𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐒 finally leaving her body. Esmeray wished that she was just waking up from her slumber and when she does so, she would find Triton smiling down at her with his gray eyes filled with love for her.

But the familiar irritating sound woke her up. Panic swept in her veins as her heart started to beat at a frightening pace. In her mind, she was aware that she was far from home, yet she refused to acknowledge it. Not before she opened her eyes to see it.

The wavy feeling of water didn't surround her. Sharp and painful light crept in her eyes, making them ache as she fluttered them open. Her dry throat pricked her like sharp cactus thorns. The beautiful voice of her betrayed her.

As she sat up on the bed, she examined herself. Strange white-colored material was covering her body, which made her agitated. Merfolk embraces nudity so having any coverings on them was strange yet irritating.

But her eyes widened when she saw the most essential part of her body missing - her tail had disappeared like it wasn't ever there. Instead of it, long and thick stick-like body parts greeted her. Esmeray remembered her teachings about sex, so she realized that she was in her ánthropos form. Due to her loss of touch from water, her body had adapted herself to what the Merfolk called - terrain habitat. Those stick-like parts were called legs by the Merfolk.

Esmeray was scared of it since she had only ever heard and read of it. Merfolks weren't allowed to leave the water to explore what laid beyond it, and those who did never returned.

The threat of the siren kept ringing her mind - she was now in the land of demons and it was a matter of time till she became the victim of her own murder.

She didn't want to die - she had reasons to live for, the most important one of them being her mate - Triton. They had dreamt of their future together; how they would strengthen the Merfolk species, have a big family, and raise their children to be the best rulers in the history of Merfolks. And now, she would never know how she would look like in her pregnant belly, or how Triton would spoil her when she carried his children.

The thought bought pain in her chest and her eyes dropped low. Stinging pain swept through her eyes. When she opened them again, she saw water on her hand resting on her leg. Her eyes widened as she touched her face. Water was leaking from her eyes!

She felt afraid already - was she dying?

Esmeray tried to remember what her teacher had taught her about their mating forms and concluded that she was crying, not drying. It was an unusual feeling since the Merfolk never cried. If they did, they would never know since they lived in water.

The needles that were initially inside her hand were now gone. She could have wanted to get up if she knew how to walk. This was the very first time she had legs, so she didn't know how to use them at all. It seemed to her that lying on the bed was her only option until of course, she found the sea and a way back home to Triton.

So, with a heavy heart and hope that she would live to see Triton again, she waited for one of the demons to barge in. It was terrifying to say the least since the poor mermaid was now in a land of strangers.

The door finally had opened, and familiar forest green eyes met her.

For some reason, her breath hitched as her eyes swept the handsome demon standing in front of her. His muscular build was that of a warrior and his sharp teeth were on a proud display. His skin was inked, like few of the Merfolks, and his black hair looked so soft that she resisted the urge to run her hands through them.

He was of no comparison to Triton, but he was somewhat there.

Esmeray was confused as to why she felt a pull towards that man since she already had a mate. She kept reminding herself that her heart, body, and soul belonged to Triton alone. This strange demon might be doing some magic on her and disturbing her emotions.

"Valesne? [Are you fine?]" the demon asked. His voice was silky yet manly. She could feel the authority in his posture and his tone so it was sure to her that the demon held the title of an elite.

But his language was unheard of.

As a mermaid, she was blessed with the ability to learn the language of different animals since they lived among the sea creatures. She could read through their mind without letting them know, and get a complete knowledge of their verse. But Esmeray was unsure if she wanted to do that.

Maybe if the demon realizes that she doesn't understand anything and is just a dumb creature, he would let her go. But then, letting her go meant he would kill her early.

"Scio te quasi mortua, sed oportet cognoscere quod factum est. Et ego dabo vobis in tempore vos postulo ut recuperabit. Ut etiamsi ad alpha, id est officium meum, ut vobis ad justitiam. Ita, si estis parati, ut sciam verba. [I know you almost died, but I need to know what happened. I will give you the time you need to recover. As an Alpha though, it is my job to bring you to justice. So, let me know if you are ready to talk.]" the demon said.

Lucian couldn't get his eyes off the she-wolf in front of him. There was an invisible connection between them which he couldn't point out. She was by far, the most beautiful she-wolf he had ever seen - even though he had a mate. A beauty can't be ignored, no matter what.

But, he was honest to his mate.

He loved Mia with all his heart. Goddess Selene had blessed him with her, after all.

The she-wolf didn't reply, instead, she stared at him with fear-stricken eyes. The wound on her neck had started healing yet it looked painful. The bite of a vampire takes time to heal, after all.

He sighed knowing that the girl wasn't going to reply to him anytime soon.

"Ego uale. Si nullius egeo: Martin vocant. Est quod vos can premere puga pyga tunc est vobis in auxilium, in mensa. [I am taking my leave. If you need anything, call Martin. There is a button next to you on the table which you can press for help.]" he said as he turned to take his leave.

Esmeray let out a sigh of relief when the demon took his leave.

Thousands of scenarios troubled her mind, each of them ended with her dying by the hands of the demon. The kindness in his eyes looked genuine but she didn't let it waver her. She was sure that it was just an illusion to make her comfortable with them so she could submit.

But that wasn't going to happen anytime soon.

She was the Queen of Merfolk.

And she wasn't going to settle down until she finds a way to her mate.
