"𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔?" the werewolf asked Esmeray again. His eyes never left her tail and she knew that now her truth was out. The werewolf was going to tell the others about her truth. She was going to be then, sacrificed by them for some stupid ritual.

"I asked a question, stranger," the guy asked again.

Esmeray sighed and first, transformed her tail back to the legs she was still getting used to. She didn't care that he saw her naked - as a mermaid she was accustomed to it and judging by the fight they had when they transformed into beasts without any care of their clothes.

When she faced him, there was an expression of confusion on his face - not anger or fear.

"I am a mermaid. My name is Esmeray and I am the Queen of the Merfolk," she told him.

The man's expression didn't change, it was like he was expecting her to say that. Truthfully, he didn't look much threatening with his blue eyes, brown hair, and handsome face. Freckles decorated his face that made him look cuter.

But what he did next was completely unexpected. He bowed to her instantly, as if he was one of her subjects. She gasped, surprised.

"It's my honor to meet you, Queen Esmeray. I am Benjamin, an Aqua. Our ancestors have been searching for years," he said.

His words made her worried - they have been looking for her for years? What could they possibly need from her?

As he got up, he looked at her fearful expression and realized his mistake.

"Don't worry, Queen Esmeray. The Aqua pack derives its powers from the water and we have sworn to protect every creature that belongs to the sea. When you first came to this pack, I felt powerful energy and the way the water was raging meant one thing - the King of the sea was livid. And then, suddenly the members of the Aqua pack started dying meant one thing. The prophecy was now in action," Benjamin said.

The Queen was confused as to what was happening. She wasn't aware of any prophecy and did the man trust her so easily?

"I... I have no idea what you are talking about but I will be more than willing to listen to you. What about we talk later in my room?" she replies.

"Oh! Curse my poor manners! Sure, Queen Esmeray, we can talk in your room later. Since my night shift is going on, I can't go with you. But I will surely meet with you after lunch if that's alright with you," Benjamin says.

"Sure," Esmeray replies.

She didn't trust the man because even though he claimed that he obtained his powers from the water, it didn't mean that he can be trusted - even the sirens derive their powers from the sea.

Benjamin bows to her again and then take his leave.

After she is sure that he is gone, she changes into the clothes she had left on the beach when she went for the swim. Letting out the breath she didn't know she was holding, Esmeray ran her hand through her hair and tried to calm down her racing heart.

She has to be more careful from now on since she barely got lucky this time. It couldn't be predicted as of now but she hoped that Benjamin wasn't lying to her.

With a final look at the sea, she made her way back to the packhouse.

The dread of the unknown prophecy still crawling in her mind.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐂𝐊 𝐎𝐍 the door interrupted her thoughts and she sighed, knowing that who was there. Lunch had ended a while ago, so she was sure that Benjamin was there to talk to her.

As of now, nothing suspicious had happened so she was convinced that Benjamin had stayed true to his words. Maybe she could trust him.

She got up to open the door for him. When she did so, Benjamin was standing on the other side with a huge grin on her face. She was confused as to why he was so glad but decided to ignore it.

He walked in, closely examining the room, and looked at Esmeray. She sat on the bed and motioned him to take a seat on the chair in the room.

"So, what is it that you wanted to tell me?" she asks him.

In the light, Benjamin certainly looked more handsome - with his perfectly built muscles and a smile that can swoon many hearts. He didn't look threatening at all except the canines that he had. Esmeray wished that he could simply keep them in and not in display but she wasn't in a position for making any demands.

"Yeah. As I have told you, I am an Aqua. My father is an Ignis and my mother, his mate, is an Aqua. When they found out that they are mates, my mother had to settle down in the Ignis pack with him. I have an older sister, her name is Regina. She is like our father whereas I am like my mother. When I turn 18, I am expected to leave this pack and transfer it to the Aqua pack. But that didn't mean that I didn't visit the pack at all... I needed to do training to control my powers too..." Benjamin stated.

Esmeray listened to his life story carefully, joining the dots with the memories of the nurse. It seemed that these beasts also possess the powers of one of the elements.

"Two days before you were found in the sea, the elders of the Aqua pack sensed a drastic change in the sea. They felt the anger of the King of the seas and even heard him crying for his mate. Alpha Perseus of the Aqua pack then declared that the prophecy was now in motion and that, we must find out the King's mate soon," Benjamin said.

This left Esmeray more confused - she wasn't aware of any prophecy.

"What prophecy?" she asks.

Benjamin looked at Esmeray like she had grown another head. Was there something she was missing? Was that prophecy so important for her to know?

"The Prophecy of Regno, Queen Esmeray. Goddess Selene wishes to unite the mythical kingdoms and this prophecy is the beginning of it," Benjamin replies.

"How are you not aware of that? The Goddess Selene chose the Aqua pack to make sure that the prophecy comes true - she believed that a being from the sea would be ripped from its home and be estranged on our land. You are that creature of the sea, Queen Esmeray! The prophecy had begun with you." he continues.

Benjamin gets up from his seat and starts pacing in the room.

Esmeray's heart gripped - the Goddess herself had ripped her from her home and had now involved her in a prophecy she wished to be no part of.

"This is very serious, Queen Esmeray. The Fates had warned the Alpha King a long time ago that the creatures that were once buried will resurface to take back what's theirs. That's why this prophecy was woven to fight against them. The recent killings of the Aqua wolves is because we are looking for you. Your life is now our top priority and we can't let anything happen to you. You are our hope for a better future," he says.

He then stops and looks at her and speaks to her with a worried tone.

"I must inform Alpha Perseus that you are here. We must defend you. And most importantly, you should know about the prophecy."
