Chapter 22 JOURNEY

             PREVIOUSLY

I muttered the last part of the sentence in my heart.I placed my hands on his chest, pushing him slightly, but still no reaction from him, I was about to put my mouth on his to perform a mouth to mouth respiration since that is the only option left, when I heard a deep and dangerous voice.

"What are you doing"

His voice was unusually cold and chilling like ice, I turned to face him

"What am I doing, of course am trying to revive him, what do you think am..."

"By kissing him?"

He asked angrily, I rolled my eyes at him, seriously what is going on in that head of his

"It is called mouth to mouth respiration, how is it kissing him"

"No, you are not allowed to do that"

I rolled my eyes at him again, I couldn't help it, geez.. his beta is lying lifelessly on the ground and all he cares about is kissing.

"Alex, he don't have much time, his body is very weak and if we waste more time, he might not make it"

I tried my possible best to explain to him patiently, I don't want to lose myself and end up snapping at him.

"But, can't we fi...."

"No buts, or do you want to do it yourself, can you even do it"

I looked straight into his eyes, trying to guess what is going on in that head of his, does he think now is the time to show his jealous and possessive side.

"Alright, but is this the only way to revive him?"

He asked, still very reluctant  to let me do it.

"Will I be doing this if there is another way"

I asked him angrily.

"No, no"

"This is the only way and most effective way to revive him, please don't try to stop me again"

I said to him before I turned to Mato, I performed  mouth to mouth respiration on him again, but still no reaction from him, I am beginning to get anxious, did something happen to him apart from drowning, or did somebody push him in the river.

"What happened to him"

Alex asked when he saw my desolate and lost look, I shook my head at him

"We have to get him to the palace now, the royal physician will be able to revive him"

He nodded and proceeded to carry him, I decided to ask him the question in my heart all this while

"What happened to him, how did he end up like this, how did he end up here in this river, I don't think he drowned on his own basis, because I don't see why he would enter river intentionally when he knows the condition of his body"

I asked while trying to catch my breath, he is walking too fast and I have to catch up with him.

"We will know all these when we get to the palace, I don't know the details, but when he wakes up he can tell us what happened to him"

I signed, Mato is not the type that act dangerously or see what can endanger his life and put his head into it unless he is forced, he is always careful, am very sure this is not an accident, someone must have pushed him into the river knowing how weak he is.

Soon we arrived at the palace and the royal physician was already waiting for us, the power of mind linking, he must have mind linked him to be on the palace on his way here.

"Your majesty"

He bowed to Alex,

"High priestess"

He also bowed to me in greeting.

"Check what is wrong with him, he is not conscious yet "

Alex stated before the Royal physician even got to sit.

"Why is he like this now, he is supposed to be councious by now, I suppressed the poison last week, it shouldn't be like this , why..."

The Royal physician spoke while checking his body.

"He regained consciousness before but was drowned in the river...."

"Drowned, you...."

The Royal physician face paled, is his condition that worst or is it now incurable, what's with his reaction.

"What is it, how is he, what's happening?"

Before I could speak, Alex has already bombarded him with questions, am feeling something is definitely fishy here, else the Royal physician wouldn't have acted like that.

"His condition is getting worst and worst, the poison reacted again when he is in the river and now I have to suppress it"

"OK then, go ahead and suppressed it, we will find the....."

"That is not the problem, your majesty, where the lies is that after I suppressed  it again, he will not be able to hold on for more two weeks, after these three weeks if he is not given the antidote, am afraid....."

"What is the antidote"

I asked him anxiously, just three weeks, I can't take that risk.

"One is the herb I saw you with, it is.."

"What is it, please stop beating round the bush, someone life is in danger.."

"High priestess, you are familiar with it, it is called the Heliumatine flower, I saw you with it the other day, that was how I knew it was in your possession"

"Yes, yes I have the Heliumatine flower, I picked it when I went to the dark forest"

"The dark forest doesn't have such treasure"

"Please what is the other herb that is needed to cure him"

I didn't want Alex to ask me where  I got him it from, if Alex asked me in the presence of the Royal physician I have to say it, I don't want  him to know how and where I got it from.

"The other medicinal herb is the eye of the earth, it has almost gone extinct , so it will be extremely difficult to find it, if not impossible"

"What....., eye of the earth, is there really no other way to cure him"

"High priestess, the poison in his body is a rare poison without antidote and it kills fast, the only thing holding him up till now is that I have successfully suppressed it, it can only be cured by these two medicinal herbs that i mentioned and they are very rare, so that is the same as no antidote and that is why it is regarded as a cureless poison by most physicians"

I frowned, the eye of the earth has almost gone extinct, the only place it is that I can remember is the vampire kingdom and it is too risky to go there now, seeing that they colluded with the rogues, it is almost impossible to sneak into their kingdom now, I frowned even more, does this mean that Mato is going to die after three weeks.
