15 Chapter 15: A little moment.

I waited until She was asleep to finally sit up. Exactly what was I trying to do just then?

Was I so beside my self with jealousy I acted on impulse? No that can't be it; I don't exactly like Eva is such a way let alone love her. I looked over at the sleeping Elf girl with conflicting emotions. It wasn't that I disliked her this I was sure of; she was different then most woman I knew that was true. Fiercely independent and somewhat anti social; Yet she wasn't so into herself she was bossy. Perhaps I'm simply intrigued; I chuckled then coming to terms with my new found interest.

I got up from the loveseat and swept the hair from Eva's kind face. She could be so aggravating but I honestly didn't hate it. It was kinda fun; refreshing one could say. I didn't feel like I had to play the hero around her or that she had these major expectations of me.

"Eva you are quite something." I said quietly to myself; Or so I thought.

"She really is something but It's creepy to watch someone sleep; wouldn't you agree?" I felt the presence before I heard the voice and I turned to see 2 red eyes leering at me from the shadows.

"You're one to talk vampire." I argued back. I chanced a glance at my sword calculating when would be the right time to summon it to my grasp.

"As much as I would like nothing more than to rip your throat out Don; I would like to call a truce; at least for tonight and negotiate with you. I would also prefer not to disturb my lady." He said my name as if he had tasted something terrible but I could tell he was being honest; His lady? Something was definitely different this time.

"I promise I'll leave the region if you give me Eva. " He said it plainly but I still couldn't believe my ears. What exactly did he want with her? Either way she was my charge there was no way I could hand her over nor did I want too.

" I am bound by contract to protect Eva. I can't and won't hand her over to you." Did he ever blink? His red eyes seemed to swarm with a life of their own. Perhaps he didn't like my response?

"So you're saying it's not up to you then?" He asked calmly. I nodded feeling a little more than suspicious.

"I see." He said finally. I didn't like where this was going at all; Exactly what was he planning?

"What do you want with Eva?" I said hastily. I could see the glow of his eyes dim before they flared to life again.

" Nothing of your concern." His tone held a slight edge to it.

" You didn't bite or kill her when you had the chance. Why?" There was a pause between us before I could hear the beginnings of a haunting and bone chilling laugh.

"What does any man want with a woman?" He replied then said with a hint of a threat.

"Just remember that one isn't available."

That was enough to tempt me into summoning my sword and as it met my hand he was gone. Why did he want Eva? Did he really propose to her? How sickening; like a frog lusting after a swan it didn't make sense.

I turned to Eva with a new found resolve; He would not take her.

The next morning Eva didn't say anything to me. Perhaps she was mad? Why was it I was so compelled to talk when I was with her? Usually I was surrounded by useless prattle; be it from strangers or my soon to be wives. There was never a chance to get a word in even if I wanted to talk.

I chanced a glance in her direction and was pleasantly surprised. She was napping; her snow white hair shimmered in the sunlight; Creating a beautiful halo around her. I leaned back and caressed her dark skin; her cheeks where soft and round.

"How cute." I said it before I realized it and quickly looked forward again. What was I doing? I chided myself in shock. I was only intrigued so why did I do that? I looked back again and couldn't help but smile; It's not like she will ever know I did it anyway.
