Infinite growth of material consumption in a finite world is an impossibility.

Next week in school I learned a lot of new things, since I had the memories of the other timeline from 2019, I already knew all the coursework that I would have actually paid attention to and didn't remember any of the chemistry and the parts of physics that I didn't like. So the classes that I liked became boring and the ones I didn't become torturous. Which is how I ended up in the middle of Math class staring at Nebula daydreaming when the teacher called me thrice and I didn't notice. I did notice though when he threw the piece of chalk he was writing on the blackboard with and I reflexively caught it. The purple energy flooded my body in response to a fight or flight reaction that got triggered and I leapt up from my chair knocking it back. Now I was standing in the back of the class, not knowing what was happening while the girls were quietly giggling and the guys were just laughing out loud. All of this didn't affect Sunny in the least who was sitting behind me with his head on the desk, still sleeping. Mr Pryor, the math's teacher then told me to come up and solve the problem on the board. Now I was still in a daze and didn't realize he hadn't started teaching this kind of math problem yet, and so I went up and solved it quickly. Then I put the chalk on his table and turned around to see everyone staring at me gobsmacked and then it hit me.

I turned to Mr Pryor and said: "I guess You haven't taught us how to do this yet."

"You would be right in that regard Mr Nightshade, Now if you would care to enlighten the rest of the class why you weren't paying attention and if you don't want detention you can go ahead and also explain how you solved it to everyone."

"Well Sir you see I studied the entire 10th-grade and 11th-grade syllabus in December since I was told I might have to give an entrance test for joining the new class here and would need to study the first 2 chapters and I kinda liked the 1st chapter, so I went ahead and finished the rest of it since I didn't have anything else to do."

"That is good to know, So you will be sitting in the front row of the class for my classes and not disturb anyone, no slacking off on doing the classwork exercises either. Also, what were you doing while you weren't paying attention in class?"

"Sir I Uhh was Umm ..."

"Staring at Nebula like a love-struck puppy obviously" piped up Anna from the rightmost desk on the 1st row sitting next to Nebula and got punched by Nebula on her arm.

And the class roared with laughter as I turned red like a tomato and walked back to my desk to sit down with my head on my desk.

"Mr Nightshade aren't you forgetting something. Explain the solution for this problem and come sit on this empty desk in the front row" Mr Pryor said pointing at the desk on Nebula's left that was empty.

"Yes Sir" I spoke a little louder than needed and picked up my bag and books and came up to the desk and put it down and went to the board to explain all the steps and added a few that I had skipped over with the formulas used for them, Then went back and sat down on my newly assigned desk.

As soon as Mr Pryor left the class after the end of the period, I turned to my right brought out all my courage that my body held, held out my hand and said: "Hi, We haven't been officially introduced yet, My name is NightShade, my friends call me night".

Anna sitting next to Nebula laughed and caught my hand and said: " Hi Night, My name is Anna and this here shy one till she gets to know you and then starts to prefer to punch you is Nebula."

And this time Nebula blushed a little and smiled, A smile that according to me could launch a thousand ships, and said: "Hi Night, Nice to meet you."

I knew it then and there I was a goner no matter whether I knew the future or not, I had to try to be with her. A second spent apart from her would be a second of my life wasted. We continued to chat until the next lesson started.

That week during any free time I had in between classes or any other recess that I could get away from the guys, I spent with Nebula and her friends just talked about inane things, about the town and found out more about her and the new town that I was now living in.

That Thursday I got another opportunity I wanted. The 11th and 12th grades' boys were all playing together this week and only the ones interested and good at football were playing which included all the players from our inter-school team. The rest were all doing other activities. The last lesson of the day that was after the double PE was cancelled. It might not seem like it but a little over 3-hour long game of football gave enough time to test how my energy improved my skills with the dependence on distance and difference in actual physical ability. This is where I came to realize the crux of how my ability functions as there were so many players on the fields and the energy within my was flowing at a rate faster than I ever felt before. I also figured out the limitation of my ability, It wasn't as bad as I thought.

So here goes, My energy could scan anyone within 30-40 meters of me in a radius or a 100 meters if I concentrated on a single person in any single direction. Then The energy flowing through me would artificially raise all my physical capabilities to the level of any person or persons that were withing my scanning radius. It also kept healing the excessive amount of damage raising all my physical capabilities to such a level was causing. So there was a time limit to how long I could do this, 3-4 minutes at most, but here is the clincher, every time I did this my base capabilities would increase drastically to reach the levels that I was trying to copy. I was able to enter this forceful enhanced mode 10-15 minutes after coming out of it and during the last 2 hours of play I was doing it over and over again. It was tiring me out at an incredible rate, I was sweating like a pig and was in agonizing pain, but I kept going and reached a point, 15 minutes before the end of the 3rd period where I no longer needed to enter the forced enhanced mode. Well, to be honest, it's more like I discovered the weakness, I could only enhance myself to the limit of the best person I could scan at any given time. I could scan multiple people to get the best of each of their capabilities and copy all the amazing techniques they were using but I couldn't improve. I couldn't improve my physical capabilities unless I had someone better to scan at least once. Even normal exercise would have no effect after I reached the point of reaching the level of the best person I had scanned so far. Any skills I had learned were the same there was no scope of improvement unless I could scan someone better. My instincts were shouting at me from within my head I could be as good as the best I could find but no better. I still had one distinct advantage I could become the sum of the parts of different people with different specializations to be better than anyone else and I guess that would have to do, for now. ...

The short training-ish arc has begun. The pursuit to find the best parts to make a better whole.

The slice of life and a little bit of romance and what little comedy I can do will still keep on coming.
