26 chapter 26

although I was mad, I had other things to worry about. like figuring out what stage of the apocalypse we were in.

we definitely weren't past 5 since the sky isn't red, and we definitely were passed strange two since there were burn marks in the center of the city.

so three or four.

then I noticed the lack of swarmers so I decided it was stage 3. swarmers are pterodactyl-like creatures that come on stage four. In stage four there will be things that will be hard to deal with, and those are the most annoying.

"Are you better," she asked.

"yes, I am. I think it's time for us to enter the city," I said picking her up and dropping from the roof.

(meanwhile with Anna)

"she's back," death said from behind me, scaring the hell out of me.

"Jesus, I said quit doing that," I said.

"I can only stay for so long, I can't sense your sister, but I know she's back on earth," she said disappearing.

"wait where," I began to ask, but death had already disappeared.

"damn it," I cursed

"Alexander," I called.

"yes miss," a boy said scrambling into the office.

"find me a woman that looks like this picture," I said putting a picture of my sister in his hands.

"right away ma'am," he said practically running.

poor Anna. she was never going to find her sister because right now she was inside the quest area of the "guild".

arguing with the receptionist to shut her trap and let her take whatever mission she wanted.

meanwhile, death had some backed-up work to do. while she was away one of her reapers decided it was a good idea to leave the souls on autopilot, and with trillions of souls coming into their gates it'll be backed up in no time.

with so many worlds of course there were going to be a lot of souls but got damn. she was only gone for a couple of years and this happened.

man, she was going to need more workers to keep this up for her, and that's what she did.

she went through all of the souls and pick the most hard-working and the ones that wouldn't slack off to work for her.

there were many jobs in the reaper business. sorting, collecting, judging, or even taking the lives, but the most important one is sorting, usually needing at least 30 reapers at a time.

it doesn't help that they get paid death coins, and when they have one million they have a shot at rebirth.

in order to collect that amount it would take at least 400 years, but on rare occasions when death was happy, she would send some out early.

like, say if a certain someone from earth finally came back. not she was going to admit it... but she did find her company enjoyable.

(back to our MC).

"Just give me the goddamn quest," I yelled.

"for the last time, you have to start with lower-rank missions," the receptionist yelled back.

"you know what, I'ma do whatever the hell I please," I said taking the quest.

"don't blame me for your death then... asshole," he said under his voice.

"yeah yeah, shove it up your ass," I said leaving the guild.

"didn't go well?" fire asked me.

"no. they thought I was some rookie," I said crossing my hands.

"it's okay. I know how strong you are," fire told me.

"let's go, I need to get us some duke coins," I said as she grabbed my hand.

"Duke coins?" fire asked.

"the currency. I guess my sister implemented a new money system," I told her.

"what's the mission you picked," she asked.

"me? well if I had it my way I would have killed some of the highest-level zombies. "but you have to start in the tier-one jobs," I imitated.

"it's fine I know you can do it," she said.

"Of course, I can. now if you want to be safe, stay in my safe house," I said picking her up.

I jumped to the roof, exited the safe zone, and ran to my stash. this hideout was still secure so I dropped her off and warned her not to open the door and to if anything opens to shoot them.

I'll hear the shot and I'll be here in seconds, and kill anything, or anyone who tries to harm her.

nobody was safe.
