The Ancient's Origins

The only morals I had were a single rule: I would leave 'her' alone. I would let 'her' live her life without my influence, even though we were once close. Close enough to be... no, that'll be for another time. I lived by that single rule, without caring about what I did to anyone else. I killed, I made people suffer, I forced people into despair. Didn't matter if they were innocent or not, I was just a murder maniac. I enjoyed killing. I still do. I was, no. I am despicable. Only at my deathbed, only then did I regret. Only at my deathbed, when I learned that 'she' died by the hands of someone, who wanted to frame me, was I livid. I used the one thing I mastered from the origin.  [Origin Storm] And with what little strength I had, I tried to trigger it at the same city those responsible were. I failed. I WANTED TO SLAUGHTER THEM. But shortly after that, I collapsed upon a ruin's steps, I saw my former best friend, the one before I... 'turned', so to speak. He only asked one thing before I ultimately died. "Why?" I but simply smiled and closed my eyes. Accepting the warm embrace of death. Then, then I awoke. In the same hospital I was entered in when I was struck by lightning. The same day I changed, for the worst. Then I heard a voice. "Only in despair, did you regret. Only at the loss of your anchor, did you finally go insane. Only for your duty, did you defy death and try to avenge 'her'. By the Authority of the Origin Tree, Yggdrasil, I shall give you a single chance. Why, you might ask. It's simple, boredom and nothing else." Even if I was reborn from the boredom of a higher being, I thanked them. I, Gray Darian, was scum. Hah... maybe I still am. I was hypocritical, selfish, purposefully ignorant, arrogant. And much more. I won't say something cliche like 'I'll change for the better'. The only thing I'll do... is repay the debts I owe. ============================================ Release Schedule (Hopefully): 2-3 Chapters a week, 1 Chapter / 3 Days. 1500 - 2300 words per chapter.

First day of school.

At 21:00 in the morning, humans and beastkin alike entered the Lorevid school. Amongst which were a select few, who would eventually change the world along with a golden eyed turquoise-silver haired boy sitting solitary in a classroom.

As Gray stared around the so-so sized classroom, he noticed the bronze and mahogany nameplates on top of each and every one of the 40 tables around the room. In an instant, a weird idea came to Gray. The edges of his mouth curved into a sinister smile.

A few minutes later at 21:43am when class is set to start 17 minutes later, people began to flood into the room. One after another, they walked in, while the whole time, Gray kept his hands over his mouth, an amused glint present in his shimmering eyes.

Finally, after a while of waiting. Laine entered the room. His eyes surveilled the room, landing on Gray's figure and he simply walked around looking for his nameplate and corresponding seat. Eventually, he reached the seat next to Gray. As he looked at Gray, he saw him stifling his laughter. It was at this moment that the teacher walked in at 22:00 and that Laine realized Gray's plan.

Laine let an amused smile slip before correcting his ever-present inexpressive face. He sat down and watched the show begin.

The teacher was a man of short stature but not a dwarf. How would someone realize that? It's simple, there were bear ears on his head.

Yes.

Bear. Ears.

He wore a simple grey long-sleeved shirt with the black overshirt donning the school's insignia, his jeans were a simple navy color. The insignia of the school was quite... eccentric. It had a tilted white hexagon with a red cat's eye with orange flecks and a 12 present in the Iris. Some edges of the hexagon had tails. Yes, tails. One side had a bunny's tail, another had a cat's tail. The last had an anteater's tail. All tails had a simple thing in common. They were white. Not a simple white, no, a special kind of pearl was used in these.

Known as Clam's Shit. The pearl is a very popular florescent pearl that is used in many embroideries, allowing them to glow at nighttime.

After having checked everyone's position in the class. The teacher simply narrowed his eyes confusedly. A single thought ran rampant through his mind.

'Who swapped the seats around? I was sure I placed the nameplates differently...'

It was then that he noticed a few kids snickering. He looked over by the outside window seat, at a kid with the nameplate [Langford, Ferris]. It was a beastman with either wolf or dog's ears. The teacher couldn't differentiate them.

His eyebrows raised and asked. "Is there something funny Ferris?"

Forty pairs of eyes instantly landed on him. Ferris had no idea what was going on, he just spotted an idiot trying to chase a squirrel. So, that's what he said.

"I saw -Pfft- a beastman chasing a -Pfft- squirrel outside."

After a pointing from Ferris, the others gathered along the window, seeing the person chasing the squirrel. They burst out in laughter almost instantly.

"SHUT UP AND SIT DOWN."

A booming voice, not a shout, sounded inside the room. Everyone's voice silenced, their attention magnetized towards the front, where a man stood.

The man was 6'5 and his tanned skin seemed tougher than steel, he had a chiseled face with slanted black eyebrows matching his short but wavy, jet black hair. His eyes were a dark amethyst, piercing but as calm as the ocean, seemingly ready to burst at any time. His attire was a suit and pants, both black. The suit itself consisted of a white undershirt, barely visible under his collar that contained a snow-white tie. The jacket that covered the undershirt was a void black with the insignia present again.

The most attention-grabbing thing, was, without a doubt, his aura. The man in front of them, was a Sentinel tier human. No-one dared even breathe. They sat down, stayed silent, and listened.

"Good. You have some respect for those above you.

I'll get started with an explanation. First of all, I welcome you to the Lorevid Academy. You will spend the next eight Years here. From your age of eight or so, to the top of the school, Year 8. In this academy, we'll encourage you to do a few things and teach you others.

To start with, we will assist you in furthering your Physiques, Energy Purity, Affinities, Understanding and hopefully, your level of existence.

You will be allowed to select your classes based on your specialties. Some of you might be an Archer, others might be a mage pursuing your elemental Origin. It all depends on your preference.

As for what we expect of you? We expect that you will sort out your own conflicts in the arena or with a competition. We expect that you will do your best, not your worst. Above all, we expect that you will understand that in order to survive in this world... you will not underestimate anyone. Other than asking for you to keep a basic level of respect for people, that is all for now.

I will see you on the school's field in an hour for the initiation. You will keep quiet there. Or you would be disrespecting the Principal.

Goodbye now."

The imposing aura vanished at the drop of a hat. Everyone let out an unconsciously held breath.

The whispers began.

"Damn, that was... frightening..."

"That was a Sentinel tier human, wow."

"Shit, you think I could ever get that powerful?"

The mutterings continued until the teacher raised his hand.

"Right, everyone. I'll call the register, then we can get started with the Q and A."

A student asked. "Q and A? Why?"

"Because otherwise we'll have to deal with the annoying questions later, that will be troublesome so get them out of your system now."

A collective ""Ohh"" was voiced out.

The register began.

"Aislinn Jasper." "Here!"

"Willian Colt." "Here!"

"Carlos Pablo." "Present."

"Victoria Everheart." "Accounted for!"

"Animus Harvey." "Here Sir."

"Trent Segall." "Yes!"

"John Shaw." "Yes sir."

"Timothy Crow." "Here."

"Jeremy Dawn." "Present sir!"

"Lilian Kim." "Hello."

"Willow Fernia." "Yes."

26 names later.

"Ferris Langford." "Yes Sir!"

"Laine Wyatt." "Here."

"Gray Helnes."

"..."

"Gray Helnes?"

"..."

"GRAY HELNES!"

"YES SIR!"

Gray sat up immediately, waking up from the calm stupor of sleep. An outbreak of laughter shot out and Gray's face turned beetroot red.

Apart from the small thoughts of ridicule, two people had a similar thought.

'It's the same so far.'

After a sigh reeking of exhaustion, the teacher began his lesson.

"Today, you will learn of our world's composition, as well as our galaxy-orb's situation."

Tens of confused faces and pairs of narrowed eyes burrowed into the teacher.

"Relax, relax, I'll explain. First of all, the world Estiria is split into 9 continents. The central continent, and the others are the North-east, North-west, South-east, South-west, East-north, East-south, West-north and West-south continents. The North and East continents are home to ranks 14 and 13. The West continents are home to us, Rank 12. The South continents are home to some Rank 10, Intelligent Beasts."

A student spoke up. "Then what about the ga-"

They were interrupted almost instantly. "I'll get to that now, put your hand down Jeremy."

After Jeremy complied and the attention was directed at the teacher, he had begun to speak.

"First, in order to understand the Galaxy orb's importance, you'll need to understand something else.

Our world holds host to some of Rank 10 and of course some of us Rank 12. The other worlds, however, host the other ranks. In total there are roughly 69,420 worlds while only 47 are of importance to you lot for now.

The first 30 are our home-worlds, they hold billions of us Rank 12 on them and train the next generation. Of the other 17, you will visit 3 of them for your 4th year here, while the 10 others are the capitals.

Rank 12's, our, capital. Calfiris. | Rank 11's capital. Elthilius. | Rank 10's capital. Glearthae. | Rank 9's capital. Mi'ental. | Rank 8's capital. Viscio. | Rank 7's capital. Aeris. | Rank 6's capital. Fenfirit. | Rank 5's capital. Henher. | Rank 4's capital. Wen'iris. | Rank 3's capital. Quartiline.

And finally, the last 4. Are all ancient Ruin worlds.

Those 47 worlds I mentioned, are all within our Galaxy Orb. Each Galaxy orb holds 2,314 worlds. There are 30 of such orbs.

A galaxy orb is an object created by a Rank 1 Supreme Goddess, the Spatial Goddess Minerva."

The teacher paused, allowing us to digest the information for a minute or two before continuing.

"Travelling from World to world is quite easy, you just need to use the Bifrost MK.XVII to travel. Galaxy Orb travelling, however, is much more costly. You need tens of different exotic herbs and rare minerals, and that's just to power it! To activate it, you need a liter of blood from every rank in the galaxy orb! Not even a Large Greater Spatial Gemstone would be able to carry all of that!"

People's eyes widened instantly, it was common knowledge that even Small Lesser Spatial Gemstones have 10 by 10 by 15 meter storage, let alone Greater Spatial Gemstones that had at least 25 by 30 by 50 meter dimensional spaces. AT LEAST.

"And that's all from me, you'll learn more in depth during the trip in your fourth year. I'll start giving you circulation methods, enhancement techniques, elemental textbooks and some elemental orbs."

Hearing this, 35 pairs of eyes lit up, all wishing to choose theirs first. Of course, the teacher expected this and then decided to do something simple.

"Gray Helnes, come up and choose."

Acting shocked, then joyful, Gray made his way to the 3 by 2 meter table with manuals galore.

His face changed from joyful to an investigative expression. Perusing over the four piles, he began to think over his options.

'There's several good ones here for all four. Let's start with the textbooks.'

Looking over at the elemental textbook pile, Gray looked for one to do with Lightning. Eventually finding a yellow and orange bound book, the title read:

[Tier I Lightning Elemental Basics. {Root 24-18]

However, he knew it wouldn't be helpful. He simply chose it to keep a low profile. The true textbook he needed would show itself as a reward in 5 years, during the school's competition.

He thought. 'It's a pity I can't get the [Tier V Elemental Pattern Book {Root 24-1]'

Although it's inconspicuous and most would think it's meant for all elements after reading it, which is correct. The truth, however, is that the real element in the book, is the Tier 5 Element, Order. An extremely difficult book to understand no doubt.

Following this, Gray browsed over the Enhancement Techniques. In the future, Gray had always fallen behind on that, making his Existential Advancements slower than the others. This time however, Gray knew which one he wanted.

'Nightmare Technique, Entry Technique, Thunderclap Technique.'

He showed a puzzled expression. 'Where is it.'

After a minute of searching, Gray finally set eyes on it. 'There it is.'

[Railgun Technique {Crystal Mountain]

Picking it up and putting it next to the textbook, Gray quickly found the elemental orb for lightning. However, he hesitated. He looked over at the single orb that was on it's own. It had a clock in it, always changing. Gray decided to go with his instincts and pick up what he assumed to be the time orb.

However, "I recommend you don't pick that up Helnes."

A voice sounded out from behind. Gray turned. Gray's eyes met with a blonde-haired, green-eyed kid with a noble air around him.

The kid snorted, he said. "Good, you at least recognize nobi-"

Gray took the Time Orb anyway. "-lity... I SAID DON'T TOUCH THAT!"

Gray simply opened his mouth, ready to speak before the kid. In that moment, a familiar scene played out in Laine's sight.

Gray stared down the kid and inquired a simple, provocative question.

"And?"

The class went speechless as Gray turned back to pick a circulation method. Gray spotted the one almost instantly, picking it up and checking the introduction for clarification. After confirming, he left with his new circulation method.

[Auran Serpent Union Method]

Rather, it only was only pronounced that way. The meaning was:

[World Serpent's Assimilation Method]

Nevertheless, people only found that out during the trip when they met a World Serpent.

The World Serpent they met however, was no normal one.

The one they met had ascended to Rank 3, the one they met had devoured tens of thousands of stars.

The one they met?

[Jörmangandr The World Eater]
