26 26.Killing and ungratefulness

The direct transmissions were from streets and not only from the satellite. When Emma made new decisions and let her team use the city video cells for voice transmission as well.

The sounds that zombies made was a new shock to everyone in their homes. It was still scary but fine, while they watched the growing zombie tide, but now hearing the zombies how they growled and smacked their open mouths while running around was another level of fear.

Emma Thompson was suddenly shown in the commanding deck.

''Hello everyone. Today we finally have a direct connection to the voice as well. Like this, we will try to find more survivors. Those that we save will probably have natural anti genes in their DNA. But even if they can't tun into zombies they can still die. We will from now on try to save as many humans as possible that couldn't find shelter or a safe place to hide.''

She sighed deeply. ''We found out that in the last couple days the virus indeed stopped being infectious, but still those soldiers we send out will wear full uniform and mask so we don't take any chances. When we are sure that there is no more virus in the air we will start with zombie extermination. The teams that will fight the zombies will at first just be on our walls and kill them from here. Then we will start clearing a five-mile radius, ten-mile radius and so on. Anyone interested in joining our clearing team can come up and sign in. All the ones that sign up have to be on roll call anytime, so think carefully before sighing up. We accept all males and females, so don't be shy. We will all from now on fight for our new life, and for the survival of humanity. Have a safe day.''

After that, the videos showed a bunch of zombies approaching their outer walls and some of them now felt really fearful. If there is a breach and they are here inside, wouldn't they end up dead in no time?

So a crowd of people wanted to join in, but most of them had no idea how to even hold a gun. So all those were sent for basic training, while those who had some combat experience have put the uniform and masks on their faces and went to the walls to shoot at zombies.

In front of the group were Mario Santini and a strange gun he got from one of those weird science people. He turned around and through the mask, he spoke in a muffled manner.

''This is the newest gun on the market. It works on a laser beam base, but the battery is still in the early phase of research so they have to exchange for new ones every two hours. Do not overstep the time or this thing might just burn up or explode in ur hands. Understood?''

His warning made some people fearsome, but what they felt more fearsome is the thousands of zombies that already started gathering by the walls.

Their cries, grunts and mouth snapping gave them skin-crawling discomfort and fear. They carefully positioned themselves and started shooting.

The problem with human nature is that we feel somehow sympathetic to those that look like us.

Few people just looked at zombies and after a while went down from the walls.

''How can I shoot at people. I can't. You have so many scientists here. Can't you find the antidote and turn them back into humans?'' They came back and saw Emma Thompson at the first level.

Of course, they had to bother her as she checked some details with the group of soldiers that is about to leave the shelter and go to save some survivors.

When she heard the question, her eyes curved and she started laughing. Her loud laugh echoed in the space and now everyone stared in that direction.

''Oh... This is good. Let me do this live. I think others have similar thoughts. Hello everyone...''

She opened again main panels on the sealing of the levels.

With tears in eyes and smile on her face, she stood there and coughed. ''Sorry. I just heard the funniest thing ever. These few people...'' The video showed the few perplexed people standing behind her.'' ...were asking me why do I have to kill zombies and I should find a cure to turn them in humans. Hahahhahahaa. That ... is... absolutely... Impossible...''

She patted her chest as she tried to explain. Her breath became calmer so she inhaled now and her face became serious again.

''If there is a cure to death, we could become immortals. Those things outside...yes I said THINGS... these things are no longer humans anymore. Their bodies rot as their normal functions all died. You can treat them as soulless shells in human form that have only one urge... to feed on humans. Didn't you realize that they do not attack animals at all? Their DNA changed. One of many living beings will try anything they can to survive. In their DNA something changed that will make them want to eat live human to make their life longer. But, their body structure, blood, even brain functions have absolutely nothing to do with humans we know so far. I just have a fear that we won't be able to kill many of these on time before their DNA changes again and they become even scarier. Let's hope my prediction is wrong... I hope really...''

The shoulders dropped and she just shook her head. ''All I wanted was to save as many humans as I can. Those that can't handle my viciousness will be given a ride to any other shelter they want to go. I will not stop anyone. So many things to do... So many...''

As the voice echoed lighter and lighter in the air her tiny figure went into the escalator and she leaned on the handrail. ''Eight floor... I need rest...''

The video turned off and most of the people now felt a bit bad, but some still felt that she faked it.

''So what if she owns this place. It is our right to be here as citizens...'' One woman rampaged even on the street while everyone looked at her strangely.

One female officer came to her. ''Are you an official citizen of Aislin country?''

Snort could be heard and a cold laugh escaped woman's lips. ''Not that crazy. I came here because my lover made me come, but I don't want to be here with you all. Live in such a small space like some kind of commoner. My family is rich and I want to go to the other city shelter. She said we can leave...''

The young officer nodded. ''In that case, I will report it straight away and we will transport you as soon as possible to the other shelter. But the moment you leave our place you and anyone related to you can't ever come back. Do you understand, mam?''

Suddenly a few more people started complaining about their simple housings, food, clothes...

The female officers just wrote everything down and noted their complains and names. After that, she sent them back home with a smile and entered the escalator.

Inside her expression changed and her smile became icy. ''Do they think this is a private hotel?''

She went to the main office of the police force and asked for Chief Mailes.

''So you say they complain and want to go to the other sanctuary??? Are they stupid or what? Hah..'' He gave just one single cold laugh. ''Then let them. I will report to the Boss. Alisia you are doing a great job. Thank you for all your help so far.''

''No problem chief. I wanted to work with you for a long time but had no chance. Now we work for this person and I think she is my idol. Many of our female police officers are taking her as an example to be stronger and smarter. In today's world, that is the only way of survival.'' She saluted and left.

He sighed. This young one got dismissed as well after she found some police officers taking bribes from the mafia and reporting them.

Everything got scrambled under the carpet and she was accused of false accusation and dismissed without honors. The moment he was called by Emma Thompson, he had already set sight for many of his colleagues that were famous being clean and righteous.

Those people that wanted to change their sanctuary had no idea what is going on over there. Dumb as hell...

''Fine. Dismiss their family members and send them as soon as possible out. I don't need troublemakers here. I found some survivors in some buildings. We can try saving them. By the way, we need a plan for everyone. We can't keep lazy people around. No one should be jobless. Those that go out to shoot the zombies should be outside at least 8 hrs daily. Then they can be freed from actual work. Those that are inside, accept weak, very old people and small children will all need to work.''

''Yes mam. I will speak to Jack Hill. He probably has some idea as he was insinuating similar things the other day.'' After that, he spoke with Jack.

The stone rolled off for those people.

Emma was not a bad person, but if someone took her goodness and used it as wiping tissue she won't forgive. You want to go out, please, go... and don't come back...
