44 CHAPTER 44: A KID WILL STILL BE A KID (2)

                                                      EXCAFOL DITORRIA POV:

"My lord, may I please?"

"Oh Sir Excafol, of course. Andre, a chair please." Andre brings me a chair. We are sitting on the second-floor balcony where everything happened one week ago.

"To think that I was played so skillfully. It is true that I am not the wisest man yet but I had hoped I couldn't fall low-level tricks like that anymore." Lord Demether must be talking about Kalok. "Kalok was sent here by the king. I, myself, was surprised to find him here. And Borgas's suggestion that slides just when I was complimenting Rose for her skills as a teacher... I couldn't even refuse. This makes me so mad. I talked too much because I thought I was in a friendly environment for once and it all backfired. Even outside the palace, I can't be free of responsibilities, it seems."

He is looking at the first floor with the face of a diseased man. When I look, I see Romas and Lanuvel, Romas is consoling her as she is crying. She is just like her mom. A kind person. Perhaps too kind for this world, for the world of nobles.

"Lord Demether, I have come to enquire you about something?"

"The evasion of Kevin, I presume."

"So you knew then." I did feel like he was aware of my presence at that time.

"Andre told me you were in the room. Your illusion script was quite good. Even with my artifact, I couldn't see you." And yet, his butler could. He must be very talented and powerful. I don't know a lot of people with such talents. Perhaps an assassin.

I look at Andre but he just closes his eyes while nodding slightly.

"I merely did a deduction based on the fact that the room temperature was a bit hotter than it should and everybody had entered the room previously except you." You can measure the room's temperature?! That's some crazy guy we have here.

"Hm-mhm. Since you know already, it will be easier. I will help him escape. You will send him to the forest behind the mansion right? Then I will meet him there and bring him to Titanium. I still have friends there. So, we should be good for a while, until he can take care of himself."

"As you may know, he said he didn't want anyone to be more involved than necessary."

"Why should I listen to a brat who can't even change his own diapers?" We both laugh a little when I said that.

"You should prepare tonight then. My father will be here tomorrow so, he will most likely be executed the same day. And Excafol…" Lord Demether takes both my hands and holds them, then he looks at me with tearful eyes. "Thank you, I will make sure to pay you back one day."

***

That night, I went to Kevin's room under the pretense of needing some changes of clothes for him, the guards let me enter without much trouble since I gave them a little something. Entering his room, I found a dagger on his table, but nothing more. He was wearing nothing but the clothes given by the order.

Truly a kid who knew nothing of the world. Just in case, I look under his bed and there, I see a bag. A big one. When I try to take it, it moves but it is heavy. Placing it on the bed, I open it and inside: wellis. So many gold coins I can't count them. Could it be that this kid was not lying about having 12.000.000 wellis? If so, our situation might just change completely. But first, we will have to get out of Floras.

Titanium really is the best place we can go to. I take the bag and dagger and runs to my house. I take only the most valuable and most necessary thing. While I am taking books and researches, I see the black book I promised to give to him. But, I can't read most of it. Oh well, he can read it so I might as well. I put it in my bag then I use the alternative space bracelet I have and stock everything inside. I can't be carrying around 12 million wellis at my age.

***

The next day, after sleeping a little bit, I go out of the city and then circle around it to reach the forest. I enter the forest and walk until nightfall. I use a script to create a barrier and a warm space then I sleep. There was a group of gragoras nearby but they didn't try to come near. Or maybe they are waiting for my barrier to fade.

The next day, when I wake up, the sun is up high and the gragoras are still there. So they were actually waiting. When I was about to use a fire script to send them away. They all stand up, looking towards the east. Then they fled. The ground starts shaking like crazy, making me fall down.

When I look up, I see a red light going towards the sky, piercing the clouds and continuing even beyond, like I can't be stopped by anything.

"What was that?" That light looks like lightning. Red lightning? I have never heard of a script doing something like that. I start thinking of the worst. Maybe that kid found a lost artifact there and activated it without knowing. I must hurry. Using the script aerial acceleration to fly. I rush towards the direction of that light.

Even so, it takes me two hours to reach the place. There, I find a crater. It is so big I can't even imagine what happened here. But I see nobody around. Was the kid vaporized? No, maybe he was not here, to begin with. I start searching but I don't see him anywhere. After another hour, my reserve is depleted so I land on a tree and rest. Where could he be? I can't exactly scream his name here. I rest for four hours and when I start flying again, the night is already here. And the soldiers as well.

They have reached the crater while I was resting, I suppose. This is a race against time, I must find him before them. I look and look when suddenly, among the darkness, I see something moving, trying to evade the barrage of soldiers moving forward. I come down to look closely and I recognize the little bastard. But he is trapped and decided to crouch. Or not, he stands up suddenly. Is he really thinking of fighting? I land near him and hold him from behind but he smacks me with something.

"Calm down it's me." This kid is really just a kid!
