27 The Hunter Becomes The Hunted.

*Step* *Step* *Crunch* *crunch*

The three men walked inside of the building, scouting the area as they did so. Even though the possibility of either of them getting hurt didn't occur to their minds, they were still wary of traps and obstacles which the kid might have come up with against them.

The first floor was completely empty. The floor was filled with shards of glasses which would make a crunching sound, giving away their location with every step. The walls were dirty, the windows all broken. It looked just like any other broken down building around.

If there was one thing that helped this one stand out just a little, was the fact that there were three floors. It seemed to have had more but from the outside they noticed that the top was broken off.

"Let's make this quick." Said the man with the tattoo on the back of his hand as he made his way up the stairs.

His rifle wasn't readied and he wasn't taking it seriously at all. He was in a hurry to get things over with and go back home.

In this situation, he was a hunter, hunting a prey which wouldn't pose so much as a threat to him. His guard was completely down.

"Oi- don't wonder off on your own." Said their leader. The one with the Mohawk.

"Why not? Don't tell me you're really afraid of a kid-"

*Clink* *Beep*

The man was interrupted by the sound of a beep which had come from a cube which had suddenly come falling right by his face.

"Huh-"

The leader's eyes widened as he realized what it was and leapt backwards, right out of the building. The other man with a tattoo on his head however, watched as his shield was automatically deployed.

*Beep* *BOOM!*

The sound of an explosion resounded through the outside of the ruins as dust and smoke burst out of the bottom of the building. The building shook violently from the shock alone, parts of debris went flying off as cracks formed on it's walls.

All of this could be seen by the leader as he watched from the outside.

*Whistle*

"This crazy son of a bitch…" The leader muttered with a grin on his face. "Guess, I'll have to take this seriously." He added as he giggled before walking inside.

He walked into the smoke which had slowly began to fade away.

"Hey, Rook you still alive?" The leader asked.

"Yeah, my shield was deployed in time. But not his." Rook replied as he pointed at the burnt dismembered corpse of the man who had been with them.

"We had warned him, he got what he wanted." Said the leader as he made his way over to his corpse.

"H-Hey… Are we still going to go after the kid? That explosion just now, must've attracted a few monsters…"

The leader who heard this, let out a sigh as he went up the stairs.

"So what? We're near the outside of the ruins. No powerful monsters will make their way here. Besides, the reason that guy died was because he had his guard down. Unfortunately for that Kid, he won't get that lucky again." The leader replied with a wide grin.

He was enjoying it, he was truly enjoying it. He wouldn't have preferred it any other way. The hunt needed to be fun.

Seeing as how he wasn't going to be able to convince the leader otherwise, he went along with him and together they both went up the stairs.

<You have slain a human>

<Inspect details?>

<You have levelled up!>

<You have levelled up!>

'Holy- Two levels? From one grenade?' Asper thought to himself in disbelief.

He wanted to quickly check how much exp he had gained, but decided to leave it for later. Now he needed to stay focused on his survival.

'Two levels so four stat points…'

"Apply four stat points to vitality."

<Apply 4 stat points into vitality, confirm?>

"Confirm."

Just as he confirmed it, Asper could hear footsteps coming from down below. They were going up the stairs again.

Asper quickly gave a look around. There were countless pillars which he could hide behind and shoot them from and a staircase which led to the third floor in case he would need to retreat.

From the sounds coming from downstairs, he assumed there would be over two hunters left if not two. The staircase which they would come from was on the other side so no matter what, all he would have to do is stay far from them and shoot.

'What's my health at?' Asper questioned.

<Response: 54/170>

'Show me my adaptation list again.'

A list popped up in front of Asper, it was a list showing all of the adaptations he had active on him.

<<Adaptation-list>>

<Adapted to fear>

<Adapted to anxiety>

<Adapted to temperature>

<Adapted to pistol>

<Adapted to external injury (right arm)>

<adapted to internal injury (right arm)>

<Adapted to dehydration (Thirst)>

<Adapted to Hunger>

<View effects?>

<Show time remaining?>

'No, only show effects on pistol adaptation>.'

<Effects on pistol: 25% Accuracy boost with single-handed fire-arms>

Upon seeing this, Asper couldn't contain his grin. It was just like before, he had gained the pistol adaptation again. Although it didn't look like much, it reassured him that he wouldn't miss.

Being reassured of such a fact, helped improve his focus and get completely rid of any amount of nervousness he could possibly have.

Asper's mind was completely calm. In fact, he had never felt so free.

*Crunch*

The footsteps were approaching the top of the stairs, they were about the reach the second floor. Asper readied both of his glocks and grabbed onto each one of them with each hand.

He took in a deep breath before letting it out and peeking through the pillar at the edge of the staircase. The moment a head, popped out, he would shoot it.

That was the plan until-

*Clink*

Asper's eyes watched as a oval/round-shaped with a pineapple or baseball appearance object flew across the room.

His eyes widened once he realized what it was before he quickly shut them.

'OH sh-'

He motioned his arms to cover his ears but wasn't fast enough

*BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP*
