Chapter 3

That same night, Leikos, her grandfather couldn't stay still because Cailean is still not home.

"Where did she go? She still not here at this hour." He asked with his hands clasped together.

He looked at the sky and said, "It's already dark and it will be hard for her to go home now."

He went inside the house and there he decided to wait for a few minutes, he sat on the chair with his eyes closed. He was thinking of what he should do, to wait or to see where she is so he can go to where she is.

"Cailean." Leikos uttered and slowly opened his eyes then stood up and went to where his crystal ball was.

He took a deep breath before he put his hands on it and made slow circular motions on it while saying, "Show me… show me where Cailean is."

He kept on moving his hands on it while waiting for it to reveal to him where his granddaughter was.

The crystal ball changed its colors inside and it showed a room.

"Room?" Leikos asked with a frown on his face.

It showed a room and it changed to Cailean who was sleeping soundly on the bed.

"Where is this?" Leikos asked and titled his head on the side.

The crystal ball zoomed out and there it revealed that it was the palace.

"No!" Leikos uttered and his fist clenched, "No…it can't be!"

He was so nervous when he saw it through his crystal ball; he has a secret that shouldn't reveal. He chooses to live here in the forest to stay away from Alpha, but he can't prevent it for happening, destiny brought them together.

He covered the crystal ball with a linen cloth and took something to cover himself and for Cailean and took a small lamp that was hanging beside their door and went his way to pick up Cailean.

"Cailean and the Alpha can't see each other, but it already happened." Leikos said and just hearing it say himself makes him scared. He walked faster while saying, "I need to prevent it while I can. I can still stop this!"

Leikos walked and ran towards the palace, for him every second that Cailean was there was dangerous.

He arrived at the gate of the palace and entered the gate but the guards stopped him.

"You don't understand, I need to talk to the Alpha. My granddaughter is inside." Leikos explained to them.

"Is the Alpha expecting you?" One of them asked him.

"No, but I am telling you that my granddaughter is inside." Leikos explained again.

"What should we do?" One of them asked.

"Let's tell the Beta first, the Alpha doesn't want to be disturbed." One of the guards said.

One of them goes inside to look for the Beta and asks him about Leikos.

Leikos can't stop moving back and forth while waiting for the guard to come back.

"Excuse me? Old man… You're making me dizzy, stop moving!" One of the guards said to him.

"Oh, sorry." Leikos said and stood in front of him.

The guard came back and said, "Beta Farkas is not inside, what we should do now?"

"What else? We can't let him in." The guard said and looked at him.

Leikos raised his head with his eyes wide open and said, "What do you mean? I told you my granddaughter is inside. I need to go home with her."

"And you just heard that no one in the palace is inside that can tell you to come in." The guard said to him firmly.

Beta Farkas was about to walk past by the gate when he heard an unfamiliar voice, he looked at the gate and there he saw the guards talking to an old man.

The other guard spotted him and tapped the other guard.

"What? Let's just drag him out of here." The guard said to the other guard with a frown on his face.

"Wait, Beta Farkas is here." The guard said and stood up properly on the side and lowered down his head, the same goes to the other guard.

"What's happening here?" Beta Farkas asked and looked at the two of them.

"He came here asking to talk to the Alpha because his granddaughter is inside the palace." One of the guards explained to him.

Beta Farkas looked at the old man and asked, "Your granddaughter?"

Leikos bowed a little to show his respect to the Beta and immediately nodded then answered, "Good evening, Beta Farkas. My granddaughter is blind and she's still not home so I came here to see if one of you saw her or to ask for help to find her."

Leikos lied because he already knew that Cailean was inside and studied the Beta's face.

"Oh, blind." Beta Farkas uttered he looked at Leikos and thought that he's maybe a member of the family of the blind girl they saw earlier. He looked back to the palace then to Leikos. He nodded and looked at Leikos and said, "Come with me, I'll tell the Alpha."

Leikos nodded and quietly followed Beta Farkas inside the palace.

"Sit here and wait." Beta Farkas said and pointed at the sofa inside the living area before he left to talk to Alpha Conri.

Leikos waited there while looking around.

Alpha Conri was lying on his stomach with his arm on Cailean's stomach, resting with his eyes closed.

Beta Farkas was already in front of Alpha Conri's room. He knocked a few times and waited for him to open it.

Alpha Conri looked at the door and then to Cailean and stood up then fixed the blanket for her. He put on his clothes and walked towards the door and opened it.

"Good evening, Alpha." Beta Farkas greeted him and bowed a little. He looked at him then said, "I'm sorry for disturbing your rest but an old man was looking for the blind lady that we saw earlier."

"An old man?" Alpha Conri asked with his eyes widened and looked at Cailean who was sleeping soundly.

"He's in the living room waiting." Beta Farkas added.

Alpha Conri nodded and stepped out of the room then slowly closed the door and said, "Let's go to him."

Beta Farkas nodded and walked behind the Alpha.

Alpha Conri and Beta Farkas were going down the stairs when the Alpha saw Leikos and asked, "Is that him?"

"Yes, Alpha." Beta Farkas answered.

"I think I already saw him somewhere." Alpha Conri almost whispered. He tilted his head and added, "But I don't remember where."

Leikos felt the Alpha's presence, he stood up and when he saw his feet walking past by the small line that was separating the living room from other parts of the house, he bowed his head towards him.

Alpha Conri looked at him and sat on the chair that was in the middle of two sofas beside it, he looked at the old man and said, "Who are you?"

Beta Farkas stood behind Alpha Conri.

Leikos kept his head down and said, "Good evening, Alpha Conri. I am Leikos and I am here to pick up my granddaughter who was under your care."

"Sit." Alpha Conri said while observing Leikos. His face remained blank while studying him, he can't smell that he is a werewolf so, he is a wizard then.

"You're Cailean's grandfather?" The Alpha asked him.

Leikos nodded and answered, "Yes, Alpha."

"Have we met before? You look familiar." Alpha Conri asked him while looking at him.

"I worked here in the palace before, when it was still your father's time." Leikos answered him.

"Oh, that's why you looked familiar." Alpha Conri said to him. He looked at him and added, "Do you live in the forest? That's where we saw her; she is wounded and was being attacked by wild animal."

Leikos became more worried at Cailean but his worry about it can't surpass how worried he is that Cailean was under the Alpha's roof, he calmed himself and said, "Yes, we do live in the forest. Thank you for taking care of Cailean and I'm sorry for the trouble."

Alpha Conri only nodded at what he said because there's something he is curious about and asked, "What happened to Cailean? Why did she go blind?"

Leikos looked at the Alpha, at first he hesitated because it wasn't a good memory for him and to Cailean but he knows that he needs to answer when it's the Alpha who was asking, he took a deep breath and said, "Cailean was 15 years old when it happened. A big explosion happened near where her family was driving home and it caused their car to lose control and there her parents also died…" He took a deep breath and continue, "The doctor said that when the glass broke from the windows of their car, some pieces get into her eyes that made her blind and ever since then, I was the one who was taking care of Cailean."

Alpha Conri took a deep breath and looked at Leikos and said before he stood up and left, "Go back tomorrow, Cailean is already sleeping."

Leikos raised his head and stood up and said, "But Alpha-"

Beta Farkas stood in front of him and block his one arm to him and said, "You heard the Alpha, just go back tomorrow."

Leikos sighed and stepped back, the guards escorted him out of the palace with his small lamp.

Before going ahead, he looked at the palace once more and said before going back to their house, "Take care of yourself and be strong Cailean…"
