Year unknown: The Great War

There is a child, crying, pleading for his mother who was nowhere to be seen, while everyone was running around. chaos everywhere, people's agony could be heard from miles, children cries were buried under the panic. The houses were burning and the ashes were soaked by the dark sky and red moon. Everyone was in panic, what seemed like a beautiful village, was on fire. Not far away you could hear the sounds of swords clashing. The biggest battle possibly written in history It seemed like. Blood, metal, swords and death, everything that was needed in a war was present here, no, it was worse than a war.

Battle cries and commanders shouting their orders to their men were all over the bloody ground. The sky was red, in the darkest hour possible, as if the blood in the ground met in heaven. Suddenly, a beaming light, not far from the battle emerged down on Earth. Everyone's face was shining bright from the light, as if the they were looking at the sun. Everyone stopped, gazing and awing at the bright light. The light came up from the sky and was meeting at the ground, while dissipating the dark bloody sky and embodying everything in holy light. This, marked the end of the bloodlust and war, greatest, and bloodiest ever to be recorded.

Part I

Current date: year 404 after the great war

"Layn how long will you take to get the clothes down!"

A quite lovely voice of a lady was replied with a young kid's voice.

"Coming ma"

The kid, Layn Vassago, was a boy who looked in his mid-teens, came running to a middle-aged woman with a bundle of cloths in his hand.

The boy had silky looking dark red hair, covering his ears and his left eye brow. His pupils were darkish red, while his ears were longer than a human, but shorter than that of an elf. The body was nothing special than an average teen, and so was his height.

"If you run like this you will for sure trip down and get yourself hurt, but who can stop you."

She sighed, with a voice that seemed to be one where you know you can't do anything, not hopeless, but something that seems to repeat itself.

The women seemed to be in her middle 30s age, but still had a voice of a lovely young women in her 20s. She had short black hair, matching the level of her neck. She too had dark red pupils and ears similar to the boy, definitely not of a human, but she was prettier than most of the ladies out there. She was wearing a maid's outfit, not clean enough, but not too dirty or shabby.

"really Ma? He is going to the Greatest Highschool in the whole kingdom, and you expect this useless filth to listen to anyone?"

The one who made that statement was a short girl who seemed to be around 12. She had long black hair and same type of ears and pupil like that of the boy and the woman. She did not have an angry tone, but that of a stressed one. As if this was not new.

"Haha Lily, I knew you believed in me. I can't wait for tomorrow! I'm going to be one of the seven sins holder! Mark my words." says Layn

"I never supported you, we know you would never be one of the sin holders, utter nonsense. Huh." says Lily with a pout and a cute face

The mother intervenes with laughter and a smile in her face, while holding a bundle of clothes.

"now now, this is not the time to fight. Lily worries about you Layn, don't take it to heart. We demons do seem to take things too ahead."

"Mother!"

"Hahaha"

With the angry pout of Lily and laughing Layn, and the smile on mother's face, the atmosphere was pretty lively.

The place where they are is a wooden log house, deep into the trees. Nothing much special was to the place, it seemed pretty ordinary. There were birds chirping, flowers blooming in the vast green land while the trees covered the house. This was a part of the country-side, far away from the capital Thiva of the Demon territory, kingdom Thievens.

"What is this all laughing matter about? What is going on?"

The voice came from the door, where a big man was standing, seemingly holding something in his shoulder. He seemed like a strong person, who might possibly been a warrior, of course, he was a demon too.

His big masculine voice bestowed silence across the small hall, the atmosphere suddenly changed into a tense one.

"Oh honey, you are back? It seems you brought some food, I'll hurry up and prepare for the meal then. Please make yourself comfortable"

With a strong gaze to the mother, he nodded and dropped the thing on his shoulder down the floor, and went straight ahead to a room. He didn't bother to look at both the children standing there, as if he didn't care at all.

"why is father always so angry and in bad mood? Did we do something wrong?" Lily asks with a soft voice and sad-like look

"to be honest, I have no clue. It's not like I expected him to do anything special for us, but tomorrow I'm not going to be here, at least he could tell me something. I hate that man; I don't want to call him my dad"

Layn answered with a cold look, while looking at the broad back of the man walking towards a room.

The man sat on a wooden chair, with a cup which had beer in it. He was looking outside from an open door, thinking something. On a close look, he had a bold rough face, narrow eyes and big brows. He had rough facial hair, and seemed to be in his late 40s. His hair was dark brownish, and had a scar in his left cheek.

A person was standing behind the man, the person's face was brightly visible as the light from the door laid upon his face.

"Father, tomorrow I'll be set to go to Thievens Sins Highschool"

"hm..."

Layn got a cold, meaningless reply. It was clear that Dad didn't seem to give any interest to Layn's word. Yet,

"Father, I, will not be back any time soon. For what we know, it may take me years after I graduate-"

"I know that"

Yet again a cold reply. Layn was getting angrier and annoyed every time he talked to his father. He had no idea why would his father not react to him, even though he was adopted, he felt that was no way a father should treat his son, adopted or not.

Layn did not say anymore, he turned around and walked, with his head down. His footsteps could be heard loud as he was walking out of the room. His mother was standing right there at the exit of the room, watching everything in silence. Even though Layn's hair covered his eyes while he was going, the mother knew tears were running down his eyes.

Layn's highschool dorm life begins from chapter 4. The previous chapters are to introduce characters that will reappear in the future.
