Chapter 2

Chapter 2

We managed to find a nice little inn called The Four Seasons, and get a two bed room for a pretty good price. Though the clerk at the desk was dressed kinda strange and looked at us with wide eyes, she still accepted our money without much fuss.

She-- Amy, her name tag said-- handed us a hard thin card and pointed us to a set of double doors

"Your room number is 112, it's on the second floor. Have a good day and thank you for choosing the Four Seasons."

Amy said and called up the next person in line.

Me and Fahren shared a look and walked over to the set of double doors. Fahre n reached out and pushed open the doors to reveal a staircase going up.

"The lady said the second floor, right? Let's go"

Fahren said as he headed toward the steps. I followed soon after.

We stayed silent as we walked up the wooden steps, occasionally a loud creak would sound out and echo around, but it was quiet and peaceful.

The stairs were short and we soon entered the second floor. A plaque on the wall said 'rooms 105-115 ', so we followed the signs pointing us in the direction of our room. The hallways were made of solid brown wood, as everything else was, and the only lighting were lamps occasionally placed on the walls.

Soon enough, we reached room 112 and Fahren slid the card through the slot, unlocking the door and letting us inside.

The room was quaint, to say the least. There wasn't really anything special in it. A double bed and two dressers, a bathroom, and a small area that I would label as the kitchen.

Fahren immediately dove on the bed and sighed in relief, sinking completely into the soft looking sheets.

"Having fun there?"

I questioned sarcastically, doing the exact same thing my brother had done but with more finesse.

"Loads"

Fahren responded in a deadpan voice, drousily waving hid hand toward me.

I snorted, and he snored.

It was almost sundown by now. The light being lost rapidly and soon being replaced by lanterns.

People closed up shops and entered their homes, mothers making dinner for their families and children coming in from playing with friends, tired and hungry.

A couple passed by the window of our room, holding hands and happily chatting about each other's day, oblivious to the world.

I sighed

I wish I had that.

--

Fahren woke up first for a change. As I blearily got up and went to the bathroom, he was already heating up two bagels for breakfast and getting dressed.

"Wassup sleepy head, rest well?"

Fahren asked as he ruffled my hair, making me slap away his hand and grumble about how early it was.

He just laughed.

I threw on a dull brown shirt and some black jeans before turning around to him and holding out my hand. Thankfully, he noticed I was extremely tired and gave me a mug filled with coffee, to which I chugged immediately.

"Better,"

I finally spoke as I slammed the mug down on the counter, gesturing for a refill.

"Y'know, I heard there was a fair going on tonight"

Fahren commented, casually stirring his coffee with his pinky. I narrowed my eyes

"Yeah... and?"

I asked suspiciously, giving all my attention to him

"Well, I was thinking we could go and... y'know.... "

He trailed off, mumbling into his cup

"No, I don't know, what are we going to do?"

I snapped back, making him shrink back and giggle nervously

"What if we perhaps, so....."

"What was that?"

"Soci....."

"Hmm?"

Fahren took a deep breath

"What if we socialized?!?!"

I immediately shook my head

"Gross, rejected"

Fahren squeezed out crocodile tears

"But it'll be fun!!"

He whined, pulling on my shirt

"No it won't, I bet you're just gonna be distracted looking for that hot guy you ran into the other day."

He gasped with a look of betrayal

"Well! I bet if we went your probably be looking for the girl with the huge tits!"

It was my turn to gasp.

"How darE YoU I WouLD NeVEr"

"YOU SO WOULD"

"NO I WOULDN'T"

"YES YOU WOULD"

"NO U"

"NO U"

This went on for a while before we finally calmed down.

At least I was awake now. :/

----

After my brother and I finished arguing, we managed to get some solid breakfast and get dressed before heading out.

First order of business was to set up a stall.

In this big trade city, you needed a permit to actually set anything up, so Fahren was elected to go and see what he could do about it, while I did some grocery shopping for basic necessities.

The streets of the plaza were wide and busy, vendors shouting across the sea of people, trying to sell their many various products for cheap. Villagers moved from one place to another, holding baskets filled with merchandise and miscellaneous items they thought were a good deal.

Mothers held the hands of their children and men walked around carrying heavy boxes from the latest cargo drop, while nobels traveled around in horse-drawn carriages, shooing away pedestrians in the way of the horses hooves and carriages wheels.

It was quite a lively scene, people just living their lives in the only way they know how, and enjoying it.

So peaceful.

I carried a medium sized leather sachel with a small bag of money tied around my belt, and my plain brown clothes hid me from the greedy vendors wrath, so I casually walked around buying fruit and soap, a little hairbrush because the one we had broke, and some bread to fill my belly in the middle of the night.

Naturally, I also got some cheap wine to indulge in with my brother, but let's not sweat the small stuff ;).

Soon enough, the sun was going down and the streets were thinning. Mothers going inside to prep for dinner and husbands going home to eat delicious food after a hard day's work.

And I decided to head back to the Four season hotel to find my brother and share some wine with him. Hopefully there'll be a permit to set up a shop along with some good stories, and we'll fall asleep next to each other into alcohol infused dreams.
