4 A visit to the seer (Ubbe POV)

It has been a few months since young Fenrisúlfr has been living with me and Astrid, I've decided to go visit the seer. I'm not an enthusiast of visiting the magical oracle, he makes me uncomfortable but I want to know how connected to the gods Fenrisúlfr is.

'hope the seer isn't too cryptic in his answers of Fenrisúlfr's fate'

As I approached the hut, I was going to knock but before I did I heard the hoarse voice of the seer come from behind the linen flap woven with bones.

"Come in young Ubbe, I've been waiting to see you"

So I lifted the flap and entered the dark hut, I couldn't really see his face. He was completely covered in a dark cloak, but the table in front of him was laid out with runes and a comforting earthen smell permeated the air.

"Hmph, I guess you were expecting my visit and you know why I'm here this winter morning?" I snorted in mild annoyance and queried the ancient seer. This man was a seer even before my grandfather Brodir was born, he must look decrepit.

"I was young Ubbe and I know why your here, but let me hear it in your own words so I can speak with the gods and recount what was disclosed to me" he replied in that gravely voice I can't seem to be fond of.

"Ugh, sure what can you tell me about the young boy Fenrisúlfr who came to my home at the end of the summer months?" I replied indignantly, this is why I'm not a fan of the seer, he always leads you by the nose. Just looking at the runes on the table I could hazard a guess what he was going to say but I wanted to hear it come from his own mouth.

"Ah yes the child of Fjörgyn, he is blessed by many gods and the day Sköll attempts to eat Sól (eclipse), he will awaken as a wolf and Odin will bless him as a warrior. The runes additionally mentioned the magic of a variety different to my own. This boy has a great journey that he will begin to walk in Wessex" he responded croakily it wasn't what I expected at all.

'hmm so Fenrisúlfr is a child of earth and when the wolf Sköll attempts to eat Sól the sun he'll awaken as a wolf? Odin's blessing? Well, Odin is a wolf god in some cases. But Wessex? What does the boy have to do in Wessex across the sea on that island of monks? Maybe something to do with his magic? Oh Odin! he's magic! No wonder there's Yggdrasil on his back. That's it I'll train the boy in everything I know, Astrid can teach him the runes I was never as good as her at them'

I was lost in thought as the seer held his palm to me, I wasn't paying attention still thinking about what was just announced to me about the young blonde-haired child.

"Ubbe just one more thing, bring the boy to me when he's seven winters old he should be three winters old on the new moon after yule," the seer asked breaking me from my thoughts. As I looked at his outstretched hand, I reached over and licked his palm. It had a peculiar taste like a mixture of both sweet berries and soil.

I stood up and left on my way home to inform Astrid of the seers' prophecy of the young cub in our home.
