Chapter 1

"He can see you now, Miss Virgil." The secretary behind the desk smiled at me. "Just go through that door there." She motioned towards a frosted glass door.

I locked my phone and stuffed it back into my bag, before quickly standing to my feet.

"Thank you." I smiled at her slightly, trying to hide my nervousness. I took a deep breath, before turning the handle and walking into the office. My eyes widened as I looked around. The room was beautiful. On one side of the long room was a sitting area with a leather couch and armchairs, which probably cost more than my yearly rent, along with a plasma TV and a beautiful coffee table. There was even a small cabinet filled with, what I could only assume, expensive bottles of alcohol.

"One moment." The man behind the desk on the side of the room spoke up, looking at his monitor, his face blocked by it. My eyes scanned that part of the room. I was awestruck at how beautiful this room was. My eyes slowly drifted towards the window, or should I just call it a wall, that looked out over the city. I would kill for a view like this, but instead, I got to see, well, a brick wall. I looked over at the wall opposite the window.

Seems like he's a man who enjoys the female form. I thought to myself as I stepped closer to the painting. It shows the back of a woman, her large behind beautiful painted. I envied the artist's abilities. My mind slowly drifted off, thinking about the portraits Alder used to do of me. I never wanted him to show people, but I knew they were too beautiful to hide. We had such good times; I still can't believe how things turned out.

"Do you like it?" I was snapped back to reality. I looked up at the man with wide eyes. He was only a few inches away from me now. He was ever more attractive than I could have imagined. His features were chiseled, and even though he was very clean-cut and professional, he had a bit of stubble which made him all that more attractive. My heart started to beat faster as I looked up at him. He raised an eyebrow. "Are you going to say something? Or are you a mute?"

"N--no. I'm sorry." I tried to smile. "I...was just lost in thought."

"Over my painting?"

"I...kind of. It's beautiful."

"She is." He nodded in agreement. "Come." He motioned for me to follow as he walked over to the couch and chairs. He sat down on the couch. "Sit." He motioned for me to sit down in the chair next to him. I sat down and crossed my legs, not wanting our knees to touch.

"Your name." He spoke firmly. He wasn't asking my name; he was making it clear that I was going to tell him it. His tone sent a shiver down my spine.

"Lili. Well...Lilian, but only my parents call me that."

"Marco. Wolfe." He tilted his chin up; I couldn't help but glance down at his lips. I had to tear my mind from where it wanted to go.

"It is nice to meet you, Mr. Wolfe." I smiled slightly.

"You came for the job if I am not mistaken."

"You are not." I nodded. "I am in need of a job, and I think it would be the perfect position for me."

"Do you have experience?" He leaned back into the couch.

"Not professional, per se. But I have five younger siblings, and I babysat often."

"I see. And why do you want this job?"

"Well, why does anyone want one? Because they need the money." I smiled slightly, not sure if a joke was a good idea. At his lack of smile, or well, anything, I cleared my throat. "I...I need to be able to pay for school. And the fact you need a live-in nanny makes it perfect. I...just lost my job and can't afford a place to live right now. I'm in a motel currently."

"How do you intend to take care of my son full time if you are going to school?"

"I do online classes, actually. So I'll take care of your son, and then whenever I have free time, I will work on my schoolwork."

"You will have many responsibilities. You will clean, you will cook, you will take care of my son, but most importantly," he leaned forward, his hand slipped onto my knee, "you will do anything and everything that I ask of you. Are we clear?"

My heartbeat got even faster. I didn't know if it was the way he told things, rather than asking, or maybe it was his hand on my knee, or maybe even both, but I felt something I had never felt before. I couldn't describe it with words. If only I could get him to keep his hand there while I painted a quick picture. "Yes--yes, sir." I mustered the best response that I could.

"Good. I will give you my address. I want you there tonight with all your things."

I nodded, looking at him with wide eyes still.

"And I certainly hope you have better clothes than what you are wearing." He crossed his arms over his chest, removing his hand from my leg.

"I...do not." I rubbed the back of my neck. "I'm a bit too broke to be able to afford anything nice. My wardrobe consists of ripped jeans and t-shirts covered in paint. This is actually the only skirt I own."

He sighed deeply. "Rose!" His yelling caused me to jump slightly.

The door was shortly opened by the receptionist. "What can I do for you, Mr. Wolfe?"

"Cancel the rest of my appointments for today."

"Yes, sir." She nodded. "Anything else?"

"Have my car pulled around." He stood up.

She nodded again before leaving the room, closing the door behind her.

I stood up as well, unsure of what was going on. "Mr. Wolfe?"

"A moment." He walked back over to his desk. "Come here." He grabbed out a folder. "This should contain everything you need to know. Also, get your phone out."

I grabbed my phone from my bag, unlocking it, before handing it to him. He reached for it, but accidentally dropped it, causing it to fall to the ground. The phone skidded away from us. I turned around and bent over to pick it up.

"Oops." Mr. Wolfe spoke casually.

I grabbed it, inspecting the screen. "It's alright!" I turned back to face him again.

He had his arms crossed over his chest and was smirking.

I sighed as it hit me. "If you wanted me to bend over, just ask next time."

"Some very nice underwear you have, Miss Virgil."

I rolled my eyes. "I'm glad you're so fond of them. Now. Did you actually want my phone or not?"

"I did." He grabbed it from me. "If I call or text, you will reply. I don't care what you're doing, you will reply."

I nodded, unsure if this was something I really wanted to get myself into. He's going to be a strict boss, that's for sure.

"Come on." He handed my phone back to me. I stuffed it and the folder into my bag and followed after him as he walked out of his office. We walked into the elevator and started to descend. "You look nervous." Mr. Wolfe raised an eyebrow at me.

"I...have a fear of elevators." I rubbed my arm.

"Then I will try to not call you to my office too often."

I smiled slightly. "Thanks."

The elevator stopped and he began walking again, towards the front of the building.

"Nice to see you, Mr. Wolfe." One of the men at the door handed him a set of keys. "Have a good day." He smiled at him and held the door open for us. We both walked out and stopped in front of a bright orange car.

I stared at the car in awe. "Is that a McLaren 650S?"

"How did you know that?" He looked over at me.

"My older sister-her fiancé use to race one." I smiled slightly. "Is it really your daily driver?"

"No. But today was a nice day and I wanted to take it." He walked around to the driver's side and opened his door, getting in.

I slowly opened my own door and crawled in.

"Where are you from? Where is your family?" He glanced over at me as he drove onto the road.

"Denver. That's where most of my family is, but my sister is in Pennsylvania."

"If you need money and lodging so badly, why don't you you go back home? Obviously online classes don't have to be taken in a certain state."

"Well, no, they don't. But even if I were to go back, I'd just be more of a burden. My parents are separated. My mom raises my siblings and my dad...lives in another state drunk off his ass everyday. Even if I got a job and helped pay for things again, I'd just be another mouth to feed. Besides...as selfish as it sounds, I don't want to go back. Since I was a little kid I was always the mother to my younger siblings, since my parents were never home. I'm happy to be able to not have to deal with that."

"Why are you living out here in that case?"

"My ex. We moved out here together. But things didn't work out, and now I have nothing to my name. Which is where you come in."

"I see." He nodded. "Do you have a boyfriend now?"

"No." I shook my head. "I don't even have friends who live here."

"Good to know that you won't be busy." He looked down and grabbed a pair of sunglasses before putting them on.

"So, where are we going?"

"Shopping." He smiled as he revved the car.

----

"Are you seriously going to stay in here the whole time?" I crossed my arms, looking over at Mr. Wolfe, who was sitting in one of the chairs in the dressing room, casually checking his phone.

"I am. If I am paying for the clothes, I have the right to see them on you beforehand."

"I don't disagree, but do you really need to be in the dressing room with me? Can't I just come out and show you?"

"This isn't…" He looked up at me as he was trying to find the word he wanted. "Target. You don't just come out in front of the whole store."

I sighed. "Alright. Fine. Point taken." I picked up one of the skirts and dropped my pants before slipping it on. I zipped the zipper up before turning to face him. "What do you think?"

He tilted his chin up slightly. "Turn around."

I did as asked and turned around, glancing over my shoulder at him.

"Bend over."

I rolled my eyes, before bending over.

"I'm surprised your ass didn't bust the zipper. I like it, though."

"I...am surprised you canceled the rest of your day to take me shopping."

"If you are to be my nanny, you must look the part. After we finish here, we will go get you some makeup as well; the bare face is not going to work where I live."

I nodded uncertainly.

----

"I--I can't thank you enough, Mr. Wolfe. These things...no one has ever done this kind of thing for me." I looked over at him, setting arms full of bags down onto the ground.

"I told you. I only did it because you need to look nice if you're working for me." He crossed his arms over his chest.

I rubbed the back of my neck. His tone was cold and made me cringe slightly. In the car, he seemed pleasant, more so than now. "So, when will I get to meet your son?"

"Now." I followed him into a room. I looked around. It was a large playroom, with every toy imagined and on the far side, a window that looked out on the city. This place had a hell of a view.

"Mr. Wolfe?" A young girl stood up. She seemed to be around my age, if not a bit younger. She was holding a small boy in her arms. I could only guess he was probably three or four.

"How was he?" Mr. Wolfe walked over to the girl and picked his son up from her arms.

"Daddy!" The boy smiled at him, wrapping his arms around his neck. I smiled slightly, seeing how much kinder Mr. Wolfe was around his son.

"He was an angel." The girl smiled. "Is this your new nanny?"

"Yes." He nodded.

"Hi." She walked over to me. "I'm Kendall. I'm Marco's neighbor. I've been watching Lark while he was searching for a new nanny."

"Lili." I smiled at her, shaking her hand. "It's nice to meet you."

"You too. I look forward to seeing you around. I'm going to go, Marco."

He nodded. "I owe you dinner one night."

"I'll hold you to it." She smiled before walking out of the room.

"She seems nice." I stepped closer to Mr. Wolfe.

All the warmth melted from his face, as he set his son down and turned to face me. "I'll show you the room you'll be staying in."

----

I sighed, braiding my hair and getting ready to go to bed. Mr. Wolfe was certainly a complicated man. Sometimes he was kind and joked, but then he would quickly become serious and distant. And that's only the first day.

There was a slight knock on my door before it was opened. Mr. Wolfe walked into the room. He wore only pajama pants. My eyes scanned over his broad, toned chest. I bit my lip. I couldn't think about my boss that way.

"How are you liking your room?" He raised an eyebrow.

"It's amazing." I stood up from the bed.

A smirk grew on his face. "You're thinking about me, aren't you?"

How would I not? You're standing in front of me shirtless with the hottest smirk on your face. "Of course not." I crossed my arms again.

He stepped closer. His hand first touched my stomach, running up before cupping my breast. He just stood there, smirking down at me, showing me that he was winning.

I grabbed onto his wrist.

"I told you. Your job entails doing everything I ask."

"Sir." I tried, my heart beating even faster. I hadn't even known him for a day and I...I felt something. Something I couldn't put my finger on. I wanted him. I wanted him to pull my shirt off and kiss me. To walk me over to the bed and fuck me all night long. But I didn't know if this was a good idea.

A phone began to ring. He pulled it out of his pajama pants before looking down at it. He sighed, stepping back. He walked out of the room without another word. I looked down at the ground, sighing. I had no idea what had just happened. Was he going to kiss me? Why did I even want him to?
