The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

"He could have warned me," Erik was still tense.

"He's not very bright," Savannah chuckled.

That chuckle seemed to loosen the man up. She was the only one on the street who was making any noise.

"I can go check out the wyverns to the south after my mana regenerates tomorrow," I shrugged off his tension choosing to ignore it, "Can I fly out directly from here, or do you want me to go outside first?"

"It would be a bad idea for you to fly out from here," Erik crossed his arms a bit defensively, "We have a plasma dome over the guild. You'd get badly burned in the process."

"Which way to the gate then?" I turned my full focus on Erik.

He froze up when I locked eyes with him. I hadn't intended to stun him so I tried to suppress the effect of my eyes. It worked, and he relaxed noticeably, but he didn't appear to want to be near me anymore.

"Just go down the main road," Erik pointed down the biggest road, "You can't miss it."

I nodded, and started walking. People avoided me as I walked down the street. It was better then them trying to attack me. I looked around to the people around me discreetly, and decided that I didn't want to be stared at any more then necessary. I tensed before taking off at my top speed.

I was fast enough to make a weak speed ability user look slow. Sure I wasn't able to use my full speed in my human form, but I was incredibly fast compared to a normal human. The vast majority of people on the street didn't see me rush past. If it weren't for the way I disturbed the wind they wouldn't even know I was passing them. I skidded to a stop not far from the gate.

My clothes rippling in the wind as it caught up to me. It must have looked like I appeared out of nowhere to the guards watching the gates. They didn't recognize me at first glance or I doubt they would have spoken to me in the manner they did.

"What the hell are you doing?" the one that was in charge yelled at me, "Ability use is restricted to the training halls."

"That wasn't an ability," I wanted to snarl, but they hadn't done anything to deserve my rage.

"That was a speed ability or teleportation stupid," he approached me quickly with an aggressive stride.

"Stupid," My voice deepened slightly as my teeth sharpened, "Go talk to your boss before I decide to bury your head in the concrete."

My eyes turned more draconic. He took a few steps back as his hand went to his weapon. This irritated me even further. My muscles tensed up. I knew he was going to strike.

I didn't care. His weapon felt weak. I growled slightly. Pulling my lips back from my sharpened teeth. He struck with a decent amount of speed.

The blade hit my throat with pretty good accuracy. It bit into my flesh about as deep as a scratch. Causing a small amount of blood to run down my neck. I locked eyes with him. I expected him to become stunned like the other times I'd locked eyes with people.

This time it was different. One eye rimmed with blue, and the other was rimmed with brown. His body relaxed visibly.

"Sheath your sword," I ordered, and he complied willingly.

Stunning all the tense men behind him.

"I don't like this," I mumbled as my irritation evaporated, "Go to sleep."

My body slowly turned more human. The guy collapsed. I caught him by the back of his armor so he wouldn't hit the ground face first. Setting him down gently before turning my attention back to the others. The others had tensed a great deal.

"He's not dead," I backed away a few steps.

They all had their weapons out now. I didn't blame them. I'd just knocked out one of their guys without touching him. I wanted to spread my wings, and go tear through a few beasts.

"You should just let me go," I warned.

Two of them rushed me at once. I caught their weapons before they could touch me. The blades scratched up my hands. I clenched my hands. Not trying to break the blades, but wanting to lock them in place so they couldn't strike at me again.

One of the blades broke anyway. I yanked on the blade that didn't break, and grabbed the front of that guys armor with my now free hand. Picking him up by the breastplate with one hand as if he weighed nothing, and throwing him at the other two. They dropped their blades so they wouldn't cut the man that was suddenly flying at them. One guy took the full brunt of the hit.

The other managed to avoid the brunt of the attack. Getting clipped on the arm as the guy I'd thrown flew past. The last guy standing rushed me.

"You're not very bright are you," I grabbed his helmet, and it bent a little when I squeezed, "I'm stronger, and faster then you."

I stopped talking when I felt the effect of his ability. My vision swam as I grew dizzier, and dizzier the longer I was touching him. I shoved him, and stumbled back a few steps. The dizziness didn't go away when I broke contact. I swayed on my feet.

I felt like I was on a boat in the middle of a storm, and blinking rapidly wasn't helping. A large part of me wanted to return to my true form, and use all fours to stabilize myself. I wasn't stupid enough to do that without the guild leaders permission. He'd already let me wander off on my own, and I'd already picked a fight. I hadn't hurt any of them badly yet.

"Look," I stumbled to the side with my arms out wide, "I just want to go outside. No need to do anything stupid."
