4 Ring

It is the only word that I have managed to say.

And to be honest here, I have no fucking clue what the fuck is actually going on.

I am really just going with the flow at the moment.

Even so, from the description, becoming an Engineer sounds like fun, and the mentioning of [Wisdom] and [Constitution] further implies that this is a game of sort.

Great. I love games. Only because games follow a set of rules, and if I understand the rules, I can win.

It is as simple as that.

I wonder what the down side to becoming an Engineer is, but then again, what do I have to lose right now? Aside from my life and freedom, of course.

It might actually be better if I die. Maybe then, I will not be blamed for so many deaths. Nah. I will still get the blame anyway. Society is screwed up like that, and they do need a scapegoat. Me.

Good thing that my parents are long dead. Bad thing that I still have some important people in my life.

People who will be depressed if I do not come back alive.

I play with the engagement ring on my finger for a bit before looking at all the trees and sands in sight, pondering how long until someone finally comes and rescues me.

It might be days. Weeks or months.

Hopefully not years.

I will go insane by then. Probably. No, it is more likely that this is a deserted island. If it is now, someone should have come and check out the crash site by now.

After a bit more debates with myself, I let out a heavy sigh and accept the promotion.

The scroll immediately furls itself and bursts into flames right before my eyes, burning brightly under the midday sky.

I have thought that the scroll is not flammable yet here it is, burning quickly and reducing itself to ash.

When its ashes scatter along the gentle breeze that washes inshore from the surging seas, I feel a little bit different. Something has changed inside but I am not sure what.

My eyes continue to follow the ashes until sixteen items burst into existence all around me.

Being startled at their appearances, I flip back and ready to defend myself with whatever martial arts that I have picked up here and there. Mostly Judo.

A new notification within my mind tells me that these are gifts for promoting to an Engineer, so I can finally relax and let the gifts teleported in from somewhere.

Once the items fully materialized, I begin examining them. There are 15 bottles in total. Three different glowing colors, red, blue and green. With Identify trigger word, I learn that they are potions.

Reds are Health Potions, blues are Mana Potions, and greens are Stamina Potion.

Easy enough, considering they are similar to several video games that I have played.

I look upwards to see if I have a health bar hovering above my head. There isn't. I also check below to make sure there isn't one as well. Oh well. Good, to be honest. It would be strange, otherwise.

There is also a cube amongst the potions. It looks like a Rubik Cube but with metallic on all sides. There are also symbols on each side, needing to be realigned since they are jumbled up.

Just out of curiosity, I turn the sides of the cube to match up the symbols. The cube lets out whizzing sounds when I manage to complete a side successfully. Oh. I should have identified it first.

"Identify."

[Artefact (Unknown)]

That is all the information it gives me, and it is not completely useless. This cube is an artefact of sort, and artefact is usually super rare in game. Therefore, I should solve the puzzle.

It takes me seconds to align three of the six faces of the cube. It is pretty easy since I am familiar with Rubik Cube. It takes significant more time to align the fourth face. 10 minutes more to align the fifth and sixth face.

Nope. I fuck up them up. Damn.

By that point, I decide to have a drink from my crude distillation device. It has made enough drinking water to last me for the rest of day. That is not nearly enough, as I do not want to keep making drinking water every day, thus the more is the better.

Once I have quenched my thirst, I return to the task of solving the Rubik Cube and solve it within the next handful of seconds or so.

There is a method to solve the Rubik Cube perfectly each time, but it has been so long since I have my hands on one, thus I totally forgot the method.

Oh well. I have managed to solve it pretty quickly, so that is all that matter.

The instant the faces on the cube are perfectly aligned, the square at the center of each face retreats inwards, revealing a ring inside. And soon, the cube itself crumbles into useless metal shards, leaving the ring hovering in the air.

Not hovering. More like suspending in air.

"Identify."

I quickly learn that is an "Engineering Suite" of sort. It allows me to do some engineering stuff without having already unlocked the skills and abilities for it. It is essential to new engineers.

That is the summary since the actual description of the ring is pretty lengthy, as it has many functions aside disassembling and assembling materials.

Oh. The ring also acts as a portable warehouse of sort. Cool. One ring to do them all!

I immediately pick the ring up and put it on my finger. The middle finger simply because, and I wish I has not been so hasty.

The instant that it is on my finger, the ring glows and constricts around my finger quite painfully. And to my horror, it sinks straight into my finger, leaving a glowing band behind.

Lines began to spread out from the glowing band, running down my fingers like some sort of veins.

And it hurts! Fucking hurts! Oh shit!

The numerous lines soon run over my palm, wrist and then up my shoulder, interlocking and forming all sort of patterns and rings. Once they finish giving me a tattoo, they stop glowing and settle down.

I stop gripping my shoulder afterwards and pant heavily. What the hell!?

"What the fucking hell!?"

I shout and punch the ground in frustration. Trying to stop the painful pulsation all over my hand and arm as well. It seems to work.

[1 Sand Obtained!]

Eh?

[1 Sand Obtained!]

[2 Sand Obtained!]

[1 Sand Obtained!]

[1 Sand Obtained!]

[2 Sand Obtained!]

[1 Sand Obtained!]

"Okay. That is something," I utter and began punching thing with my right hand, obtaining the things as some sort of building materials. Weird. Weird but interesting.
