𝐅𝐔𝐑𝐈𝐎𝐔𝐒 𝐖𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐒 𝐂𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐃 on to him, yet he was determined. The screaming voice of the woman still rang in his mind and he desperately fought against the wild water to reach her.

The blonde hair of hers was still floating in the seawater but her face was submerged in. He doubted that she was still alive. Yet, he had the will and hope that if he could get to her, she would be better.

His body had started protesting but his wolf gave him the strength to keep going. The water smashed on his face, making it hard for him to breathe. The saltiness of the sea tasted horribly in his mouth. He moved his arms and legs and kept on swimming.

Just a few more seconds and he would reach her.

With every ounce of energy left inside of him, he grabbed her from the water and pulled her with him. He didn't let go of her as he fought against the water for both of them. His mind was completely blank but his animalistic instinct to survive overcame him.

He needed to survive this.

As he swam in the other direction, the water tried to carry him with it. He prayed to Goddess Selene that she would be with him, that saving someone's life didn't mean that she would take away his.

The beach was in the sight and his body was tired.

And then as if not wanting to let him reach his destination, the water hit him with an unexplainable force and he couldn't take it anymore.

His eyes closed but he kept on moving. He was an Alpha for a reason, he simply couldn't give up that easily. Mia waited for him. This blonde stranger needed him to survive.

So, he swam.

He didn't stop until he could feel the soft sand below his body. Dragging the blonde with her, he laid her next to him as soon as his body laid on the sand. He vomited the excess salty water in his mouth and breathed in the oxygen.

Tiredness overcame him as he finally closed his eyes to drift into a deep slumber.

"𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐈𝐒 𝐇𝐄 going to wake up? It's been two hours!" the frantic sound of his mate woke him up. He felt tired but much better than he did when he came out of the sea.

He calmed down his racing heart as he opened his eyes. It took him some time to adjust to the sharp light.

He was in the pack hospital. The sounds of his beating heart greeted him and he could smell the stinging disinfectant. The needles on his hand irritated him as he wished nothing more to get them out. He groaned as he urged his body to finally wake up.

"You are awake!" he heard Mia scream in relief and the next thing he knew, he was enveloped in a hug so tight that he could barely breathe.

"I was so worried! I could feel you slipping away through the mate bond! What the hell were you thinking?" Mia said as she freed him of her tight grasp.

"Luna, I need to check on him. Please give way," the pack doctor, Martin said. Mia nodded, her eyes on Lucian all the time. He could see her terrible state - she was crying hysterically and the fear in her eyes didn't get unnoticed by him. Lucian cursed himself for being so reckless, but the sea was calling out for him.

He had to save the blonde stranger from drowning.

Suddenly remembering the reason why he risked his life, he turned to Martin who was checking his heartbeat and examining him again for any sign of injures. Thanks to his Alpha wolf, Lucian felt healed enough.

"Where is the girl I saved?" Lucian asks suddenly. He hoped that the stranger was alive.

Martin looked at his Alpha with a worried expression.

"I can't say anything as of now, Alpha. She is in a coma and I have no idea when she will wake up. We found an unidentified poison in her body. But..." the pack doctor said but stopped in between.

Lucian cocked his eyebrow and motioned him to continue. What was he trying to hide from him?

"Alpha, she had been bitten. The mark on her body won't heal even though her body healed quickly. Her wolf might have helped her heal the broken bones and everything but the mark doesn't go anywhere. I fear that she might have been bitten.... by a vampire because that mark certainly doesn't look like that of a mate," the doctor informed his Alpha.

Lucian remained quiet as he absorbed the information. The blonde was a mystery enough. The werewolves and vampires never liked each other but the peace treaty signed between them years ago ensured that they didn't interfere in each other's affairs.

Having a vampire bite a wolf was a crime, and even though Lucian hadn't even seen the girl, he was sure that he would do anything to bring justice to her. The poor girl was bitten and then thrown into the storming sea for dead.

"But why was the poison in her body unidentified? The vampire venom can be detected easily," Lucian said.

"I am not aware of that, Alpha. Maybe it is another kind of vampires because none of the samples we possess match with the ones in her body. That's why we are finding it hard to treat her," Martin replied.

Then the doctor bowed to his Alpha and Luna and took his leave. Lucian's brain was overworking. Maybe the girl is linked to the recent killings among the packs.

He needs to investigate her to ensure that she isn't a threat to his pack. He can't lose another pack member as that will create chaos among other pack members.

"You need to rest as of now, Lucian. Raphael is taking care of the pack duties and I will help him with them. I will get some food for you, now," Mia said. She then kissed him on the forehead.

But even the soothing smell of his mate couldn't give him the comfort he wished.

The thought of the blonde stranger plagued his mind.
