23 The True Danger Of Monsters

*Bang* *Bang*

Two bullets flew across the roam with immeasurable haste.

*Cling* *Clunk*

The monsters both responded in time, barely avoiding it by ducking as they charged together at Asper. Asper who had gone for the head, was surprised by this sudden movement and their growing intelligence, but didn't step back.

He too charged with his knife in hand, quick and powerful steps, each covering a hefty distance as he did so. He had already realized this but it continuously astonished him. His movements were faster and more fluid than ever, his body moved just the way he and his mind wanted it to.

He first went for the monster on the left, even though he was moving faster, his thoughts were having difficulty, adjusting to the speed. Despite that, he kept going.

The two monsters were together, and being attacked twice at once would have been much harder to deal with. That's why, once he was only a few steps ahead of the monster, he shifted all his weight and balance to his left leg before leaping to the monster's side.

His movement was incredibly fast, but predictable.

The monster which Asper had jumped beside was able to quickly turn and divert it's direction to the right where he was, and so was the monster beside it.

The monster beside it however, couldn't directly attack Asper as it's companion's body was blocking the way. Meanwhile the companion leapt straight at Asper with it's mouth wide open, ready to bite down on Asper.

It went just as Asper had planned but he knew he only had one moment. His expression completely still as his mind was only focused on one thing.

'Kill'

With his finger already on the trigger and the nuzzle of his glock pointed at the head of the monster, without a hint of hesitation, he pulled down on the trigger.

*Tuck*

In that instant, Asper's eyes widened. The mag was empty, his plan had failed. Furthermore, The monster which had been beside the one which had plunged at him had suddenly leaped in from above.

A complete miscalculation.

But that didn't stop him. He still kept his focus.

However, in that instance, the system took action as if having read Asper's one single thought in that time.

'Faster.'

<Placing all remaining points into agility, Confirm?>

"Confirm." Asper muttered

<Confirmed>

The instant he had said that, blood spurted out as he passed right by the monster's side, dragging his sharp electric knife through it's ribs as he did so.

His movement was fast, the monster hadn't expected it. But even with the momentum, the cut was too shallow and weak.

It was in that moment that he realized it. He lacked strength.

*Slash!*

Being unable to drag the knife further, the monster used the opportunity, a swung is arm at Asper, cutting off strands of his hair as he ducked to avoid it.

Again. It happened again. Asper was able to avoid the monster's attack, even though it had come from an angle outside of his field of view due to how close he was to it's body. How? Was he simply lucky? Was it due to focus alone? The answer was neither.

The reason was simple, he could see it. He could see their movements, or rather that was the only thing he could see. Such was thanks to the system. Right before the monster had attacked, he received a notification.

<Conditions met>

<Skill Adapt has levelled up!>

<Adapted to monster's movements and speed>

<Trajectories calculated>

<Temporary visual acuity boost>

Asper's eyes moved hastily, left, right and up as he quickly took a step back away from the monster's reach and leaned back, barely avoiding the monster the Wolgur's paws as he did so.

In that instant, as he watched as the monster's paws and sharp claws passed right by his eyes in a sweep. He shifted all of his weight to the left side of his body, seemingly falling over to the side, only to end up rolling instead.

The sudden roll, allowed him to avoid the other monster which had suddenly leaped at him while the other monster ducked down to give it space.

Scary, it was truly frightening how coordinated and intelligent these monsters were. But none of that mattered to Asper, it was only kill and survive.

The roll was Asper's only option and allowed him to escape death's door, but it had also put Asper in a bad position. By the time, he had completed the roll, he suddenly saw the Woglur's face ahead of his.

For only a moment, it's fierce eyes stared deep into his before it suddenly bashed into him.

Asper was sent flying back, before crashing into the feeble walls, temporarily stunning him. The monster's used that as an opportunity and both charged at him again with their mouths wide open as if they were looking at their prey.

<Warning: Health reaching critical levels>

<Body on verge of shutting down>

<Health below 5%>

These weren't humans. They weren't animals either, but monsters. They had full and free control of their bodies and on top of that, they were coordinated. They could freely perform a series of unavoidable attacks together at such a range. Fighting them at close range was basically suicide.

Asper was hasty, he wanted to finish things off quick, so he took the risk.

'It knew that I'd avoid another slash so it slammed into me instead. I saw the trajectory but my body wasn't able to react fast enough…'

Asper's body slid down the wall as his eyes watched the Wolgur's hurriedly making their way over at him as if they didn't want to waste any other second to cherish it's meal.

Being thought of in such a way, really pissed Asper off.

'Even monsters have it… That look. I guess Hunters, really are monsters…' Asper thought to himself as the grin on his face grew wider.

"COME AT ME!!!" Asper shouted out as the Wolgur's were only a few feet away.

In that instant, he quickly pulled out a second glock from a holster being on his hip before suddenly thrusting half of his arm along with the glock into the monster's mouth.

*BANG!*
