Survive or Die

Leo suddenly opened his eyes groggily and looked around. As soon as everything started to get clearer in his eyes his heart started to fluctuate wildly, as he saw that he was no longer on the clean and proper streets of downtown Houston. He had been on his way home from his job when suddenly a bright light shone on him and everyone around him and then… darkness. Now what was in front of him was a meadow in front of him and a small mountain ran behind him.

Leo quickly got onto his feet and started to yell out,"Hello!? Is anyone there!?" He was starting to get worried, what had happened? Why was he in this new place, why was this happening to him! However before Leo could even get a bearing on his new situation he heard a voice that was crystal clear in his head speak to him.

[Welcome Lord Leo]

[This world is not your own, but you must survive in it just like your previous world. This worlds last residents were wiped out by the bestial waves and thus your planet was chosen as its next inhabitants]

Leo's mouth was agape as the voice continued speaking, clueless as to how this was even happening. There was no scientific way to explain it, this was simply too complex a subject for someone like him to even start to comprehend.

[This world is not like your own, as in this world every person is given a territory to rule over from the beginning, which they must either 1. Defend from the bestial waves, 2. Give up and be subordinate to another lord, 3. Fight other lords to increase their own lands and power, and 4. Ally with other lords against the waves and certain TITANICS]

Leo was listening when he heard that word, TITANICS. This could only be another way to say boss monster, however it was just called something different here. Leo was about to ask a question to the voice in his head but the voice continued talking without stopping, shutting him up as he continued to listen.

[Your first territory has currently 50 units of land of which to build upon. Land can be expanded through conquering other lords, certain quests, and land deeds obtained from treasure chests. Treasure chests occur after killing a monster or by finding them in the wild by chance. Quests are given by natives that you convert or buy to your cause, and can be used in a variety of ways depending on the request.]

Leo started to see that only pure strength and intellect would make it in this world. Either he got stronger and smarter extremely quickly or he perished here all by himself. Leo was average height and weight and he had no fighting experience to speak of, so his chances of survival were starting to get slimmer and slimmer the more he learned about this world.

[Every human that has descended upon this world unlocks an innate talent that will always be active and usable once the system evaluates your attributes.]

[System scanning Lord Leo's Attributes now… 1%.. 2%..]

Suddenly Leo got very stiff and it felt like he was being looked over by hundreds of people at the same time. It felt like people were touching his body and if he wasn't mistaken he swore he could sense people whispering in some odd language. This went on for nearly a minute before the feeling stopped and the voice continued to speak within his mind.

[Attributes scanned. Lord Leo has only one good attribute: Luck]

Leo didn't know whether he should be offended or not, but deciding maybe it would be better not to piss off the immortal god who brought him here he just shut his mouth and waited for the results.

[Lord Leo has gained Innate Skill, Midas Touch. Effect of skill: Passive, when opening a chest Lord Leo will always gain a 100 times reward. When fighting a monster, if hit in a weak point, Lord Leo will be 100 times more likely to hit a critical strike. When recruiting using a special building Lord Leo will have a 100 times better chance to unlock better units. Lastly, When completing quests, Lord Leo will be given 100 times the reward. There are other uses but Lord Leo must figure them out on his own.]

Leo sucked in a quick breath as he heard all the effects this skill had. He suddenly started to think that surviving here wouldn't be so bad at all, 100 times the effect on everything he touched was a godsend to anybody!

[Lord Leo will now receive a 'New Lord Welcoming Wood Chest' to help him get started]

Leo then saw a wooden chest materialize a few feet away from him, and he wondered if his bonus would affect this chest as well? Then Leo heard a different voice from the one he had been hearing this entire time.

[World notification: Welcome All Lords! Your only goal in this world is to survive, no one will stop you from doing what you want, as long as you survive. The Market System is now open. The Global Chat, Regional Chat, Alliance Chat, and Familial Chat is now open. Survive and thrive, Lords of the new world!]

Leo wondered how to activate this chat function, so he tried it, saying,"Global chat?" in a questioning voice. Instantly a holographic screen was opened in front of him, where 2.3 million people were asking what was going on, and the number that showed on the side only continued to get bigger as more people figured out how to open the chat option.

Leo couldn't read anything as the chat was moving too fast so he tried,"close global chat, open familial chat" and instantly the global chat closed and another chat opened up, to which only 2 other people were currently talking frantically in it. Leo instantly recognized them as his uncle Arthur and his mom. Leo quickly said,"Mom, I am safe, do you know if Kyle or Jasmin are safe?"

After he said this, the words were instantly typed out and sent into the chat. Very quickly after he sent the message he got another back from his mom and Arthur.

[Mom: Oh Leo! Thank god you're safe! I've been so worried for a while now! I haven't heard anything from your brother or sister yet, I can only hope for now that they are alright and that they will figure out the chat function quickly]

[Arthur: Luckily Rosy was with me when the light descended so her and I's land is sitting only a mile or so apart. We're both fine but I haven't heard anything from the other members from our family.]

[Leo: Did you guys open your new lord's chest yet?]

Before Leo opened his chest he wanted to see if it was the same for everyone or if he might get lucky and his skill would work on this chest as well.

[Arthur: Yes, I got 7 units of corroded water, 14 units of old bread and a spear that is glowing a faint white. I asked the system out loud what the white color represents and it told me that the color represents its grade. Apparently the white grade is common.]

[Mom: Yes, Arthur is correct, I got all the same things]

Suddenly as Leo was reading the messages another three people joined the chat.

[Kyle: I read the messages, I am fine mother, as for Jasmin she is fine as well, we were together as the library when we were transported so our lands our not far from each other]

[Rosy: Arthur my love, I can hear you from across the river, I am fine]

[Jasmin: I also opened my chest and got the same few items as uncle Arthur]

Leo now had three confirmations that he should get the same items as everyone else. So he went over and opened his chest and immediately the same voice rang out in his head.

[Lord Leo has opened his new lord chest and gained 7 units of corroded water, 14 units of old bread and a white grade spear.]

As Leo was about to sulk that he didn't get his bonus the voice suddenly rang out again.

[Lord Leo's Innate Skill has activated and the items have transformed into 70 units of purified water, 140 units of fresh bread and a blue grade spear]

[Congratulations Lord Leo for opening a chest and gain the "Shark Tooth Spear", you may now cast water elemental magic using it]

Leo smiled and then curiously said,"System, how do I store food?" and the voice responded to him.

[Lord Leo has an inventory that can hold up to 10 items up to a stack of 10.000, however after that the Lord will need to build storage areas]

Leo then said out loud,"Inventory!" and yet another hologram appeared before him, showing ten slots just as the system had told him. He pointed at all the food and water and said,"How do I do this..? Is it just store Items?"

As if they were never there the food and water disappeared from the ground and appeared as [Purified Water - 70x] and [Fresh Bread - 140x] in his inventory. He smiled in satisfaction and then went and picked up the Shark tooth spear from the ground as well. He held it in his hands and even though Leo had never picked up a weapon in his entire life, he could somehow feel that this spear was powerful. Leo then said,"System, can you please tell me how the weapon grading system works?"

[Weapons are graded based on the magic stored within them, and how versatile they are in battle. For instance, white graded weapons hold no elemental energy, so they do not boost or help the lords in any way. Meanwhile the green graded weapons of one rank higher hold a small amount, which helps with speed, power, or other attributes. From blue graded and on, the wielder may start using the elemental energy inside the weapon as a form of attack.]

Leo nodded his head in acknowledgment and then asked,"Can you list all the grades in order, please?"

[The Grades are as follows:

Normal - White grade

Uncommon - Green Grade

Rare - Blue Grade

Super Rare - Orange grade

Epic - Purple grade

Legendary - Yellow grade

Ancient - Red grade]

[Most Lords antiquated the grades as 10 white grade weapons equal 1 green grade weapon, 10 green grade weapons equal 1 rare grade and so on]

Once again Leo sucked in a sharp breath realizing that as long as he found a chest with an epic grade item he would always get an ancient grade weapon. He would truly be an overbearing and overgeared main character like the manga he always read when he was bored.

Leo looked back to the chat to see his family had gained a couple more people but decided to ignore it for now, as he asked,"System, do I have any current quests to complete?"

[Lord Leo has the introductory quest called "Beginning of blood' to complete]

[Beginning of Blood mission details: There are two wolves stalking you just outside your territory, waiting for you to cluelessly walk out and ambush you. Slay both of these wolves to gain a wooden chest and your first free building, the "Recruitment building".]

Leo looked out from where he was standing across the meadow and squinted as he looked to see where the wolves were. Then he spotted a quick movement in between a few trees and realized that was likely the wolves he hadn't noticed before. Leo got up and tried to calm himself before he headed out to see about taking down the wolves. He had never killed anything other than some flies in his house before and now he was expected to take down two fully grown wolves?

Leo steeled himself and walked forwards toward the trees with his shark tooth spear in hand, determined to survive.
