1 The Unfortunate Turned Fortunate

It has been, at most, 3 days since Michael moved into this old and rugged apartment, and he still wasn't used to his surroundings.

The reason he moved to this apartment so that he can be close to his University, and also his parents decided that it would be a change for their son to fend for himself, but of course they will still support him on basic needs, like the monthly bills for electricity and water, and the like.

As it was against his will, he was also a little happy for this "freedom", so he searched the internet for all the available apartments/houses for rent, and at last he found one, offered by a seemingly odd couple, p

It was also the most perfect timing, as a new virtual reality MMORPG was released today. It wasn't any normal game, as it was created by humans, but the game itself not controlled by them (humans). The game was still an early release so it still had no name, but they offered players a chance to play the game early, and if no problems occured, they will be listed as one of the first players in the history of the game.

So it was still 3 days before the enrollment, and he had enough money to buy a Basic VR Helmet, he quickly changed his clothes and ran to the appliances store who was selling the Helmets, and was quickly disappointed by the amount of players who was in the store,

"I wonder why I'm not surprised"

The annoyed Michael muttered, so he quickly ran to the bank and claimed the amount needed to buy two Helmets and ran back to the store, at this time, the number of people had decreased gradually.

"I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but the Helmets we sell are already consumed by our loyal customers.", the store manager said.

"Damn, the Helmets are already gone!?", one man who had just arrived was astonished at the store manager's little speech to the newcomers.

While the others were shocked, Michael wasn't, as this was just a strategy by the store to reduce their customers because of the mess they create. Michael needed to wait for 5 minutes before he could enter the store as the people went out to look for other stores selling VR Helmets. As he came in the store,

"Oh Michael, are you here for the Helmets?", the manager asked as he recognized the man coming in his store.

"Yes Sir, but you said your stores Helmets are already consumed", answered Michael, as this was always the strategy so that other people overhearing the conversation will not know the truth.

"That's true, come let's talk in my office, I'll prepare some tea or hot chocolates for you"

"That would work for me". As they came in the office, the manager asked his secretary to hold all his calls and meetings, or if they insist, change the schedule, then they discussed the terms for the Helmets.

After an hour of discussion, Michael obtained two Advanced VR Helmets, and this is what made Michael so joyous, as the Advanced Helmets not only make the experience in the video game more realistic* it also comes in a cheaper than normal price, which is 500 copper-silver coins**, while the normal is two times the discounted amount.

After leaving the store, he went directly to the University's dorm. and looked for room 301, which is the room where his friend, Jack, transferred from their hometown, with the same reason as Michael.

Knock, knock, knock

"Who's there!"

"Jack, it's me Michael!"

"Michael? Come on in!", when Michael was inside the room.

"Michael, it really is you!"

"Who did you expect?"

"Oh, I thought it was the landlord trying to get ahold of my "bills" again"

"Hahaha", they had a long conversation about the game they were planning in joining, as Michael was the brains, Jack is a little bit more pro in games, so they were a, if I may say, pro pair in video games, so Jack quickly agreed and accepted the Helmets for the game.

When Michael arrived at his apartment, he quickly ate, and then he turned on the Helmet for the game.

Michael swiftly entered Wisdom of Truth, his excitement was overflowing.

System: Please choose your desired class.

The game has different classes for each player, Mages, Swordsmen, and Clerics, and a lot of sub-classes.

Mages- Elementalists, Cursemancers, Wizards, Witches (they're just the same)

Swordsmen- Knights, Assassins, Berserkers, Guards (they're mostly the jobs by NPCs, as you'll see in the next chapters)

Clerics- Healers, Oracles, and the fabled Nuns

Michael chose his specialty, Assasin.
