4 New life, even though I'm lazy!

"So, 129 years, that... that's going to take me a while."

"Say, system, can you tell me what situations caused me to gather the most Ep yesterday?"

[Yes, that is possible. The highest amount of Ep on average was gained from your sense of touch. The largest amount gained in one sitting was when you went over all of your organic chemistry notes from school. You gained about 20.3 Ep from this.]

"Hmm... So just based on some quick math in my head, even if I was to study all day every day, at most I would gain the necessary points in around 50 years."

Clearly, I am going to have to do something else to increase the amount of Ep I gain every day. But what could I do?

(AN: Annoyingly enough, I switch between thinking and speaking out loud seemingly at random. Get used to it. That is how I function.)

Well then, what could I do? "I could try increasing my intelligence and make it easier for me to learn things. Or perhaps, based on how my sense of touch gained me so many points, if I was to increase the power of all my other senses, I would also gain a lot more Ep?"

"Nah, that would be literal torture. If my brain can't handle the senses, I will experience sensory overload. That already happens every now and then with my sense of touch, why would I do that to all my other senses as well?"

"I mean, I can count myself as lucky among autistic people all things considered. I rarely experience sensory overload, unlike some who can't go outside or do anything without wearing earphones in the hope that it will be quieter."

Anyway, what could I improve that will allow me to earn points more easily? Well, I could make my physical health better. This will allow me to focus more on studying, instead of being concerned about my physical well being. Or I could increase my ability to stay focused on a task, as currently, it is at a pretty low level.

[Inacurrate, it is currently at

{concentration on a random thing: medium

concentration on something important to you: high

concentration on something important in life: low}]

"Well, that's not too bad. It also makes sense. I mean, I have completely analyzed every part of my brain in the hopes that I could figure out a way to fix it, so it is understandable why that is high. And I do watch more youtube than actual studying, so that explains the other two."

"So perhaps if I upgrade the final one? Or maybe upgrade my ability to choose what I stay focused on, so I don't spend Ep in the wrong places. I mean, intelligence is great and all, but it's useless if I can't stay focused on what I want to learn. Same with my physical ability, I am just too damn lazy to keep on doing it."

Actually, that also always bugged me about those web novels. How the hell does a person who is really lazy suddenly become really active just because they have a system?! Honestly, perhaps the system is right, they are being manipulated in some way. I know I'm not, but maybe others are.

Anyway, so it is decided, that for now, I shall be spending my Ep on my ability to choose what I focus on. Using this, I can then study more easily and earn Ep more easily that way! It will also allow me to ignore the side effects of my autism more easily, as I can put less focus on the problems autism causes. For instance, I can focus more on how people act every day, and so make it easier to understand how other people act, and how I should act in return!

"System, how much Ep do I have?"

[150.07 Ep]

"And how much would it cost to upgrade my ability to focus?"

[1 second of staying focused on a subject of the hosts choice before becoming distracted by their own thoughts or feelings or other such things is 1 Ep. The amount of time the host can stay focused is subject to change depending on what the host is being distracted by, and the mental strength(AN: How much you can be bothered dealing with) of the host.]

"Alright, not too expensive. That all also makes sense. How about outside influences then?"

[Outside influences, such as other people, a bright spot of sunlight, or a loud sound, would change depending on your current mental strength, and how much it would normally bother you by.]

[Because of this, the system will rate each outside influence on a level, and Ep can be used to upgrade your ability to not become distracted on this level.]

"That sounds... Like a really good deal," said George.

"Indeed, it does," said George in a higher pitched voice.

"But I think I it would be smarter to spend most of my points on just inside influences, as the effect it would have on my brain would mean that it would be more difficult for me to be distracted by outside influences as well." Said George in a low pitched tone.

[That is accurate Host. however, to account for this, the Ep cost will continue to increase so as to make sure the rest of our brain doesn't fall behind. And if your brain becomes too powerful, your body must also become stronger to keep up with the cost of running your brain.]

"So basically, I can't maximize the level of any ability without maximizing everything else too. Or at least, everything has to have a similar level."

[Mostly correct. Your ability to sense blood in water is terrible in comparison to what the host's memories of sharks say sharks can do. However, that would only need to be leveled up if, let's say, your sense of smell was leveled up too far. That is assuming that sharks find blood in water through their nose.]

"Huh. Neat."

"Okay then system, spend all of my current Ep on my ability to focus!"

[System understands. Spending 150.07 Ep on the ability to focus on what the host wants to focus on at any point in time, without being distracted by internal thoughts.]

"So how good is my ability to focus now?"

[The host can now stay focused for 1 minute on a subject of their choosing, at the minimum when the host's brain is at its most distracting point by internal thoughts, and at the maximum, on average, the host can stay focused for 1 hour, before becoming distracted by a thought of some form.]

"Awesome! That is great! So, I suppose I'll go ahead and study for 1 hour then! That will be useful!"

"Also, what was my ability to stay focused before like?"

[3 hours. The Ep was spent on balancing your brain so that no matter the subject chosen, you would stay just as focussed as if you were studying something really enjoyable.]

[The difference between an enjoyable subject and a boring one, is the amount of time it will take the host to convince himself to regain his attention.]

"I'm... worse than before?!"

[Ep + 0.5]
