1 Chapter I - The World

"I still think this is kind of silly, but Sophie said it would be good to write here, it was hard to find the materials to put this diary together, so it better be worth it. How do you start writing in a diary? And why am I writing down everything that I am thinking? Anyway, today was fun, I finally got to go to the Yekun Forest, we went with the Madre, she didn't let me take anything, but I'll still go back there! And..."

- MAX!

A boy was lying in a vast field of tall grass, concentrating as much as possible on what he writes in his new journal; he barely notices the events around him, the passage of time, people coming and going. In the distance the boy hears a voice shouting his name: "Max", the voice calling him was female, the boy lost concentration and quickly hid the diary inside his jacket.

- So you couldn't resist the power of the diary. - An evil and sarcastic laugh accompanies the girl's speech.

The voice that spoke to Max was that of an old coincidence, she had long blonde hair in a platinum tone, her eyes were big and blue like two sapphires in her face, the affection of the face of an innocent child, which did not match her personality.

- Diary? I don't have anything here, and stop scaring me! - Max says in an irritated tone.

- I called you several times and you didn't answer.

Sophie notices an object hidden in Max's coat, quick as a cheetah, she jumps towards him knocking him down, she puts her hand inside his coat looking for the diary, which she easily finds and pulls it out to read.

- So what's this here Maxwell? Let's see - she makes the same sound normally seen in detective investigation series.

She opens the diary right on the first page and sees what the boy was writing before she interrupted him:

- I wonder if there is something about me in here? - Sophie wonders.

The girl was sitting on Max's stomach while quietly reading the diary, the boy is already turning purple without air, then with a sudden movement knocks her to the grass, because of the fall Sophie drops the diary, so Max quickly picks it up and puts it away.

- This is for future notes, okay? As you know I will be a great explorer.

- Jeez, you haven't the faintest idea how to treat a real lady-The girl stands up, wiping the dust from her now not-so-clean dress.

- Lady? You?" - Max sneers.

The boy receives a blow faster than lightning and is instantly knocked out by Sophie, who had been annoyed by the comment.

- You are very impolite, you must learn some manners.

While Max was agonizing on the ground they both spotted a butterfly flying past them, but not a simple butterfly, by the looks of it, it came from Yekun's forest. It had four wings that kept changing colors inside the prism, it flew in a strange trajectory, but always moving forward, it's at this moment that the mood between Max and Sophie changes completely, the two sit down on the grass next to each other leaning against a tree that provided shade for them to rest from the heat of the day. The two children look up to the sky with a look of inspiration; and inhale deeply. A breeze blows, causing some of the fallen leaves under the tree to fly away.

- Max, what do you think the world is like beyond here? -she asks while looking at the boy.

- I don't know, but I can imagine that it must be incredible with creatures never seen before. - He answered with a smile on his face.

Their rambling moment is interrupted by a woman calling out to them:

- Children come, it's time for lunch!

The two get up.

- We're coming, Madre! - Max takes Sophie's wrist and pulls her towards a rocky wall close to the field. - Come with me I want to show you something.

- There, there! - exclaims Sophie.

After a few seconds of walking without any problems, there they were facing the wall. In the middle of the stones there was a sort of hiding place, with several camouflaged objects:

- Look, I got this map, it's big, but look at this...

Max explained the map, which had all the coordinates, but strangely only the region of Yekun - which was where they lived - was on the map, the rest was blank.

- First of all Max, how did you get this map? - Sophie asks.

- Remember that merchant who came here one day? So... I sort of borrowed it without him knowing.

- You stole it? Look at that, goody-goody Maxwell stealing. - He flashed a mischievous smile.

- It doesn't matter. How about you and I run away from here and explore the world?

- What? But what about the kids at the orphanage? And the Madre? How will we survive?

- Nah, don't even worry, look, I have supplies. - He pointed to the objects among the stones, judging by the quantity the boy had been accumulating resources for a few months. - And the children have their Madre. Sophie, with my intelligence and your courage, we will be the first to discover the world... think, we can be the masters of the world!

- Oh I don't know... but then again, you're completely useless without me, so I have to go.

Max is happy, so they start to plan their escape, when the Madre calls them again, they end up pausing all this madness, and run towards the orphanage finding the Madre waiting for them at the door.

- Where have you children been? - Madre asks angrily.

- I told you, I'm not a child. - Max replies angrily.

- You're only thirteen, you're still babies. - Madre began to squeeze Max's face.

- You know how it is, Madre, Max and his exploratory ways, I had to look for him while he was watching the Yekurian animals. - replied Sophie.

- Very well, come in then.

They both went in and headed for the dining hall, lunch there was always something fun, there were kids of all ages, so when they got together it always caused a mess. Sophie and Max as the older ones in the orphanage, most of the time had to be responsible and take care of the younger ones, but who really took care of everyone was the Madre, she was basically the owner of the house, and one of the main founders.

After a lot of messing around, lunch time was over, all the children had some free time, to play or do whatever they wanted, since the period reserved for studies was in the morning.

The afternoon was still calm and quiet, nothing out of the routine, the sun was slowly giving way to the bright moon, soon the children had to go to their rooms.

The orphanage was a large house around a field of tall grass and a few trees and flowers, to the right there was a huge rocky wall, and to the left a path that had a fork, one side led to the Central City of Yekun and the other to the Yekun Forest; from the Central City it was possible to go to all regions. In the south was where the winter season reigned, while its counterpart: the northern region was always summer. The western region was full of rivers and waterfalls, perfect for fishing enthusiasts, and also the richest region of all, because of its fresh water source. Finally the eastern region was completely abandoned, a perfect setting for murder or macabre rituals, with abandoned and destroyed houses. No one from Yekun knows anything beyond these paths.

The sky becomes dark with a few stars in specific spots, forming the perfect contrast, the moon makes everything just a painting of nature, when night falls, colorful glowing fireflies circle the grassy field, giant silver wolves begin to howl, and some small animals hide in the treetops or dig small houses underground, like the ter'knon mole.

It was late at night, and the children were each sent to their rooms. Max and Sophie had been working out the rest of the plan for some time, hidden in a makeshift tent of sheets, when the Madre appears, undoes everything and sends everyone to their room.

Max watches the moon through the window as he lies in bed, it always enchanted him, now he was too excited to sleep, just wondering what the world was like outside.
