2 Chapter 2: Growth Skill?

When Ray woke up he was instantly stunned, he thought everything that happened yesterday was a dream. Until a familiar sound and string of words appeared in front of him.

[Ding! The Growth Skill: Weapon Growth, has been fully assimilated!]

Ray blinked a few times in confusion, he was just telling himself it was a a dream but now it seemed that it wasn't. He quickly calmed himself and got used to his situation.

"So system, what is this 'Weapon Growth' skill?"

Ray asked, because yesterday when the system had given him a gift he received a growth skill. He guessed the name meant the skill would grow so he never questioned if, but he was confused about what the skill was.

[Well you see, any weapon that the host likes using and is registered in the system, will grow. And example would be if you had a wooden sword, the swords cutting power, and durability would grow. As long as you fulfill the requirements your wood sword could cut steel like butter. But it would only work on your registered weapon, which the host may only have 3 of.]

Ray took a second to digest that information, he was naturally a sharp boy so he had a question.

"But what if its like a bow and arrow, would each take up one slot or would it count as one weapon? And if so, how would the arrow grow if when I shoot it I would have to get another one? Wouldn't that just reset the arrows progress?"

The system raised its illusionary eyebrows.

[Oh? I see the Host is quite sharp, you see for a weapon like that the system would automatically generate arrows for you. Except it would be a limited amount at a time, this is a passive skill when using Bows. But to acquire it you must have the [Archer] class, and it is not exactly easy since to earn a class you must undergo a test.]

Ray stroked his chin as if he had an invisible beard, he then nodded agreeing that this made sense. He then asked another question.

"So could I change my registered weapons if I don't want one anymore? Lets say I have my slots all filled up but I wanna switch the spear to a hammer for the third slot."

[Ah! Well thats no problem since the Host will receive another registration slot every time you level up 5 times!]

"Also, how would I get a class and why are they different from just using the weapon? You said something about a test right?"

[It looks like you pay attention to details Host, the class test is optional and you can select it as soon as you register a weapon, just let me know if you want to take it. Although thats not advised because once you fail the test you must pay using EXP to take another test, which will be harder the second time. And classes are different from simply using the weapon because the system will grant mana infused skills to the host, free of charge instantaneously. Also the skills and buffs of the classes are far above what is achievable for normal humans, which is why a class is slightly difficult to obtain to prevent absolute unfairness.]

Ray pondered this for a while, he then nodded since he understood the logic behind it.

"Okay I understand all of this but how would I-"

Ray's door was abruptly opened causing him to pause his sentence, it was Bastion.

"Oh? It seems that your awake sleepyhead, thats why you shouldn't eat so much or you'll go into hibernation."

Bastion said while walking over to Ray and grabbing him and ruffling his hair. Ray laughed at this because Bastion always does this when he wakes up.

"Alright, lets go eat kid, oh and, don't think your skipping training today, hmph."

Bastion said with a smirk as he walked out of the room, but before he left he opened the door all the way and a sweet smell permeated through the room.

Ray recognized this smell instantly, it was a special skill of his, as a food lover. He immediately whipped around and pulled his clothes of of his drawer, he put them on and in 5 minutes he was downstairs full dressed and ready to eat.

[Host didn't you have a questi-]

"Not now, food first questions later."

The system was instantly dumfounded at its host, it was just complimenting him for being smart and cunning. But now his host was immediately drawn in by food and lost all rationality.

[*sigh*]

…..

» At the dinning table

(Bastions POV)

'That boy, I guess he doesn't notice that I know what he's been doing. But still, as long as he's not in-danger its alright, but I am curios as to what kind of power that thing will give him. But one thing I am sure of, his future will be extremely bright, and if thats the case. I must do my best as a father to ensure he gets there, even if..'

His thoughts were instantly interrupted when he saw a boy run down the stairs, his eyes were glued to the food on the so he did not notice he was about to trip.

'*sigh* Sometimes this boy makes me so anxious, if I didn't have good control of telekineses magic I swear he would've been injured so many times by now.'

With a flick of his wrist Ray started to float over to the table, a chair was pulled out for him and he was placed into it.

The boy instantly started wolfing down his food as if it was his last meal. Bastion stared at him with a smile, he was happy to have someone to cook for.

"Ray, I've decided to send you to school."

The boy instantly dropped his utensils and looked up at Bastion with a shocked expression.

"Whwha~"

Bastion the glared at the boy angrily.

"Swallow your food before you talk, thats rude."

With a gulp the boy swallowed his food and licked his lips with a satisfied expression. He then turned back towards Bastion with a betrayed expression.

'Im gonna miss you kid, but this is the best for your future. I'll give you something you'll use for the rest of your life, you might even remember me when using it'

Bastion thought with a warm smile, he looked toward the boy with caring eyes that held a hint of sadness. The boy could feel the warmth and tinge of cold in his eyes and asked.

"But- but why are you sending me away? Are you coming with me? Why must I go to some random school somewhere, aren't you better than a teacher? I mean you know alot too right?"

*sigh*

"I do know alot, but it is not my j- my profession, they can teach you more than I can and it is important for your future. Don't think I don't know about whatever that thing was that appeared in your room yesterday."

(Back to Ray's POV)

'He knows!'

[BEEEEEP! Someone has found out about the system! Suggestion: Flee!]

'Stop it! Bastion is a good person he would never hurt me over this, cant you see?'

[Scanning Host's memories to gather assessment. Scan Complete, Bastion has been marked as Friendly. Retracting Warning Protocol.]

"B-but how did you know?"

Ray asked cautiously, realizing if he knew that then that meant he could always be spying on him.

"Well for one thing, when a person such as myself feels a weird energy suddenly appear in their house, I check it out. But just to be safe I used my mana eyes to see through your door in-case it was an intruder. Come to find out you actually awakened some kind of special power!"

Bastion said while smiling at him, Ray awkwardly smiled back somewhat avoiding his gaze.

"Well, all I have to say is, good luck. I have a gut feeling that whatever this power is, it will help you reach great heights. And to help you achieve your future goals, I'm going to send a letter to an old friend of mine. He will help you enroll, but that will take about three weeks from now."

He looked Ray in the eyes and said seriously;

"Ray, today I'm going to seriously train you In the way of the sword, I've taught you basics and you've quickly learned and adapted to them. Your much better than ordinary kids your age, but where I'm going to send you is where the best of the best reside. So there are many people on your level, and probably some way beyond you."

Bastion stood up from his chair and walked over to Ray and flashed an evil grin.

"So? I will teach you the best sword technique in the whole empire. Noone else knows it except two people Me, and my best friend. And now, you the third user of my personally created technique; The Dragon Slaying Sword."
