It was the best occasion to try to get the right skills. A decision was right, he got a notification and became satisfied.

'System you are not fuckin fair about skills! You cheated me!'

'Yeah. I wouldn't get personal space.'

[Professions: Farmer lv.4(2K/25K), Lumberjack lv.2(1K/5K), Carpenter lv.0(1/5K)]

'I will surpass this greedy bastard in no time. The only problem is my terrible sense of art…'

[It's not terrible. It's just nonexistent.]

A promised week passed and John couldn't complain about Aron's performance. His assistance made finish his assignments faster and more efficient. Carpenter even gave him some pieces of advice about techniques and materials. Guidance allowed him to gain proficiency points even faster,

"Ok…ok. You win...I can't complain about your work. We finished things that would take me month…Take materials, you need. Don't be greedy!" At least he had balls to admit defeat, Aron took some Yew wood logs and couple planks to fill holes in his hut and left.

His farming area was constantly sown and harvested. Farming flax, black wheat, and some local bizarre vegetables secured his problems with a food source.

The new problem arose as plants couldn't be used as they were harvested, he needed to process them into grains and materials. Black wheat stalks were separated into grains and hay.

'Should I build some primitive tools to process those plants? I should focus on job-related to intelligence.'

The most educated person in the village was chief, he could read and write. He was resolving all disputes between inhabitants and could heal people with herbal mixtures. All problems were taken to the village chief, from small fights to decapitated arms.

'I should convince him to teach me. It's late today, let's go tomorrow.'

The plan to fix his hut was postponed as well, it couldn't be just fixed. Supporting beams were rotten and building could collapse at any moment. Rebuilding could wait, as getting his memories back and improving strength was more significant.

Working at carpentry improved his fame in village, it opened some work opportunities for the future. A boy offered to help owners of bigger farms in exchange for seeds, copper items, and knowledge.

Many people couldn't accept reality, where useless trash was better at farming than them. Some of them were guilty of their past actions and tried to apologize, however, the boy didn't care about their past or current decisions.

[Farmer level up. Farmer lv.5(3K/50K)]

'1 point every 5 levels. My professions have a limit of the cap of 10. It makes every profession gives me 2 AP and 2 SP.'

Change of reputation removed his title of white trash. Blacksmith still tried to oppress him, however, he didn't force people into any actions. Some of his friends stayed in opposition against boy, thought their stupidity didn't matter for Aron at all.

Households without men were in the worst situation, boy decided to help them without material remuneration. Knowledge about weaving and cooking was good enough for free proficiency points. Another thing was establishing connections, they could work for him later. Their children would remember fact of his assistance in dire times.

'I don't need to get everything in seconds. This body is 11 years old, I have an entire life to live.'

Village chief came back from sick patient, so Aron decided to take advantage of this fact. House of this old man was in center of the village. The most eye-catching was an herbal garden, multiple kinds of plants cultivated in medical purposes.

Knock. Knock. Creak! Doors opened and an old man destroyed my life appeared, his hair and beard were gray as ash. A person had long baggage of experience on his back and Aron wanted to learn all his tricks.

"Hello, village chief." White haired kid greeted chief with curtesy.

"Welcome, little Aron. What brings you here?" Carl was caressing beard while scanning his new visitor.
