1 Chapter 1 : I Quit

"Oh wow, look what Eva did now." Gossiped one of the many snobbish Elves.

" What is the matter with you?! Can't you see 2 feet in front of you?!"

Screeched the male customer into my face; I stared daggers back. There was no way this was my fault. I had been standing here holding his tray of food for 3 minutes, waiting for him to take his seat and yet he chatted away with his friends about nothing.

The man was lucky I hadn't walked away already.

" Sir." I said in a tight voice. Trying for civility rather than faking kindness.

" It seems you've flipped your tray onto me. I can replace-" my sentence was cut short by the customer. who was visibly become more impatient the longer this went on.

" I flipped it?! How can I flip it when you're the one holding it?!" He had a sly smirk on his face and I could feel so many judgmental eyes drilling into my skin.

It wasn't easy living here as a dark elf. You were treated no better than rubbish and no body cared at all about you, your feelings, and all because you weren't of pure elf blood.

Bullying was nothing new and at this point it was treated like some kind of side show. I took a deep breathe before I continued.

" I can replace this food for you free of charge." I said picking up where I had left off. The smirk he had was replaced by that of anger he was probably going to let me have an ear full. however a loud clattering followed by a booming voice.

" EVA!!!" Came echoing from across the large pavilion.

That would be my temperamental pervert of a boss. Great...

I used the little distraction to sneak away from the angry customer and slid behind the counter. My boss spotted me and like a blind bull moved his large mass in my direction.

Great out of the boiling pan and into the fryer I thought sardonically as I stood waiting to face him.

" Why am I hearing that you bullied a customer?!"

I almost let out a laugh. Would anyone willingly dump a hot drink and sticky food onto themselves?

"Boss. I know this may sound ridiculous but the customer flipped the tray I was holding. They smushed it into my chest." I said gesturing to my entire front. Luckily I was wearing an apron or there would have been much deeper stains. He stared perversely at my chest for a moments then with a smile that made my skin crawl said.

" That is indeed a ridiculous claim. No one would willingly spill the food they paid for. for your transgressions you'll stay after hours and train your customer service skills." He then walked away leaving me more than confused.

Training after hours? Did we even have such classes? My mind wandered as the pavilion returned to its normal casual atmosphere. I cleaned the stains from the booth and tables. As the time passed a young elven girl whom was newly recruited came to me and tapped me on the shoulder.

" Eva." I glanced at her and nodded as I continued my work.

" I don't like you." I stopped and laughed, Unable to hold it back. Nothing new there. She looked startled but continued.

" I don't like you but..I wouldn't wish what he is going to do to you on anyone. Please quit before it's to late. He is.. " she stopped prompting me to look at her.

Her blue-green eyes were down casted, her profile trembled and I could see her dainty fingers twitch . She began to hug herself.

" please quit. No body wants or needs you here anyway." I wanted to argue the point that I had wants and needs too but her distant eyes and disgusted expression made me think better of it. What exactly was she thinking about right now that could put her into such a disturbing trance??

" Just leave, Just leave and never come back." She said it out loud but it sounded more like it was for herself than for my sake. I went to touch her shoulders but stopped short.

"Thank you." I said finally. She wasn't my friend or anything of the sort but she was kind enough to warn me; a hated individual about the danger ahead. She nodded roughly then and walked off; I watched her go feeling a bit anxious and a little lonely.

I put away the cleaning supplies and took off my apron. walking straight into the managers office like I owned it I dropped my apron on his desk. He gave me a hard stare and his eye brows knitted together; Which for a rather plump face was impressive.

"What are you doing dark elf?" He said the last part like a insult; with an expression of someone who had just eaten a nasty bug.

I stood up straighter trying to appear more confident.

"I Quit. " I said it curtly and began to turn to leave when I heard him quickly shuffle up behind me. I turned around in time for me to notice and dodge his massive body as he attempted to ram into me. He instead shot forward and tripped onto his stomach; I watched in surprise and slight amusement as he jiggled to a halt on the floor.

I side stepped around him and headed out of the pavilion door. His voice boomed from behind me.

" Eva!! You trash! You are nothing! -" among other things I'd rather forget.

It was somewhat liberating standing up to him. However I knew I couldn't stay in the colony after that. There would definitely be repercussions to me humiliating an elf as a dark elf.
