18 18. Closing the main gate

The clock ticked and Emma Thompson started to feel a bit nervous.

''That stupid idiot. Why does he have to do that by himself?'' She muttered while her pacing became faster.

Suddenly she could hear a noise outside. With quick steps, she walked out and saw helicopter arriving.

But the moment she saw driver her heard cooled down a bit.

It seems one of those people that were late came back on time.

The walls surrounding the ground of her state were already up. So the only way to enter at the present time was to fly over the wall.

The man opened the doors and woman with a big belly, two children and a few other people came out of the chopper.

He already knew about her and greeted her with respect.

''Hello miss Thompson. These are my wife, children, parents and a few cousins I could bring with me.'' He introduced them all.

She just nodded and one of the soldiers explained to him the newest procedures as it was yellow alert.

He just brought his people to the disinfection room without any protest and continued to the escalators after the procedure.

She sighed in relief. ''At least they don't make any disturbance.''

One of the soldiers was close and shook his head. ''This man wouldn't bring here anyone who could make trouble. I know one of his cousins that is a troublemaker and as I can see he didn't bring him with others. He carefully chose.''

Emma smiled at the soldier. ''I understand. I am glad that everyone chooses to think clearly about this. What will happen after this is still in the air? Let's hope that my predictions are wrong. Really...''

He nodded but his heart thumped heavily. It seems the situation will really turn ugly. Luckily he brought everyone he cared here.

Another sound could be heard and after landing, Mario jumped out and rushed to help others to descend from the vehicle. The emergency team was already waiting to pick up the old lady, dr Stavros and his assistants.

Already from far, Mario could see relief passing Emma's eyes. But she scrunched her eyebrows as she pointed at her watch.

He rushed to the pilot section and was about to call when he heard from far the sound of helicopter arriving.

''Finally.'' He felt a huge stone falling off his heart when the rest of the crew descended from the helicopter and their family members went through the disinfection as well.

The alarm sounded just moments after choppers were pulled inside and a huge door with big bang closed.

The last strands of sunlight fell one more time on Emma Thompson that patted her chest and took off the mask.

''Turn on the disinfection of this whole room.'' She commanded loudly and suddenly the room was sprayed evenly from all side and then the vacuum took the air out letting in pure air.

Everyone turned around in wonder and now questioningly looked at Emma Thompson.

She took a speaker and smiled. ''Today you can all take free time and spend it with your families. From tomorrow on you will be on full duty. And you don't need to worry and leave security personnel. What can happen if I just lock the whole level after all leave?''

They still felt uneasy but saw her smiling at them and all they could do is just go to visit their families while only Mario and Emma stayed in the huge space.

The sound of their shoes echoed in long hallways when she made a new order. ''Scan for living beings.''

A neutral voice answered the moment after. ''Commander Mario Santini and Emma Thompson on level one. Flies, mosquitoes, fleas and other insects could be found on level one. Disinsection proceed?''

Emma pulled Mario into escalator and when doors closed she ordered. ''Proceed with disinsection and purification.''

''Order received. Time until the task is done 10 minutes.'' The voice resounded and nothing else could be heard.

Mario curiously looked at her. ''What is purification?''

Emma sighed and pressed the ninth level. ''I will show it to you.''

They entered the ninth level that was filled with people that wanted to have some fun in their free day.

He stared at her in a strange way. ''Why did you put this place and commanding doc together.

She chuckled. ''I am a strange person. There are a bunch of young people that have amazing computer skills. In case of need, it's better to have them close so they can report as soon they finish their tasks.

''Computer freaks and army together?'' He was about to say something more but shut his mouth as he saw her eyes turning icy and her mouth turning into a sarcastic smile...

''You seem to forget one important thing, Commander. From now don't forget, the biggest computer freak and nerd stand in front of your eyes. Understood?''

She walked towards the commanding center and opened the door. At the moment it was completely empty and no sound from outside could be heard after she closed the door.

Space was huge. Filled with all kinds of boards, screens and computers.

She sat down on the middle seat that looked more like a lounge, took her shoes off, put a blanket over her feet and stared at him.

''Sit.'' she pointed at seat next to her.

He sat down not knowing what is going on and then she started commanding.

''Turn the screening of all levels.''

The screens started showing all levels accept hers where only the little house could be seen.

''Project the first level disinfection and purification.''

The 3 d picture started turning in front of them and they could see how first the mist was sprayed and then blue light started spreading trough whole floor.

Then the floor suddenly started changing. The huge wall started building up in mid of the first floor. In the first part were still machines for disinfection that ended up in the second part. Some of the vehicles were there, the helicopters and safety measurement first aid station as well.

''Why?'' He asked while he stared at the wall that closed space.

''In 24 hrs we will see many changes in the world. I found out some things by hacking some internal documents from different governments and made my own decision. Unfortunately, even if I asked them multiple times to listen to me no one did. So all I could do is to start this. You might think I am a fool but I prefer to turn into a small mole and hid in the hole than to be outside when things worsen. ''

She smiled while looking at Aisa that played with the tree female soldiers in front of the house.

He knew there was more behind that big wall, but to ask her would be unforgivable. So he just gave up.

''Project level two.''

He gasped. The level two was turned into two levels. The upper level was poultry and such and under level, pigs, sheep, goats and cows... The strange things are both levels had green grass, rivers, and huge space to walk around.

''Project level three.''

This time it was even more astounding. One side of the hall was filled with shelves filled with vegetables, then shelve with fruit threes and then shelves with all kind of grains.

The amount could literally feed people for a long time.

But the most amazing thing was the fishes that were swimming between aquatic plants and vegetables.

''Project level four.''

The city. It could contain millions of people but just a few thousand people lived here.

No cars, few bicycles, the high houses that reached the ceiling and the small hill where was the big park with all kind of birds and small sea.

The people had it all there. The walking possibility, fun and even go to drink as it had multiple bars, night clubs and dancing halls. There are theater, movie theater and even stage for singing competitions and similar she planned in the future.

They even had a big play and adventure parks and many other interesting things.

''Project level five''

It was split into two levels and had on each level houses that looked just the same. The people could go to storage and change their look if they wanted. the houses had gardens and anyone could plant their own vegetables under one condition. No waste. All that they had too much would be sent to the community eating halls.

''Project level six.''

The hills fille with all kinds of trees, rivers and animals.

The rule, for now, no killing of animals. Go eat in the eating hall.

''Project level seven.''

Huge fields and hills filled with all kinds of products and working people. Some children run around as they played, some women st there and just enjoyed their tranquility.

''Project level ten.''

The crowd of people in different age groups playing around. Most actually waited in roll for the virtual room where they could play for a half-hour each.

''Commander. This chair is mine. That is yours. Each of us will have our duties. Please don't make my life harder.'' She stated and stood up.

Mario just sighed while still staring at the projections. ''Miss. Thompson. It seems you put quite a thought into this all.''

''I did even more. But it's not time to explain. '' She looked at the projections and left him sitting there.

On the door, she turned around. ''The voice recognition works for you as well. If you want to stay here and check the information please eat something. I'll send you some food later on. And for God's sake don't forget to check the notebook I send you. It has so much information that you MUST know.''

He turned his head to her and just nodded. ''I know.''

She left him in deep thought. This place needs management. But then he smiled and looked ta the two chairs in the central position.

''By my side...'' He whispered as his eyes looked at the closed door...
