16 ↣ The Queen meets the Luna

𝐖𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐎𝐅 the room after days felt strange, but Benjamin had assured her that she was going to be safe since he would be there to protect her. The sound of the prophecy linked to her life still terrified her although she knew that serving Goddess Selene was the highest honor one could get.

It didn't seem to her that Goddess will choose a mere mermaid like her to bring a revolutionary change in the way the world has been. Her hesitation refrained her from pursuing the prophecy, the only thing in her mind was getting back home to her mate. Being with Triton meant that she would be stronger and when they worked together, they could achieve anything.

He was a part of her life more than anyone else, so she was sure that he was a part of the prophecy. If that was even true and meant for them at all.

"You look beautiful," a voice said behind her.

She squealed in surprise and turned to find Alpha Lucian standing in front of her. Turns out, Benjamin is the positivity she needed in her life right now. When he asked her to stop being scared and embrace what life has thrown at her, she hesitantly agreed. He surely knew his way around fashion and had specially come around in the morning to bring her a new batch of clothes.

"Thank you. Benjamin chose them for me," she replied.

Even though she wanted to look down to not meet his, her eyes stayed on the flawless man standing in front of her. She wasn't in the mood to dress up before, but Benjamin had made her change into a white crop top and shorts. That one hour lecture about clothes had surely made her head spin, but she was glad to know more about them.

"Benjamin? I never thought you knew him," he said.

For some reason, Lucian felt himself seething with jealousy at the mere mention of another guy comforting Esmeray. His Blue.

His mind and heart were at war - having these feelings for Esmeray was wrong since he had a mate.

"Yeah, we just met and kind of hit off," she replied.

She and Benjamin had decided to keep her identity a secret - she had made her intentions to him pretty clear that she wanted nothing to do with this prophecy and just wanted to find her way back home. Benjamin surely didn't approve of her choice but she was the Queen between them, not him.

"It's good to know that you are bonding with others. It will help your acceptance in the Ignis pack more easily," Lucian said.

Those words scared Esmeray because she knew that there was no way she was ever going to be accepted into a werewolf pack. She was a mermaid, after all!

"I.... I will need some time to think about it. Even though I don't really remember my past, I sure have one. I did belong somewhere - I might have a home to return to. So, being accepted into this pack is going to be a tough call for me," she replied.

Lucian looked at her in confusion - no werewolf can survive without a pack. Rogues did exist but they killed to live. Their lifestyle ensured that they didn't live for long. Her hesitation was valid though - everyone had a past, no matter what their present might be.

"Fine, but the delay can't be for too long. I know that your wolf is dead, but you are still a part of the kingdom. Being a rogue kills you, and since I saved your life before, you are my responsibility," he replied.

She nodded.

"Here you are, Lucian. I have been searching everywhere for you," a feminine voice interrupted them.

A strawberry blonde she-wolf raked her hands around Lucian's neck and kissed him on the lips. The sight irked Esmeray as she shifted her gaze to anywhere but them. By the intimacy they showed, Esmeray was sure that the woman was Lucian's mate. That meant that she was the Luna of the pack.

For some reason, she found herself feeling a bit frustrated at the sight of some other woman kissing Lucian. It was ridiculous since she and Lucian weren't mates and she barely even knew him!

Lucian felt hesitant to kiss Mia in front of Esmeray. He couldn't pull away from her though because he knew that Mia would make an issue out of it, claiming why he didn't want to kiss her in front of another she-wolf. Esmeray was a beauty, and he was sure that Mia was going to compare herself to Esmeray all the time.

He pulled away from the kiss when he knew that they have kissed for way too long in front of a stranger. As an Alpha, he had to maintain some decorum.

"Mia, meet Esmeray. She is the girl I rescued," he said, shifting his attention back to his Blue.

Mia's judging gaze made Esmeray uncomfortable - it was like she was burning holes all over her body. She had thought that as a Luna Mia would be kind, but the daggers she was throwing at her with her eyes clearly said otherwise.

"So, you are the girl I almost lost my mate for. You should feel lucky that you are still standing. The next time you go for a swim, make sure you know how to do it," Mia said.

Esmeray's eyebrows furrowed at Mia's tone - who the hell that she-wolf thinks she is? She might be the Luna of some pack, but Esmeray is the Queen of the Sea!

But for the sake of the Luna's life, she maintained her calm.

"Mia, be kind," Lucian said, feeling angry over his mate's word. Mia very much knew that Esmeray had been through turmoil, having a vampire bite her and then, losing her wolf. Her insecurity had no place here.

"Why, Lucian? We know nothing about her! Heavens know what troubles might come knocking at our door because of her!" Mia replied.

Esmeray could sense a couple's argument brewing so she decided to end it even though she liked Lucian defending her.

"Alpha Lucian, the Luna is right. I should have been more careful. I am sorry, Luna, I will make sure to learn to swim before hitting the sea. I am sure we don't want any more vampires biting me just because I don't know how to swim, do we?" Esmeray replied with a smile on her face.

Mia's deathly gaze was enough to satisfy Esmeray. And for some reason, Lucian looked like he was going to laugh.

Esmeray knew she had won, after all, she was taught by the best.

Killing them with kindness, the best old trick in her books.
