𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐓𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐍 the room was tense as the Alpha examined the new reports handed to him by his Beta. The rogues were crafting something dangerous and Lucian hated not having any idea about what was to come. Even though the Alpha King maintained his quiet on the killings around the kingdom of Wolves, Lucian worried too much for his pack to be silent and do nothing.

It was the life of his wolves on the line.

His eyebrows furrowed as he looked at the background of the murdered wolves - one thing was common among them. Every single one of them was gifted with the powers of water. If they didn't directly belong to the 𝐴𝑞𝑢𝑎 pack, they were somehow related to it.

Even one of his pack members had lost a mate belonging to the 𝐴𝑞𝑢𝑎 pack, previously. Now the avenge of her death was on her current Alpha, Lucian. He had tried contacting Perseus, the Alpha of 𝐴𝑞𝑢𝑎 pack but there was no response.

It was becoming infuriating.

"Alpha, you need to come here. The pups are fighting," the sound of his beta echoed in his mind.

"Get Mia to take care of it, I am busy," he replied through the mind link.

The link was silent for some time. Lucian knew that what he was going to hear next was going to anger him more.

"They aren't listening to the Luna, Alpha," his beta Rafael said.

Somehow, Lucian was aware of that. Mia was a sweet and shy girl who cared for everyone but she lacked leadership qualities. Her inability to stand up for herself caused the pack members to often disrespect their own Luna. Lucian hated instilling fear among his own wolves to treat their Luna better. He didn't rule with fear.

He loved Mia with all his heart but he wished she could break out of her cocoon and be the great Luna Goddess Selena had destined her to be. There must be a reason why she was chosen for him, after all. Not every she-wolf could be capable enough to be a Luna.

"I will be there," he replied through the mind-link.

He walked out of his room, frustration crawling into his mind. He surely needed a run after this since his wolf was begging to be let out.

His pack was vast, surrounded by dense green forest. The faint sound of the sea could be heard and the cold sea breeze would protect them from the scorching heat of the sun during summers. The pack was well-off, having invested in multiple businesses around the Were-kingdom. The members of 𝐼𝑔𝑛𝑖𝑠 had historically dealt with mining natural resources because of their ability to produce fire and melt metals within minutes.

It had granted them all the riches of the world since their diamonds, gold and every kind of gem was wanted by packs around the Were-kingdom.

But with the advent of time, they had to develop and mark their places in different other fields. Their hard-earned and saved money proved out to be rather beneficial in this process.

One look at the pack and one could fathom that they have been well-bestowed.

The packhouse was a large mansion with modern design and carvings on the wall. Lavish furniture decorated its interior and a large wolf statue stood proudly on its entrance. Fire surrounded that wolf, symbolizing the power of the pack. But every member had their own abilities since Goddess Selene soon started pairing members of different packs.

Like his own mate.

It helped unite the were-kingdom better.

As Lucian walked to the training center, the cold sea breeze enveloped him and he momentarily smiled. He had always found his home with the sea - it somehow calmed him down when nothing could.

Lucian could hear the sound of the seawater hitting the rocks from there, thanks to the sharp hearing he had developed when he was granted his wolf.

The family houses were comfortable looking as well with detailed design and lawns. The cheerful sounds of his pack members could be heard.

Lucian felt proud of himself for taking good care of his pack.

Just like his late father had expected him to.

He pushed away that depressing thought in the deep corner of his mind, not wanting to take the guilt trip again.

When he reached the fight scene, his mood dropped. Mia stood near the pups, telling them to calm down and deal with the matters in a civil manner. Yet, nobody listened to her. Raphael scolded them and tried to separate them from each other, yet they seemed in blood lust.

Lucian immediately walked to the pups. They didn't notice him coming so when he grabbed them both in his hands, they growled at them. This was a major show of disrespect.

What Lucian didn't fail to notice were their completely blackened eyes.

A confused expression formed on his face but he quickly recovered to deal with the situation at hand.

"Calm down now, pups! Show your Alpha some respect!" his powerful voice boomed.

He watched as their black eyes returned back to their normal state. It was mysterious and alarming since he knew that the pups weren't young enough to have their wolves and even if they did, the complete blackness of eyes certainly didn't come with it.

A puzzled expression formed on the pup's faces as Lucian released them. They then turned to their parents and ran to them. The pups would have been around thirteen, so they had three more years till they are connected with their wolves.

"What happened?" one of the pups asked.

His fear-laced eyes showed that he wasn't aware of what had conspired. That confused Lucian even more, something unnatural had happened.

"Why were you both fighting?" Raphael asked.

The pups looked at each and their eyes widened.

"We... don't know, Beta Rafael. We were playing in the forest and then suddenly, everything turned black. I swear on my life I wasn't aware of what I was doing," the other pup said.

Rafael shot a worried expression to Lucian, who simply nodded in return.

Lucian had no idea what was going on and that angered him further. He was the Alpha - how is he supposed to protect his people when he doesn't know what he is protecting them against?

"Go home, I shall have a talk with you both tomorrow morning," he ordered the pack members collected.

When they all had left, his attention turned to Rafael.

"Check the borders and strengthen the defense. I want everyone above the age of sixteen training. I sense a danger brewing," he commanded his beta.

Rafael nodded and after bowing to his Alpha, walked away.

"I am sorry," the sweet voice of his mate reached him. He turned to find Mia standing with tears threatening to fall through her dark brown eyes. His heart broke - he hated seeing his mate hurt. He walked to her, grabbing her in a tight hug. Her lavender smell helped him calm down a bit but his wolf was still restless.

"You will learn, 𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑐𝑎 𝑚𝑒𝑎. It takes time to adjust," he told her.

"I hope so, Lucian. They just.... I wish they could treat me better. Look at you, you are all mighty and confident. Everyone respects and listens to you. And then look at me. I am not a leader, I can't be a good Luna. They hate me... every single one of them. I will never be good enough," she said, a sob escaping from her mouth.

Lucian hated when Mia thought little of herself. She was beautiful in every sense, yet all she needed was a bit of self-confidence. There were times when they would get into a fight over meaningless things - like herself comparing to other she-wolves when they visited any ball in the kingdom.

He wished she could see herself the way he sees her.

"I need some time alone, Lucian," Mia said as she de-attached herself from her mate and ran away. Lucian called after her yet she ran into the packhouse.

How he hoped he could comfort her and make her feel better about herself. Maybe he was lacking as a mate which resulted in all those insecurities.

Annoyed by the way the day was turning out, he ran into the deep forest. Shedding his clothes, he imagined his wolf taking over his body. His bones painfully cracked and rearranged themselves. Within milliseconds, the handsome Alpha was transformed into a black wolf. The color of his wolf matched his jet-black hair and his forest-green eyes radiated power.

With incredible speed, he ran through the forest. His heart was wanting to take him to one place alone, so he followed it.

The sound of the sea got louder and the smell of the wet sand greeted his nose. His pace increased, as his wolf impatiently ran to the calling sea.

When he reached the beach, though, an angry sea met him. The tides were smashing hard against the rocks, causing a loud sound to echo all around. The weather looked dangerous, dark clouds surrounded the place. Thunder erupted when the clouds clashed and the calmness of the sea was long gone.

It was like the sea was in a fight with the sky.

His wolf sat on the soft beach sand, his eyes examining the place for any danger.

He tried to gain composure, yet the only thing that gave him serene was itself at war. The beats of his heart synced with the loud thunder of the sea. His mind raced back to the dangerous thoughts he wished never to think about. His mind flashed his father's bloodied body, the cries of his wailing mother resonating in his ears.

The place that felt like home before now felt cold.

He wished to get out of here.

But before he could turn and leave, he heard the painful sound of a woman. His wolf became alert as the sea in front of him started to move in a circle. Lucian feared that a cyclone might be in the way, so he opened his mind link to his beta to alert the members.

But instead, the water suddenly stopped circling around and a huge wave rose from the ground. Lucian's heart gripped as fear crept in. Was the wave going to attack?

Yet the water seemed to have a mind of its own.

Instead of launching itself on the Alpha, it died down slowly. Lucian couldn't understand what was happening but he wished that the sea didn't rise to hurt his people.

As the huge wave disappeared back to the sea, Lucian's eyes fell on something.

Or better someone.

He could see blonde hair floating in the sea. The body was slowly drowning in the thunderous sea since the waves were still strong.

He didn't know why but he knew that he had to go after that someone.

So, he turned back into his human-self and jumped into the water.
