Ruby
In the back of the ambulance, Ruby sat holding Tommy's hand. The paramedics gave him oxygen. When they rolled him into the emergency room, Ruby kept her hold on him.
"Sorry, miss, but you'll have to let go." A nurse patted her shoulder. "We need to get him into surgery."
She nodded and wrapped her arms around herself. Please be okay. Despite the waiting room only have a few people, Ruby couldn't sit still. She paced back and forth. Rose and Jimmy entered the waiting room.
One look at the expression of grief and caring on Rose's face and a whole flood of tears erupted.
Rose hugged and her and stroked her back. "It's okay, love. Really. Tommy is strong, he'll pull through."
"B-but I-I didn't get t-to tell him," she hiccupped through her sobs, "that I love him."
"I think deep down, he knows. All we can do is pray."
