𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐀 𝐖𝐀𝐒 raging and screaming, the sky crying for the sea King who lost his mate. Thunder boomed and the angry waves hit the rocks, letting out the sound of crashing. Rain droplets hit the walls of the house with a significant force and no one in the entire pack could sleep.

Fear coerced in their veins as pups snuggled into their parents for comfort. The guard wolves fought against the rain, their eyes, and ears alert for any suspicious moment.

Even Lucian gazed outside his window with a hot cup of coffee in his hand, his eyes examining the forest surrounding the pack lands. The weather had been thunderous since the day he had rescued the stranger. Numerous pack members complained about it since the noise was disturbing.

For some, though.

Mia slept peacefully on their bed with her blonde hair spread on the pillow and her breathing soft and silent, unlike the weather. Lucian couldn't help but admire her innocence during her sleep.

But his traitorous mind traveled back to a certain blonde he had rescued from the sea, with her eyes as blue as the clean sea and body crafted with perfection. Her beauty was beyond the were-kingdom, and that was something else since the werewolf community was blessed with good genes and looks.

She didn't belong to the were-kingdom, it was impossible for someone so beautiful to exist. Like a pearl in the ocean, she shone and he wished he could treasure her. Even his wolf, who was possessive over his mate couldn't deny the magnetic beauty and the unknown connection between them. It couldn't have been the mate bond since having two mates is unheard of. Moreover, there were no sparks between them to comply with his theory.

While the Alpha was lost in the thoughts of the enchanted beauty, the beauty herself was fighting with her emotions. The painful cries of her mate rang in her ears and she could feel his anger sweep in every single droplet of the sea. He wanted her as much as she needed him.

Tears bled through her eyes for her mate.

She was ready to leave now. Her home was calling out for her, desperately.

With a final sigh and cautiousness, she jumped out of the window of the pack-house, only to land harshly on the solid ground. She mentally cursed herself for not being careful but she knew that even the drops of water falling from the sky will help her heal. And it did.

The mermaid escaped from the guards since she didn't have the smell of a werewolf. She smelled like the sea for them, and it worked to her advantage that one was located near the pack-grounds. She ran with all her might, tripping on broken barks since she had just learned how to use her legs.

Her heart was racing and determination ran through her veins, she was going back home tonight. Nothing can stop her now.

As the sounds of the sea grew closer and the raindrops hit her soft flesh harder, her heart fluttered hoping to see her mate again. She could imagine his gray eyes smiling at her and his kisses trailing down her neck. His laugh rang in her mind. She clung to the memories of him as she fought against the terrain and the rain that tried to slow her down.

When she finally saw the sea, a broad smile formed on her face.

"Finally!" she screamed to the sea.

Shedding her clothes, she didn't even wait until she dived into the sea. Her body morphed as the tail that had disappeared after the siren's bite formed again. Esmeray knew that it took some time to heal from the siren's venom but eventually, the mermaid form will always be there with her until the day she dies.

The feeling of water around her felt magical and a broad smile formed on her face as she inhaled the sea's oxygen. The waves couldn't stop her - instead they played with her. Water was her source of magic as it obeyed it's Queen's every command.

It carried the voice of her mate as their bond strengthened in the water. The terrain had snatched away the delight of her connecting with Triton, so the first thing she did was to think of him.

Esmeray called upon their bond, her heart yearning for Triton. She needed to inform him of where she was and that she would back into his arms soon.

Triton felt Esmeray even worlds away.

The water around her circled around until it opened a portal. Her eyes opened to meet her mate's gray ones and she felt her heartbreak when she looked at him.

Triton wasn't in the best of his condition - with his eyes bloodshot red, wrinkles appearing on his handsome face because of constant worrying and his hair were messy.

"My Ray," Triton said as he raised his hand to touch the surface of the portal. It was like glass was separating them. Unlike the sirens, the mermaids can't open portals to travel large distances that's why she couldn't jump into Triton's arms right then.

"Ty, what have you done to yourself? Please take care," Esmeray said.

Triton's eyes examined every inch of his mate and his eyes furrowed at the marks the siren Queen had left on her beautiful neck.

"I will kill her! How dare she heart my mate!" Triton shouted, his eyes never leaving the puncture holes on Esmeray's neck.

"Calm down, Ty. The sea is raging, and the sky is bursting. If that goes on then the terrain will drown and even though it is covered by demons, we can't kill them. It will mean we are declaring a war against them - a species we know nothing of," Esmeray replied.

She swam closer to Triton, raising her hand to meet his on the other side of the portal. They couldn't touch each other but their proximity bought them comfort.

"Where are you, Ray?" Triton asked.

"I don't know. I see terrain all around me with creatures walking around in a form similar to our ánthropos form. The only difference is that they have teeth as sharp as the sirens. It is dreadful, Ty and I can't stay here any longer. I am scared that they might murder me," she replied.

This made Triton angrier, he can't stand Esmeray being hurt. No one will touch his mate.

"I will find you. Start swimming. Follow the silver light, it will lead you to me," Triton says.

Esmeray nodded. But when she turned around, she couldn't see any silver light. There was just water everywhere.

"There is no silver light, Ty. What is happening?" Esmeray replied, her voice shaking.

"What do you mean, Ray? There must be a silver light! The sea always guides the merfolk to their home!" Triton said, frustrated.

Esmeray looked around her again, but no light greeted her. Did the sea not want her to leave this dreadful place and come back home? Was the sea disobeying the wishes of its own king?

"Ty.... there is no light.... I am lost...." Esmeray replied.

Fear crept in her mind as hope lost its way in her heart. The sea didn't want her to be gone. The sea wanted its Queen dead by the hands of these demons.

Was she not worthy enough?

"Ray! Don't do this to us! I will find you, come what may!" Triton said but Esmeray was lost. The portal disappeared as she shut herself off.

Nobody could save her now for she was at the mercy of the demons.

The sea didn't want her so she couldn't possibly stay there. She would die due to hunger or perhaps the attacks of sirens who wanted her gone.

So, she swam back to the shore with her mind blank and heart certain of her approaching death.

Imagining her legs, she let go of her precious tail and walked out of the sea. She couldn't help but feel betrayed and wronged. Her best friend had turned against her.

Not being able to take the pain anymore, she curled up on the beach as tears flowed through her eyes. The mermaid Queen was now lost.

And she feared what was about to come.
